| 2026 | SegDINO3D: 3D Instance Segmentation Empowered by Both Image-Level and Object-Level 2D FeaturesabstractIn this paper, we present SegDINO3D, a novel Transformer encoder-decoder framework for 3D instance segmentation. As 3D training data is generally not as sufficient as 2D training images, SegDINO3D is designed to fully leverage 2D representation from a pre-trained 2D detection model, including both image-level and object-level features, for improving 3D representation. SegDINO3D takes both a point cloud and its associated 2D images as input. In the encoder stage, it first enriches each 3D point by retrieving 2D image features from its corresponding image views and then leverages a 3D encoder for 3D context fusion. In the decoder stage, it formulates 3D object queries as 3D anchor boxes and performs cross-attention from 3D queries to 2D object queries obtained from 2D images using the 2D detection model. These 2D object queries serve as a compact object-level representation of 2D images, effectively avoiding the challenge of keeping thousands of image feature maps in the memory while faithfully preserving the knowledge of the pre-trained 2D model. The introducing of 3D box queries also enables the model to modulate cross-attention using the predicted boxes for more precise querying. SegDINO3D achieves the state-of-the-art performance on the ScanNetV2 and ScanNet200 3D instance segmentation benchmarks. Notably, on the challenging ScanNet200 dataset, SegDINO3D significantly outperforms prior methods by +8.7 and +6.8 mAP on the validation and hidden test sets, respectively, demonstrating its superiority. | 2026 | Simulating the Real World: A Unified Survey of Multimodal Generative ModelsabstractUnderstanding and replicating the real world is a critical challenge in Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) research. To achieve this, many existing approaches, such as world models, aim to capture the fundamental principles governing the physical world, enabling more accurate simulations and meaningful interactions. However, current methods often treat different modalities, including 2D (images), videos, 3D, and 4D representations, as independent domains, overlooking their interdependencies. Additionally, these methods typically focus on isolated dimensions of reality without systematically integrating their connections. In this survey, we present a unified survey for multimodal generative models that investigate the progression of data dimensionality in real-world simulation. Specifically, this survey starts from 2D generation (appearance), then moves to video (appearance+dynamics) and 3D generation (appearance+ geometry), and finally culminates in 4D generation that integrate all dimensions. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to systematically unify the study of 2D, video, 3D, and 4D generation within a single framework. To guide future research, we provide a comprehensive review of datasets, evaluation metrics, and future directions to foster insights for newcomers. This survey serves as a bridge to advance the study of multimodal generative models and real-world simulation within a unified framework. | 2026 | One-shot Face Sketch Synthesis in-the-Wild via Generative Diffusion Prior and Instruction TuningabstractFace sketch synthesis is a technique aimed at converting face photos into sketches. Existing face sketch synthesis research mainly relies on training with numerous photo–sketch sample pairs from existing datasets. However, these large-scale discriminative learning methods will have to face problems, such as data scarcity and high human labor costs. Once the training data become scarce, their generative performance significantly degrades. In this article, we propose a one-shot face sketch synthesis method based on diffusion models. We optimize text instructions on a diffusion model using face photo–sketch image pairs. Then, the instructions derived through gradient-based optimization are used for inference. To simulate real-world scenarios more accurately and evaluate method effectiveness more comprehensively, we introduce a new benchmark named One-shot Face Sketch Dataset (OS-Sketch). The benchmark consists of 400 pairs of face photo–sketch images, including sketches with different styles and photos with different backgrounds, ages, sexes, expressions, illumination, and so on. For a solid out-of-distribution evaluation, we select only one pair of images for training at each time, with the rest used for inference. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed method can convert various photos into realistic and highly consistent sketches in a one-shot context. Compared to other methods, our approach offers greater convenience and broader applicability. The dataset will be available at: https://github.com/HanWu3125/OS-Sketch . | 2025 | CoCoCo: Improving Text-Guided Video Inpainting for Better Consistency, Controllability and CompatibilityabstractVideo inpainting is a crucial task with diverse applications, including fine-grained video editing, video recovery, and video dewatermarking. However, most existing video inpainting methods primarily focus on visual content completion while neglecting text information. There are only a limited number of text-guided video inpainting techniques, and these techniques struggle with maintaining visual quality and exhibit poor semantic representation capabilities. In this paper, we introduce CoCoCo, a text-guided video inpainting diffusion framework. To address the aforementioned challenges, we enhance both the training data and model structure. Specifically, we devise an instance-aware region selection strategy for masked area sampling and develop a novel motion block that incorporates efficient 3D full attention and textual cross attention. Additionally, our CoCoCo framework can be seamlessly integrated with various personalized text-to-image diffusion models through a delicate training-free transfer mechanism. