Singing Voice Conversion with Accompaniment Using Self-Supervised Representation-Based Melody FeaturesabstractMelody preservation is crucial in singing voice conversion (SVC). However, in many scenarios, audio is often accompanied with background music (BGM), which can cause audio distortion and interfere with the extraction of melody and other key features, significantly degrading SVC performance. Previous methods have attempted to address this by using more robust neural network-based melody extractors, but their performance drops sharply in the presence of complex accompaniment. Other approaches involve performing source separation before conversion, but this often introduces noticeable artifacts, leading to a significant drop in conversion quality and increasing the user’s operational costs. To address these issues, we introduce a novel SVC method that uses self-supervised representation-based melody features to improve melody modeling accuracy in the presence of BGM. In our experiments, we compare the effectiveness of different self-supervised learning (SSL) models for melody extraction and explore for the first time how SSL benefits the task of melody extraction. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed SVC model significantly outperforms existing baseline methods in terms of melody accuracy and shows higher similarity and naturalness in both subjective and objective evaluations across noisy and clean audio environments. | 2025 | AutoStyle-TTS: Retrieval-Augmented Generation based Automatic Style Matching Text-to-Speech SynthesisabstractWith the advancement of speech synthesis technology, users have higher expectations for the naturalness and expressiveness of synthesized speech. But previous research ignores the importance of prompt selection. This study proposes a text-to-speech (TTS) framework based on Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technology, which can dynamically adjust the speech style according to the text content to achieve more natural and vivid communication effects. We have constructed a speech style knowledge database containing high-quality speech samples in various contexts and developed a style matching scheme. This scheme uses embeddings, extracted by Llama, PER-LLM-Embedder, and Moka, to match with samples in the knowledge database, selecting the most appropriate speech style for synthesis. Furthermore, our empirical research validates the effectiveness of the proposed method. | 2025 | Disentangling Before Composing: Learning Invariant Disentangled Features for Compositional Zero-Shot LearningabstractCompositional Zero-Shot Learning (CZSL) aims to recognize novel compositions using knowledge learned from seen attribute-object compositions in the training set. Previous works mainly project an image and its corresponding composition into a common embedding space to measure their compatibility score. However, both attributes and objects share the visual representations learned above, leading the model to exploit spurious correlations and bias towards seen compositions. Instead, we reconsider CZSL as an out-of-distribution generalization problem. If an object is treated as a domain, we can learn object-invariant features to recognize attributes attached to any object reliably, and vice versa. Specifically, we propose an invariant feature learning framework to align different domains at the representation and gradient levels to capture the intrinsic characteristics associated with the tasks. To further facilitate and encourage the disentanglement of attributes and objects, we propose an "encoding-reshuffling-decoding" process to help the model avoid spurious correlations by randomly regrouping the disentangled features into synthetic features. Ultimately, our method improves generalization by learning to disentangle features that represent two independent factors of attributes and objects. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed method achieves state-of-the-art or competitive performance in both closed-world and open-world scenarios. | 2024 | Dual-Prior Augmented Decoding Network for Long Tail Distribution in HOI DetectionabstractHuman object interaction detection aims at localizing human-object pairs and recognizing their interactions. Trapped by the long-tailed distribution of the data, existing HOI detection methods often have difficulty recognizing the tail categories. Many approaches try to improve the recognition of HOI tasks by utilizing external knowledge (e.g. pre-trained visual-language models). However, these approaches mainly utilize external knowledge at the HOI combination level and achieve limited improvement in the tail categories. In this paper, we propose a dual-prior augmented decoding network by decomposing the HOI task into two sub-tasks: human-object pair detection and interaction recognition. For each subtask, we leverage external knowledge to enhance the model's ability at a finer granularity. Specifically, we acquire the prior candidates from an external classifier and embed them to assist the subsequent decoding process. Thus, the long-tail problem is mitigated from a coarse-to-fine level with the corresponding external knowledge. Our approach outperforms existing state-of-the-art models in various settings and significantly boosts the