2025 Depth Pro: Sharp Monocular Metric Depth in Less Than a Second
abstract
We present a foundation model for zero-shot metric monocular depth estimation. Our model, Depth Pro, synthesizes high-resolution depth maps with unparalleled sharpness and high-frequency details. The predictions are metric, with absolute scale, without relying on the availability of metadata such as camera intrinsics. And the model is fast, producing a 2.25-megapixel depth map in 0.3 seconds on a standard GPU. These characteristics are enabled by a number of technical contributions, including an efficient multi-scale vision transformer for dense prediction, a training protocol that combines real and synthetic datasets to achieve high metric accuracy alongside fine boundary tracing, dedicated evaluation metrics for boundary accuracy in estimated depth maps, and state-of-the-art focal length estimation from a single image. Extensive experiments analyze specific design choices and demonstrate that Depth Pro outperforms prior work along multiple dimensions. 2016 Automatic 3D reconstruction of manifold meshes via delaunay triangulation and mesh sweeping
abstract
In this paper we propose a new approach to incrementally initialize a manifold surface for automatic 3D reconstruction from images. More precisely we focus on the automatic initialization of a 3D mesh as close as possible to the final solution; indeed many approaches require a good initial solution for further refinement via multi-view stereo techniques. Our novel algorithm automatically estimates an initial manifold mesh for surface evolving multi-view stereo algorithms, where the manifold property needs to be enforced. It bootstraps from 3D points extracted via Structure from Motion, then iterates between a state-of-the-art manifold reconstruction step and a novel mesh sweeping algorithm that looks for new 3D points in the neighborhood of the reconstructed manifold to be added in the manifold reconstruction. The experimental results show quantitatively that the mesh sweeping improves the resolution and the accuracy of the manifold reconstruction, allowing a better convergence of state-of-the-art surface evolution multi-view stereo algorithms.

2014 Two Cameras and a Screen: How to Calibrate Mobile Devices?
abstract
We propose a new approach to estimate the geometric extrinsic calibration of all the elements of a smart phone or tablet (such as the screen, the front and the back cameras) by using a planar mirror. By moving a smart phone in front of a single static planar mirror, it is possible to establish correspondences between the images and a pattern displayed on the screen, and therefore estimate the geometric relationship between the non-overlapping cameras with respect to the screen location. The newly proposed setup (static mirror, moving smart phone) enables to both improve the state-of-the-art by working in the minimal case of two images, and improve the accuracy when more images are available. We analyze the minimal case for different calibration scenarios and evaluate the proposed approach on several data. We also show an application of this geometric calibration for specular surface reconstruction, by observing the reflection of a known pattern displayed on the screen.

2014 Photometric Bundle Adjustment for Dense Multi-view 3D Modeling
abstract
Motivated by a Bayesian vision of the 3D multi-view reconstruction from images problem, we propose a dense 3D reconstruction technique that jointly refines the shape and the camera parameters of a scene by minimizing the photometric reprojection error between a generated model and the observed images, hence considering all pixels in the original images. The minimization is performed using a gradient descent scheme coherent with the shape representation (here a triangular mesh), where we derive evolution equations in order to optimize both the shape and the camera parameters. This can be used at a last refinement step in 3D reconstruction pipelines and helps improving the 3D reconstruction's quality by estimating the 3D shape and camera calibration more accurately. Examples are shown for multi-view stereo where the texture is also jointly optimized and improved, but could be used for any generative approaches dealing with multi-view reconstruction settings (ie depth map fusion, multi-view photometric stereo).

2009 Convex multi-region segmentation on manifolds
abstract
In this paper, we address the problem of segmenting data defined on a manifold into a set of regions with uniform properties. In particular, we propose a numerical method when the manifold is represented by a triangular mesh. Based on recent image segmentation models, our method minimizes a convex energy and then enjoys significant favorable properties: it is robust to initialization and avoid the problem of the existence of local minima present in many variational models. The contributions of this paper are threefold: firstly we adapt the convex image labeling model to manifolds; in particular the total variation formulation. Secondly we show how to implement the proposed method on triangular meshes, and finally we show how to use and combine the method in other computer vision problems, such as 3D reconstruction. We demonstrate the efficiency of our method by testing it on various data.