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that CoCoCo can create high-quality visual content with enhanced temporal consistency, improved text controllability, and better compatibility with personalized image models. | 2025 | Koala-36M: A Large-scale Video Dataset Improving Consistency between Fine-grained Conditions and Video ContentabstractWith the continuous progress of visual generation technologies, the scale of video datasets has grown exponentially. The quality of these datasets plays a pivotal role in the performance of video generation models. We assert that temporal splitting, detailed captions, and video quality filtering are three crucial determinants of dataset quality. However, existing datasets exhibit various limitations in these areas. To address these challenges, we introduce Koala-36M, a large-scale, high-quality video dataset featuring accurate temporal splitting, detailed captions, and superior video quality. The essence of our approach lies in improving the consistency between fine-grained conditions and video content. Specifically, we employ a linear classifier on probability distributions to enhance the accuracy of transition detection, ensuring better temporal consistency. We then provide structured captions for the splitted videos, with an average length of 200 words, to improve text-video alignment. Additionally, we develop a Video Training Suitability Score (VTSS) that integrates multiple sub-metrics, allowing us to filter high-quality videos from the original corpus. Finally, we incorporate several metrics into the training process of the generation model, further refining the fine-grained conditions. Our experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our data processing pipeline and the quality of the proposed Koala-36M dataset. | 2025 | Imbalance in Balance: Online Concept Balancing in Generation ModelsabstractIn visual generation tasks, the responses and combinations of complex concepts often lack stability and are error-prone, which remains an under-explored area. In this paper, we attempt to explore the causal factors for poor concept responses through elaborately designed experiments. We also design a concept-wise equalization loss function (IMBA loss) to address this issue. Our proposed method is online, eliminating the need for offline dataset processing, and requires minimal code changes. In our newly proposed complex concept benchmark Inert-CompBench and two other public test sets, our method significantly enhances the concept response capability of baseline models and yields highly competitive results with only a few codes released at https://github.com/KwaiVGI/IMBA-Loss. | 2025 | CrossFuse: Learning Infrared and Visible Image Fusion by Cross-Sensor Top-K Vision Alignment and BeyondabstractInfrared and visible image fusion (IVIF) is increasingly applied in critical fields such as video surveillance and autonomous driving systems. Significant progress has been made in deep learning-based fusion methods. However, these models frequently encounter out-of-distribution (OOD) scenes in real-world applications, which severely impact their performance and reliability. Therefore, addressing the challenge of OOD data is crucial for the safe deployment of these models in open-world environments. Unlike existing research, our focus is on the challenges posed by OOD data in real-world applications and on enhancing the robustness and generalization of models. In this paper, we propose an infrared-visible fusion framework based on Multi-View Augmentation. For external data augmentation, Top-k Selective Vision Alignment is employed to mitigate distribution shifts between datasets by performing RGB-wise transformations on visible images. This strategy effectively introduces augmented samples, enhancing the adaptability of the model to complex real-world scenarios. Additionally, for internal data augmentation, self-supervised learning is established using Weak-Aggressive Augmentation. This enables the model to learn more robust and general feature representations during the fusion process, thereby improving robustness and generalization. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed method exhibits superior performance and robustness across various conditions and environments. Our approach significantly enhances the reliability and stability of IVIF tasks in practical applications. Yukai Shi, Cidan Shi, Zhipeng Weng, Yin Tian, Xiaoyu Xian, Liang Lin 0004 |

| 2025 | Rethinking Generalizable Infrared Small Target Detection: A Real-Scene Benchmark and Cross-View Representation LearningabstractInfrared small target detection (ISTD) is highly sensitive to sensor type, observation conditions, and the intrinsic properties of the target. These factors can introduce substantial variations in the distribution of acquired infrared image data, a phenomenon known as domain shift. Such distribution discrepancies significantly hinder the generalization capability of ISTD models across diverse scenarios. To tackle this challenge, this paper introduces an ISTD framework enhanced by domain adaptation. To alleviate distribution shift between datasets and achieve cross-sample alignment, we introduce Cross-view Channel Alignment (CCA). Additionally, we propose the Cross-view Top-K Fusion strategy, which integrates target information with diverse background features, enhancing the model’s ability to extract critical data characteristics. To further mitigate the impact of noise on ISTD, we develop a Noise-guided Representation learning strategy. This approach enables the model to learn more noise-resistant feature representations, to improve its generalization capability across diverse noisy domains. Finally, we develope a dedicated infrared small target dataset, RealScene-ISTD. Compared to state-of-the-art methods, our approach demonstrates superior performance in terms of detection probability (Pd), false alarm rate (Fa), and intersection over union (IoU). | 2025 | Boosting 3D Object Detection via Self-Distilling Introspective Dataabstract3D object detection is a fundamental yet critical task for autonomous driving. In this paper, we investigate a novel self-distilling paradigm by proposing Self-distilling Introspective Data (SID) to boost the accuracy of 3D object detection in both LiDAR-based and LiDAR-Camera-based scenarios. The proposed SID significantly improves the applicability of the distillation approach since it does not require extra training data or complex teacher network design. Specifically, we first employ an