performance on the tail HOI categories. | 2024 | Automatic Channel Selection and Spatial Feature Integration for Multi-Channel Speech Recognition Across Various Array TopologiesabstractAutomatic Speech Recognition (ASR) has shown remarkable progress, yet it still faces challenges in real-world distant scenarios across various array topologies each with multiple recording devices. The focal point of the CHiME-7 Distant ASR task is to devise a unified system capable of generalizing various array topologies that have multiple recording devices and offering reliable recognition performance in real-world environments. Addressing this task, we introduce an ASR system that demonstrates exceptional performance across various array topologies. First of all, we propose two attention-based automatic channel selection modules to select the most advantageous subset of multi-channel signals from multiple recording devices for each utterance. Furthermore, we introduce inter-channel spatial features to augment the effectiveness of multiframe cross-channel attention, aiding it in improving the capability of spatial information awareness. Finally, we propose a multi-layer convolution fusion module drawing inspiration from the U-Net architecture to integrate the multi-channel output into a single-channel output. Experimental results on the CHiME-7 corpus with oracle segmentation demonstrate that the improvements introduced in our proposed ASR system lead to a relative reduction of 40.1% in the Macro Diarization Attributed Word Error Rates (DA-WER) when compared to the baseline ASR system on the Eval sets. | 2023 | Attribute Learning with Knowledge Enhanced Partial AnnotationsabstractUnder limited annotation cost, large-scale attribute learning datasets only contain partial labels for each image. The conventional methods treat the un-annotated attributes as negative or ignore their loss without considering the associated knowledge. In this paper, we present a knowledge enhanced selective loss for partially labeled attribute learning. Given a visual instance, we investigate the object-attribute co-occurrence as internal knowledge to subdivide the unannotated attributes into feasible and infeasible sets. Based on that, we can enhance the model to focus on the learning of feasible un-annotated attributes and remove the distraction from the infeasible ones. Besides the internal knowledge, we adopt external knowledge to excavate the unseen object-attribute pairs. Experimental results show that our proposed loss can achieve state-of-the-art performance on the newly cleaned VAW2 dataset that contains 170,407 instances, 1763 objects, and 591 attributes. | 2022 | FGraDA: A Dataset and Benchmark for Fine-Grained Domain Adaptation in Machine TranslationabstractPrevious research for adapting a general neural machine translation (NMT) model into a specific domain usually neglects the diversity in translation within the same domain, which is a core problem for domain adaptation in real-world scenarios. One representative of such challenging scenarios is to deploy a translation system for a conference with a specific topic, e.g., global warming or coronavirus, where there are usually extremely less resources due to the limited schedule. To motivate wider investigation in such a scenario, we present a real-world fine-grained domain adaptation task in machine translation (FGraDA). The FGraDA dataset consists of Chinese-English translation task for four sub-domains of information technology: autonomous vehicles, AI education, real-time networks, and smart phone. Each sub-domain is equipped with a development set and test set for evaluation purposes. To be closer to reality, FGraDA does not employ any in-domain bilingual training data but provides bilingual dictionaries and wiki knowledge base, which can be easier obtained within a short time. We benchmark the fine-grained domain adaptation task and present in-depth analyses showing that there are still challenging problems to further improve the performance with heterogeneous resources. | 2021 | Inferring Emotion from Large-scale Internet Voice Data: A Semi-supervised Curriculum Augmentation based Deep Learning ApproachabstractEffective emotion inference from user queries helps to give a more personified response for Voice Dialogue Applications(VDAs). The tremendous amounts of VDA users bring in diverse emotion expressions. How to achieve a high emotion inferring performance from large-scale Internet Voice Data in VDAs? Traditionally, researches on speech emotion recognition are based on acted voice datasets, which have limited speakers but strong and clear emotion expressions. Inspired by this, in this paper, we propose a novel approach to leverage acted voice data with strong emotion expressions to enhance large-scale unlabeled internet voice data with diverse emotion expressions for emotion inferring. Specifically, we propose a novel semi-supervised multi-modal curriculum augmentation deep learning framework. First, to learn more general emotion cues, we adopt a curriculum learning based epoch-wise training strategy, which trains our model guided by strong and balanced emotion samples from acted voice data and sub-sequently leverages weak and unbalanced emotion samples from internet voice data.Second, to employ more diverse emotion expressions, we design a Multi-path Mix-match Multimodal Deep Neural Network(MMMD), which effectively learns feature representations for multiple modalities and trains labeled and unlabeled data in hybrid semi-supervised methods for superior generalization and robustness. Experiments on an internet voice dataset with 500,000 utterances show our method outperforms (+10.09% in terms of F1) several alternative baselines, while an acted corpus with 2,397 utterances contributes 4.35%. To further compare our method with state-of-the-art techniques in traditionally acted voice datasets, we also conduct experiments on public dataset IEMOCAP. The results reveal the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Suping Zhou, Jia Jia 0001, Zhiyong Wu 0001, Wei Chen 0071, Shuo Huang 0005, Jialie Shen 0001

Densely Connected Multi-Stage Model with Channel Wise Subband Feature for Real-Time Speech EnhancementabstractResearch on single channel speech enhancement (SE) has a long tradition, but two main practical problems still remain unsolved. Firstly, it’s hard to balance between enhancement quality and computational efficiency, and low-latency always brings loss of quality. Secondly, enhancement in specific scenarios, such as singing and emotional speech, is also an intricate problem of conventional methods. In this paper, we propose a computationally efficient real-time speech enhancement network with densely connected multi-stage structures, which progressively enhances the channel-wise subband speech. The enhanced speech from earlier stage is used to guide the processing of deeper stage in order to obtain coarse to fine estimations. Besides, supervision is applied to all intermediate results in order to stabilize training and accelerate convergence. Moreover, an adaptive fine-tune step is utilized with some small datasets of specific scenarios, which achieves superb improvement under corresponding scenes. As a result, the proposed method achieves promising performance improvements in terms of speech quality and demonstrates robustness in complex scenarios. We submitt the proposed method to the deep noise suppression (DNS) challenge 2021, real-time denoising track, which was held by Microsoft. In the subjective evaluation, our system outperforms DNS-Challenge baseline by 0.14 points in terms of mean opinion score (MOS). | 2021 | Multi-Band Melgan: Faster Waveform Generation For High-Quality Text-To-SpeechabstractIn this paper, we propose multi-band MelGAN, a much faster waveform generation model targeting to high-quality text-to-speech. Specifically, we improve the original MelGAN by the following aspects. First, we increase the receptive field of the generator, which is proven to be beneficial to speech generation. Second, we substitute the feature matching loss with the multi-resolution STFT loss to better measure the difference between fake and real speech. Together with pre-training, this improvement leads to both better quality and better training stability. More importantly, we extend MelGAN with multi-band processing: the generator takes mel-spectrograms as input and produces sub-band signals which are subsequently summed back to full-band signals as discriminator input. The proposed multi-band MelGAN has achieved high MOS of 4.34 and 4.22 in waveform generation and TTS, respectively. With only 1.91M parameters, our model effectively reduces the total computational complexity of the original MelGAN from 5.85 to 0.95 GFLOPS. Our Pytorch implementation can achieve a real-time factor of 0.03 on CPU without hardware specific optimization. Shan Yang 0001, Kai Liu 0053, Wei Chen 0071, Lei Xie 0001

Learning Contextualized Sentence Representations for Document-Level Neural Machine TranslationabstractDocument-level machine translation incorporates inter-sentential dependencies into the translation of a source sentence. In this paper, we propose a new framework to model cross-sentence dependencies by training neural machine translation (NMT) to predict both the target translation and surrounding sentences of a source sentence. By enforcing the NMT model to predict source context, we want the model to learn source sentence representations that capture document-level dependencies on the source side. We further propose two different methods to learn and integrate such contextualized sentence embeddings into NMT: a joint training method that jointly trains an NMT model with the source context prediction model and a pre-training & fine-tuning method that pretrains the source context prediction model on a large-scale monolingual document corpus and then fine-tunes it with the NMT model. Experiments on Chinese-English and English-German translation show that both methods can substantially improve the translation quality over a strong document-level Transformer baseline. | 2020 | ChoreoNet: Towards Music to Dance Synthesis with Choreographic Action UnitabstractDance and music are two highly correlated artistic forms. Synthesizing dance motions has attracted much attention recently. Most previous works conduct music-to-dance synthesis via directly music to human skeleton keypoints mapping. Meanwhile, human choreographers design dance motions from music in a two-stage manner: they firstly devise multiple choreographic dance units (CAUs), each with a series of dance motions, and then arrange the CAU sequence according to the rhythm, melody and emotion of the music. Inspired by these, we systematically study such two-stage choreography approach and construct a dataset to incorporate such choreography knowledge. Based on the constructed dataset, we design a two-stage music-to-dance synthesis framework ChoreoNet to imitate human choreography procedure. Our framework firstly devises a CAU prediction model to learn the mapping relationship between music and CAU sequences. Afterwards, we devise a spatial-temporal inpainting model to convert the CAU sequence into continuous dance motions. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed ChoreoNet outperforms baseline methods (0.622 in terms of CAU BLEU score and 1.59 in terms of user study score). | 2019 | Modality Attention for End-to-end Audio-visual Speech RecognitionabstractAudio-visual speech recognition (AVSR) system is thought to be one of the most promising solutions for robust speech recognition, especially in noisy environment. In this paper, we propose a novel multimodal attention based method for audio-visual speech recognition which could automatically learn the fused representation from both modalities based on their importance. Our method is realized using state-of-the-art sequence-to-sequence (Seq2seq) architectures. Experimental results show that relative improvements from 2% up to 36% over the auditory modality alone are obtained depending on the different signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR). Compared to the traditional feature concatenation methods, our proposed approach can achieve better recognition performance under both clean and noisy conditions. We believe modality attention based end-to-end method can be easily generalized to other multimodal tasks with correlated information. Wei Chen 0071, Jia Jia 0001

Inferring Emotions From Large-Scale Internet Voice DataabstractAs voice dialog applications (VDAs, e.g., Siri,11http://www.apple.com/ios/siri/. Cortana,22http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/mobile/campaign-cortana/. Google Now33http://www.google.com/landing/now/.) are increasing in popularity, inferring emotions from the large-scale internet voice data generated from VDAs can help give a more reasonable and humane response. However, the tremendous amounts of users in large-scale internet voice data lead to a great diversity of users accents and expression patterns. Therefore, the traditional speech emotion recognition methods, which mainly target acted corpora, cannot effectively handle the massive and diverse amount of internet voice data. To address this issue, we carry out a series of observations, find suitable emotion categories for large-scale internet voice data, and verify the indicators of the social attributes (query time, query topic, and users location) and emotion inferring. Based on our observations, two different strategies are employed to solve the problem. First, a deep sparse neural network model that uses acoustic information, textual information, and three indicators (a temporal indicator, descriptive indicator, and geo-social indicator) as the input is proposed. Then, to capture the contextual information, we propose a hybrid emotion inference model that includes long short-term memory to capture the acoustic features and a latent dirichlet allocation to extract text features. Experiments on 93 000 utterances collected from the Sogou Voice Assistant44http://yy.sogou.com. (Chinese Siri) validate the effectiveness of the proposed methodologies. Furthermore, we compare the two methodologies and give their advantages and disadvantages. Jia Jia 0001, Suping Zhou, Yufeng Yin 0002, Boya Wu, Wei Chen 0071

Inferring User Emotive State Changes in Realistic Human-Computer Conversational DialogsabstractHuman-computer conversational interactions are increasingly pervasive in real-world applications, such as chatbots and virtual assistants. The user experience can be enhanced through affective design of such conversational dialogs, especially in enabling the computer to understand the emotive state in the user's input, and to generate an appropriate system response within the dialog turn. Such a system response may further influence the user's emotive state in the subsequent dialog turn. In this paper, we focus on the change in the user's emotive states in adjacent dialog turns, to which we refer as user emotive state change. We propose a multi-modal, multi-task deep learning framework to infer the user's emotive states and emotive state changes simultaneously. Multi-task learning convolution fusion auto-encoder is applied to fuse the acoustic and textual features to generate a robust representation of the user's input. Long-short term memory recurrent auto-encoder is employed to extract features of system responses at the sentence-level to better capture factors affecting user emotive states. Multi-task learned structured output layer is adopted to model the dependency of user emotive state change, conditioned upon the user input's emotive states and system response in current dialog turn. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Runnan Li, Zhiyong Wu 0001, Jia Jia 0001, Jingbei Li, Wei Chen 0071, Helen M. Meng