introspective data augmentation method to enrich object-aware information in sparse point clouds through geometric or semantic injection. We then utilize this enhanced data to train a robust teacher model. In contrast to traditional distillation that relies on larger models to enhance the representations of smaller ones, the teacher model in SID shares the same architecture as the student model but exhibits exceptionally high discriminative ability. This enables the effective transfer of rich feature representations to the student model. Rooted on such a scheme, when conducting LiDAR-based detectors, SID significantly enhances the semantic representation capabilities of sparse point clouds. Additionally, in the LiDAR-Camera-based setting, SID also effectively supervises the fusion of the two modalities at the feature level, ensuring more reasonable cross-modal learning. Extensive experiments show the proposed SID improves a variety of detectors. For the LiDAR-based detector, the SID gains 2.31% mAP improvements for the hard objects in KITTI, while 1.76% NDS improvements on nuScenes. For the LiDAR-Camera-based detectors, the SID boosts the detection accuracy significantly, with 1.5% mAP promotion on KITTI and 2.15% NDS improvements on the nuScenes benchmark. | 2024 | NegVSR: Augmenting Negatives for Generalized Noise Modeling in Real-world Video Super-ResolutionabstractThe capability of video super-resolution (VSR) to synthesize high-resolution (HR) video from ideal datasets has been demonstrated in many works. However, applying the VSR model to real-world video with unknown and complex degradation remains a challenging task. First, existing degradation metrics in most VSR methods are not able to effectively simulate real-world noise and blur. On the contrary, simple combinations of classical degradation are used for real-world noise modeling, which led to the VSR model often being violated by out-of-distribution noise. Second, many SR models focus on noise simulation and transfer. Nevertheless, the sampled noise is monotonous and limited. To address the aforementioned problems, we propose a Negatives augmentation strategy for generalized noise modeling in Video Super-Resolution (NegVSR) task. Specifically, we first propose sequential noise generation toward real-world data to extract practical noise sequences. Then, the degeneration domain is widely expanded by negative augmentation to build up various yet challenging real-world noise sets. We further propose the augmented negative guidance loss to learn robust features among augmented negatives effectively. Extensive experiments on real-world datasets (e.g., VideoLQ and FLIR) show that our method outperforms state-of-the-art methods with clear margins, especially in visual quality. | 2024 | Structural Information Guided Multimodal Pre-training for Vehicle-Centric PerceptionabstractUnderstanding vehicles in images is important for various applications such as intelligent transportation and self-driving system. Existing vehicle-centric works typically pre-train models on large-scale classification datasets and then fine-tune them for specific downstream tasks. However, they neglect the specific characteristics of vehicle perception in different tasks and might thus lead to sub-optimal performance. To address this issue, we propose a novel vehicle-centric pre-training framework called VehicleMAE, which incorporates the structural information including the spatial structure from vehicle profile information and the semantic structure from informative high-level natural language descriptions for effective masked vehicle appearance reconstruction. To be specific, we explicitly extract the sketch lines of vehicles as a form of the spatial structure to guide vehicle reconstruction. The more comprehensive knowledge distilled from the CLIP big model based on the similarity between the paired/unpaired vehicle image-text sample is further taken into consideration to help achieve a better understanding of vehicles. A large-scale dataset is built to pre-train our model, termed Autobot1M, which contains about 1M vehicle images and 12693 text information. Extensive experiments on four vehicle-based downstream tasks fully validated the effectiveness of our VehicleMAE. | 2024 | DreamTime: An Improved Optimization Strategy for Diffusion-Guided 3D GenerationabstractText-to-image diffusion models pre-trained on billions of image-text pairs have recently enabled 3D content creation by optimizing a randomly initialized differentiable 3D representation with score distillation. However, the optimization process suffers slow convergence and the resultant 3D models often exhibit two limitations: (a) quality concerns such as missing attributes and distorted shape and texture; (b) extremely low diversity comparing to text-guided image synthesis. In this paper, we show that the conflict between the 3D optimization process and uniform timestep sampling in score distillation is the main reason for these limitations. To resolve this conflict, we propose to prioritize timestep sampling with monotonically non-increasing functions, which aligns the 3D optimization process with the sampling process of diffusion model. Extensive experiments show that our simple redesign significantly improves 3D content creation with faster convergence, better quality and diversity. | 2024 | TOSS: High-quality Text-guided Novel View Synthesis from a Single ImageabstractIn this paper, we present TOSS, which introduces text to the task of novel view synthesis (NVS) from just a single RGB image.
While Zero123 has demonstrated impressive zero-shot open-set NVS capabilities, it treats NVS as a pure image-to-image translation problem. This approach suffers from the challengingly under-constrained nature of single-view NVS: the process lacks means of explicit user control and often result in implausible NVS generations.
To address this limitation, TOSS uses text as high-level semantic information to constrain the NVS solution space.
TOSS fine-tunes text-to-image Stable Diffusion pre-trained on large-scale text-image pairs and introduces modules specifically tailored to image and camera pose conditioning, as well as dedicated training for pose correctness and preservation of fine details.
Comprehensive experiments are conducted with results showing that our proposed TOSS outperforms Zero123 with higher-quality NVS results and faster convergence. We further support these results with comprehensive ablations that underscore the effectiveness and potential of

| 2024 | Fast and Scalable Incomplete Multi-View Clustering with Duality Optimal Graph FilteringabstractIncomplete Multi-View Clustering (IMVC) is crucial for multi-media data analysis. While graph learning-based IMVC methods have shown promise, they still have limitations. The prevalent first-order affinity graph often misclassifies out-neighborhood intra-cluster and in-neighbor inter-cluster samples, worsened by data incompleteness. These inaccuracies, combined with high computational demands, restrict their suitability for large-scale IMVC tasks. To address these issues, we propose a novel Fast and Scalable IMVC with duality Optimal graph Filtering (FSIMVC-OF). Specifically, we refine the clustering-friendly structure of the bipartite graph by learning an optimal filter within a consensus clustering framework. Instead of learning a sample-side filter, we optimize an anchor-side graph filter and apply it to the anchor side, ensuring computational efficiency with linear complexity, supported by the provable equivalence between these two types of graph filters. We present an alternative optimization algorithm with linear complexity. Extensive experimental analysis demonstrates the superior performance of FSIMVC-OF over current IMVC methods. | 2024 | Self-Supervised Emotion Representation Disentanglement for Speech-Preserving Facial Expression ManipulationabstractSpeech-preserving Facial Expression Manipulation (SPFEM) aims to alter facial emotions in video content while preserving the facial movements associated with speech. Current works often fall short due to the inadequate representation of emotion as well as the absence of time-aligned paired data-two corresponding frames from the same speaker that showcase the same speech content but differ in emotional expression. In this work, we introduce a novel framework, Self-Supervised Emotion Representation Disentanglement (SSERD), to disentangle emotion representation for accurate emotion transfer while implementing a paired data construction module to facilitate automated, photorealistic facial animations. Specifically, We developed a module for learning emotion latent codes using StyleGAN's latent space, employing a cross-attention mechanism to extract and predict emotion editing codes, with contrastive learning to differentiate emotions. To overcome the lack of strictly paired data in the SPFEM task, we exploit pretrained StyleGAN to generate paired data, focusing on expression vectors unrelated to mouth shape. Additionally, we employed a hybrid training strategy using both synthetic paired and real unpaired data to enhance the realism of SPFEM model's generated images. Extensive experiments conducted on benchmark datasets, including MEAD and RAVDESS, have validated the effectiveness of our framework, demonstrating its superior capability in generating photorealistic and expressive facial animations. | 2024 | MirrorDiffusion: Stabilizing Diffusion Process in Zero-Shot Image Translation by Prompts Redescription and BeyondabstractRecently, text-to-image diffusion models become a new paradigm in image processing fields, including content generation, image restoration and image-to-image translation. Given a target prompt, Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Models (DDPM) are able to generate realistic yet eligible images. With this appealing property, the image translation task has the potential to be free from target image samples for supervision. By using a target text prompt for domain adaption, the diffusion model is able to implement zero-shot image-to-image translation advantageously. However, the sampling and inversion processes of DDPM are stochastic, and thus the inversion process often fail to reconstruct the input content. Specifically, the displacement effect will gradually accumulated during the diffusion and inversion processes, which led to the reconstructed results deviating from the source domain. To make reconstruction explicit, we propose a prompt redescription strategy to realize a mirror effect between the source and reconstructed image in the diffusion model (MirrorDiffusion). More specifically, a prompt redescription mechanism is investigated to align the text prompts with latent code at each time step of the Denoising Diffusion Implicit Models (DDIM) inversion to pursue a structure-preserving reconstruction. With the revised DDIM inversion, MirrorDiffusion is able to realize accurate zero-shot image translation by editing optimized text prompts and latent code. Extensive experiments demonstrate that MirrorDiffusion achieves superior performance over the state-of-the-art methods on zero-shot image translation benchmarks by clear margins and practical model stability. | 2024 | SIRST-5K: Exploring Massive Negatives Synthesis With Self-Supervised Learning for Robust Infrared Small Target DetectionabstractSingle-frame infrared small target (SIRST) detection aims to recognize small targets from clutter backgrounds. Recently, convolutional neural networks have achieved significant advantages in general object detection. With the development of Transformer, the scale of SIRST models is constantly increasing. Due to the limited training samples, performance has not been improved accordingly. The quality, quantity, and diversity of the infrared dataset are critical to the detection of small targets. To highlight this issue, we propose a negative sample augmentation method in this paper. Specifically, a negative augmentation approach is proposed to generate massive negatives for self-supervised learning. Firstly, we perform a sequential noise modeling technology to generate realistic infrared data. Secondly, we fuse the extracted noise with the original data to facilitate diversity and fidelity in the generated data. Lastly, we proposed a negative augmentation strategy to enrich diversity as well as maintain semantic invariance. The proposed algorithm produces a synthetic SIRST-5K dataset, which contains massive pseudo-data and corresponding labels. With a rich diversity of infrared small target data, our algorithm significantly improves the model performance and convergence speed. | 2024 | Diff-Mosaic: Augmenting Realistic Representations in Infrared Small Target Detection via Diffusion PriorabstractRecently, researchers have proposed various deep learning methods to accurately detect infrared targets with the characteristics of indistinct shape and texture. Due to the limited variety of infrared datasets, training deep learning models with good generalization poses a challenge. To augment the infrared dataset, researchers employ data augmentation techniques, which often involve generating new images by combining images from different datasets. However, these methods are lacking in two respects. In terms of realism, the images generated by mixup-based methods lack realism and are difficult to effectively simulate complex real-world scenarios. In terms of diversity, compared with real-world scenes, borrowing knowledge from another dataset inherently has a limited diversity. Currently, the diffusion model stands out as an innovative generative approach. Large-scale trained diffusion models have a strong generative prior that enables real-world modeling of images to generate diverse and realistic images. In this paper, we propose Diff-Mosaic, a data augmentation method based on the diffusion model. This model effectively alleviates the challenge of diversity and realism of data augmentation methods via diffusion prior. Specifically, our method consists of two stages. Firstly, we introduce an enhancement network called Pixel-Prior, which generates highly coordinated and realistic Mosaic images by harmonizing pixels. In the second stage, we propose an image enhancement strategy named Diff-Prior. This strategy utilizes diffusion priors to model images in the real-world scene, further enhancing the diversity and realism of the images. Extensive experiments have demonstrated that our approach significantly improves the performance of the detection network. The code is available at https://github.com/YupeiLin2388/Diff-Mosaic. | 2024 | IDF-CR: Iterative Diffusion Process for Divide-and-Conquer Cloud Removal in Remote-Sensing ImagesabstractDeep learning technologies have demonstrated their effectiveness in removing cloud cover from optical remote-sensing images. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) exert dominance in the cloud removal tasks. However, constrained by the inherent limitations of convolutional operations, CNNs can address only a modest fraction of cloud occlusion. In recent years, diffusion models have achieved state-of-the-art (SOTA) proficiency in image generation and reconstruction due to their formidable generative capabilities. Inspired by the rapid development of diffusion models, we first present an iterative diffusion process for cloud removal (IDF-CR), which exhibits a strong generative capabilities to achieve component divide-and-conquer cloud removal. IDF-CR consists of a pixel space cloud removal module (Pixel-CR) and a latent space iterative noise diffusion network (IND). Specifically, IDF-CR is divided into two-stage models that address pixel space and latent space. The two-stage model facilitates a strategic transition from preliminary cloud reduction to meticulous detail refinement. In the pixel space stage, Pixel-CR initiates the processing of cloudy images, yielding a suboptimal cloud removal prior to providing the diffusion model with prior cloud removal knowledge. In the latent space stage, the diffusion model transforms low-quality cloud removal into high-quality clean output. We refine the Stable Diffusion by implementing ControlNet. In addition, an unsupervised iterative noise refinement (INR) module is introduced for diffusion model to optimize the distribution of the predicted noise, thereby enhancing advanced detail recovery. Our model performs best with other SOTA methods, including image reconstruction and optical remote-sensing cloud removal on the optical remote-sensing datasets. | 2024 | NiteDR: Nighttime Image De-Raining With Cross-View Sensor Cooperative Learning for Dynamic Driving ScenesabstractIn real-world environments, outdoor imaging systems are often affected by disturbances such as rain degradation. Especially, in nighttime driving scenes, insufficient and uneven lighting shrouds the scenes in darkness, resulting degradation of both the image quality and visibility. Particularly, in the field of autonomous driving, the visual perception ability of RGB sensors experiences a sharp decline in such harsh scenarios. Additionally, driving assistance systems suffer from reduced capabilities in capturing and discerning the surrounding environment, posing a threat to driving safety. Single-view information captured by single-modal sensors cannot comprehensively depict the entire scene. To address these challenges, we developed an image deraining framework tailored for rainy nighttime driving scenes. It aims to remove rain artifacts, enrich scene representation, and restore useful information. Specifically, we introduce cooperative learning between visible and infrared images captured by different sensors. By cross-view fusion of these multi-source data, the scene within the images gains richer texture details and enhanced contrast. We constructed an information cleaning module called CleanNet as the first stage of our framework. Moreover, we designed an information fusion module called FusionNet as the second stage to fuse the clean visible images with infrared images. Using this stage-by-stage learning strategy, we obtain de-rained fusion images with higher quality and better visual perception. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed Cross-View Cooperative Learning (CVCL) in adverse driving scenarios in low-light rainy environments. The proposed approach addresses the gap in the utilization of existing rain removal algorithms in specific low-light conditions. It also holds promise for extending the application of image de-raining and image fusion methods to computer vision tasks. Cidan Shi, Lihuang Fang, Xiaoyu Xian, Yukai Shi, Liang Lin 0004 |

To create high-quality 3D avatars, DreamWaltz proposes 3D-consistent occlusion-aware Score Distillation Sampling (SDS) to optimize implicit neural representations with canonical poses. It provides view-aligned supervision via 3D-aware skeleton conditioning which enables complex avatar generation without artifacts and multiple faces. For animation, our method learns an animatable 3D avatar representation from abundant image priors of diffusion model conditioned on various poses, which could animate complex non-rigged avatars given arbitrary poses without retraining. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that DreamWaltz is an effective and robust approach for creating 3D avatars that can take on complex shapes and appearances as well as novel poses for animation. The proposed framework further enables the creation of complex scenes with diverse compositions, including avatar-avatar, avatar-object and avatar-scene interactions. | 2023 | ADASR: An Adversarial Auto-Augmentation Framework for Hyperspectral and Multispectral Data FusionabstractDeep learning-based hyperspectral image (HSI) super-resolution, which aims to generate high spatial resolution HSI (HR-HSI) by fusing hyperspectral image (HSI) and multispectral image (MSI) with deep neural networks (DNNs), has attracted lots of attention. However, neural networks require large amounts of training data, hindering their application in real-world scenarios. In this letter, we propose a novel adversarial automatic data augmentation framework ADASR that automatically optimizes and augments HSI-MSI sample pairs to enrich data diversity for HSI-MSI fusion. Our framework is sample-aware and optimizes an augmentor network and two downsampling networks jointly by adversarial learning so that we can learn more robust downsampling networks for training the upsampling network. Extensive experiments on two public classical hyperspectral datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our ADASR compared to the state-of-the-art methods. | 2023 | Real-World Image Super-Resolution by Exclusionary Dual-LearningabstractReal-world image super-resolution is a practical image restoration problem that aims to obtain high-quality images from in-the-wild input, has recently received considerable attention with regard to its tremendous application potentials. Although deep learning-based methods have achieved promising restoration quality on real-world image super-resolution datasets, they ignore the relationship between L1- and perceptual- minimization and roughly adopt auxiliary large-scale datasets for pre-training. In this paper, we discuss the image types within a corrupted image and the property of perceptual- and Euclidean- based evaluation protocols. Then we propose a method, Real-World image Super-Resolution by Exclusionary Dual-Learning (RWSR-EDL) to address the feature diversity in perceptual- and L1- based cooperative learning. Moreover, a noise-guidance data collection strategy is developed to address the training time consumption in multiple datasets optimization. When an auxiliary dataset is incorporated, RWSR-EDL achieves promising results and repulses any training time increment by adopting the noise-guidance data collection strategy. Extensive experiments show that RWSR-EDL achieves competitive performance over state-of-the-art methods on four in-the-wild image super-resolution datasets. | 2023 | OccluMix: Towards De-Occlusion Virtual Try-on by Semantically-Guided MixupabstractImage Virtual try-on aims at replacing the cloth on a personal image with a garment image (in-shop clothes), which has attracted increasing attention from the multimedia and computer vision communities. Prior methods successfully preserve the character of clothing images, however, occlusion remains a pernicious effect for realistic virtual try-on. In this work, we first present a comprehensive analysis of the occlusions and categorize them into two aspects: i) Inherent-Occlusion: the ghost of the former cloth still exists in the try-on image; ii) Acquired-Occlusion: the target cloth warps to the unreasonable body part. Based on the in-depth analysis, we find that the occlusions can be simulated by a novel semantically-guided mixup module, which can generate semantic-specific occluded images that work together with the try-on images to facilitate training a de-occlusion try-on (DOC-VTON) framework. Specifically, DOC-VTON first conducts a sharpened semantic parsing on the try-on person. Aided by semantics guidance and pose prior, various complexities of texture are selectively blending with human parts in a copy-and-paste manner. Then, the Generative Module (GM) is utilized to take charge of synthesizing the final try-on image and learning to de-occlusion jointly. In comparison to the state-of-the-art methods, DOC-VTON achieves better perceptual quality by reducing occlusion effects. | 2022 | Exploring Negatives in Contrastive Learning for Unpaired Image-to-Image TranslationabstractUnpaired image-to-image translation aims to find a mapping between the source domain and the target domain. To alleviate the problem of the lack of supervised labels for the source images, cycle-consistency based methods have been proposed for image structure preservation by assuming a reversible relationship between unpaired images. However, this assumption only uses limited correspondence between image pairs. Recently, contrastive learning (CL) has been used to further investigate the image correspondence in unpaired image translation by using patch-based positive/negative learning. Patch-based contrastive routines obtain the positives by self-similarity computation and recognize the rest patches as negatives. This flexible learning paradigm obtains auxiliary contextualized information at a low cost. As the negatives own an impressive sample number, with curiosity, we make an investigation based on a question: are all negatives necessary for feature contrastive learning? Unlike previous CL approaches that use negatives as much as possible, in this paper, we study the negatives from an information-theoretic perspective and introduce a new negative Pruning technology for Unpaired image-to-image Translation (PUT) by sparsifying and ranking the patches. The proposed algorithm is efficient, flexible and enables the model to learn essential information between corresponding patches stably. By putting quality over quantity, only a few negative patches are required to achieve better results. Lastly, we validate the superiority, stability, and versatility of our model through comparative experiments. Yupei Lin, Sen Zhang 0006, Tianshui Chen, Yongyi Lu, Guangping Li 0002, Yukai Shi |

| 2022 | Criteria Comparative Learning for Real-Scene Image Super-ResolutionabstractReal-scene image super-resolution aims to restore real-world low-resolution images into their high-quality versions. A typical RealSR framework usually includes the optimization of multiple criteria which are designed for different image properties, by making the implicit assumption that the ground-truth images can provide a good trade-off between different criteria. However, this assumption could be easily violated in practice due to the inherent contrastive relationship between different image properties. Contrastive learning (CL) provides a promising recipe to relieve this problem by learning discriminative features using the triplet contrastive losses. Though CL has achieved significant success in many computer vision tasks, it is non-trivial to introduce CL to RealSR due to the difficulty in defining valid positive image pairs in this case. Inspired by the observation that the contrastive relationship could also exist between the criteria, in this work, we propose a novel training paradigm for RealSR, named Criteria Comparative Learning (Cria-CL), by developing contrastive losses defined on criteria instead of image patches. In addition, a spatial projector is proposed to obtain a good view for Cria-CL in RealSR. Our experiments demonstrate that compared with the typical weighted regression strategy, our method achieves a significant improvement under similar parameter settings. | 2021 | GTAE: Graph Transformer-Based Auto-Encoders for Linguistic-Constrained Text Style TransferabstractNon-parallel text style transfer has attracted increasing research interests in recent years. Despite successes in transferring the style based on the encoder-decoder framework, current approaches still lack the ability to preserve the content and even logic of original sentences, mainly due to the large unconstrained model space or too simplified assumptions on latent embedding space. Since language itself is an intelligent product of humans with certain grammars and has a limited rule-based model space by its nature, relieving this problem requires reconciling the model capacity of deep neural networks with the intrinsic model constraints from human linguistic rules. To this end, we propose a method called Graph Transformer–based Auto-Encoder, which models a sentence as a linguistic graph and performs feature extraction and style transfer at the graph level, to maximally retain the content and the linguistic structure of original sentences. Quantitative experiment results on three non-parallel text style transfer tasks show that our model outperforms state-of-the-art methods in content preservation, while achieving comparable performance on transfer accuracy and sentence naturalness. | 2021 | Unsupervised Multi-View Clustering by Squeezing Hybrid Knowledge From Cross View and Each ViewabstractMulti-view clustering methods have been a focus in recent years because of their superiority in clustering performance. However, typical traditional multi-view clustering algorithms still have shortcomings in some aspects, such as removal of redundant information, utilization of various views and fusion of multi-view features. In view of these problems, this paper proposes a new multi-view clustering method, low-rank subspace multi-view clustering based on adaptive graph regularization. We construct two new data matrix decomposition models into a unified optimization model. In this framework, we address the significance of the common knowledge shared by the cross view and the unique knowledge of each view by presenting new low-rank and sparse constraints on the sparse subspace matrix. To ensure that we achieve effective sparse representation and clustering performance on the original data matrix, adaptive graph regularization and unsupervised clustering constraints are also incorporated in the proposed model to preserve the internal structural features of the data. Finally, the proposed method is compared with several state-of-the-art algorithms. Experimental results for five widely used multi-view benchmarks show that our proposed algorithm surpasses other state-of-the-art methods by a clear margin. | 2020 | Face Hallucination by Attentive Sequence Optimization with Reinforcement LearningabstractFace hallucination is a domain-specific super-resolution problem that aims to generate a high-resolution (HR) face image from a low-resolution (LR) input. In contrast to the existing patch-wise super-resolution models that divide a face image into regular patches and independently apply LR to HR mapping to each patch, we implement deep reinforcement learning and develop a novel attention-aware face hallucination (Attention-FH) framework, which recurrently learns to attend a sequence of patches and performs facial part enhancement by fully exploiting the global interdependency of the image. Specifically, our proposed framework incorporates two components: a recurrent policy network for dynamically specifying a new attended region at each time step based on the status of the super-resolved image and the past attended region sequence, and a local enhancement network for selected patch hallucination and global state updating. The Attention-FH model jointly learns the recurrent policy network and local enhancement network through maximizing a long-term reward that reflects the hallucination result with respect to the whole HR image. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our Attention-FH significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art methods on in-the-wild face images with large pose and illumination variations. | 2020 | DDet: Dual-Path Dynamic Enhancement Network for Real-World Image Super-ResolutionabstractDifferent from traditional image super-resolution task, real image super-resolution(Real-SR) focus on the relationship between real-world high-resolution(HR) and low-resolution(LR) image. Most of the traditional image SR obtains the LR sample by applying a fixed down-sampling operator. Real-SR obtains the LR and HR image pair by incorporating different quality optical sensors. Generally, Real-SR has more challenges as well as broader application scenarios. Previous image SR methods fail to exhibit similar performance on Real-SR as the image data is not aligned inherently. In this article, we propose a Dual-path Dynamic Enhancement Network(DDet) for Real-SR, which addresses the cross-camera image mapping by realizing a dual-way dynamic sub-pixel weighted aggregation and refinement. Unlike conventional methods which stack up massive convolutional blocks for feature representation, we introduce a content-aware framework to study non-inherently aligned image pair in image SR issue. First, we use a content-adaptive component to exhibit the Multi-scale Dynamic Attention(MDA). Second, we incorporate a long-term skip connection with a Coupled Detail Manipulation(CDM) to perform collaborative compensation and manipulation. The above dual-path model is joint into a unified model and works collaboratively. Extensive experiments on the challenging benchmarks demonstrate the superiority of our model. | 2019 | Difficulty-Aware Image Super Resolution via Deep Adaptive Dual-NetworkabstractRecently, deep learning based single image super-resolution(SR) approaches have achieved great development. The state-of-the-art SR methods usually adopt a feed-forward pipeline to establish a non-linear mapping between low-res(LR) and high-res(HR) images. However, due to treating all image regions equally without considering the difficulty diversity, these approaches meet an upper bound for optimization. To address this issue, we propose a novel SR approach that discriminately processes each image region within an image by its difficulty. Specifically, we propose a dual-way SR network that one way is trained to focus on easy image regions and another is trained to handle hard image regions. To identify whether a region is easy or hard, we propose a novel image difficulty recognition network based on PSNR prior. Our SR approach that uses the region mask to adaptively enforce the dual-way SR network yields superior results. Extensive experiments on several standard benchmarks (e.g., Set5, Set14, BSD100, and Urban100) show that our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance. | 2017 | Attention-Aware Face Hallucination via Deep Reinforcement LearningabstractFace hallucination is a domain-specific super-resolution problem with the goal to generate high-resolution (HR) faces from low-resolution (LR) input images. In contrast to existing methods that often learn a single patch-to-patch mapping from LR to HR images and are regardless of the contextual interdependency between patches, we propose a novel Attention-aware Face Hallucination (Attention-FH) framework which resorts to deep reinforcement learning for sequentially discovering attended patches and then performing the facial part enhancement by fully exploiting the global interdependency of the image. Specifically, in each time step, the recurrent policy network is proposed to dynamically specify a new attended region by incorporating what happened in the past. The state (i.e., face hallucination result for the whole image) can thus be exploited and updated by the local enhancement network on the selected region. The Attention-FH approach jointly learns the recurrent policy network and local enhancement network through maximizing the long-term reward that reflects the hallucination performance over the whole image. Therefore, our proposed Attention-FH is capable of adaptively personalizing an optimal searching path for each face image according to its own characteristic. Extensive experiments show our approach significantly surpasses the state-of-the-arts on in-the-wild faces with large pose and illumination variations. | 2017 | Structure-Preserving Image Super-Resolution via Contextualized Multitask LearningabstractSingle-image super-resolution (SR), which refers to reconstructing a higher resolution image from the observed lowresolution (LR) image, has received substantial attention due to its tremendous application potentials. Despite the breakthroughs of recently proposed SR methods using convolutional neural networks, their generated results usually lack of preserving structural (high-frequency) details. In this paper, regarding global boundary context and residual context as complimentary information for enhancing structural details in image restoration, we develop a contextualized multitask learning framework to address the SR problem. Specifically, our method first extracts convolutional features from the input LR image and applies one deconvolutional module to interpolate the LR feature maps in a content-adaptive way. Then, the resulting feature maps are fed into two branched subnetworks. On several standard benchmarks (e.g., Set5, Set14, and BSD200), our extensive evaluations demonstrate the effectiveness of our SR method on achieving both higher restoration quality and computational efficiency compared with several state-of-the-art SR approaches. | 2016 | Local- and holistic-structure preserving image super resolution via deep joint component learningabstractRecently, machine learning based single image super resolution (SR) approaches focus on jointly learning representations for high-resolution (HR) and low-resolution (LR) image patch pairs to improve the quality of the super-resolved images. However, due to treat all image pixels equally without considering the salient structures, these approaches usually fail to produce visual pleasant images with sharp edges and fine details. To address this issue, in this work we present a new novel SR approach, which replaces the main building blocks of the classical interpolation pipeline by a flexible, content-adaptive deep neural networks. In particular, two well-designed structure-aware components, respectively capturing local- and holistic-image contents, are naturally incorporated into the fully-convolutional representation learning to enhance the image sharpness and naturalness. Extensively evaluations on several standard benchmarks (e.g., Set5, Set14 and BSD200) demonstrate that our approach can achieve superior results, especially on the image with salient structures, over many existing state-of-the-art SR methods under both quantitative and qualitative measures.
