| 2024 | KoLA: Carefully Benchmarking World Knowledge of Large Language ModelsabstractThe unprecedented performance of large language models (LLMs) necessitates improvements in evaluations. Rather than merely exploring the breadth of LLM abilities, we believe meticulous and thoughtful designs are essential to thorough, unbiased, and applicable evaluations. Given the importance of world knowledge to LLMs, we construct a Knowledge-oriented LLM Assessment benchmark (KoLA), in which we carefully design three crucial factors: (1) For ability modeling, we mimic human cognition to form a four-level taxonomy of knowledge-related abilities, covering 19 tasks. (2) For data, to ensure fair comparisons, we use both Wikipedia, a corpus prevalently pre-trained by LLMs, along with continuously collected emerging corpora, aiming to evaluate the capacity to handle unseen data and evolving knowledge. (3) For evaluation criteria, we adopt a contrastive system, including overall standard scores for better numerical comparability across tasks and models, and a unique self-contrast metric for automatically evaluating knowledge-creating ability. We evaluate 21 open-source and commercial LLMs and obtain some intriguing findings. The KoLA dataset will be updated every three months to provide timely references for developing LLMs and knowledge-related systems. | 2024 | XLORE 3: A Large-Scale Multilingual Knowledge Graph from Heterogeneous Wiki Knowledge ResourcesabstractIn recent years, knowledge graph (KG) has attracted significant attention from academia and industry, resulting in the development of numerous technologies for KG construction, completion, and application. XLORE is one of the largest multilingual KGs built from Baidu Baike and Wikipedia via a series of knowledge modeling and acquisition methods. In this article, we utilize systematic methods to improve XLORE's data quality and present its latest version, XLORE 3, which enables the effective integration and management of heterogeneous knowledge from diverse resources. Compared with previous versions, XLORE 3 has three major advantages: (1) We design a comprehensive and reasonable schema, namely XLORE ontology, which can effectively organize and manage entities from various resources. (2) We merge equivalent entities in different languages to facilitate knowledge sharing. We provide a large-scale entity linking system to establish the associations between unstructured text and structured KG. (3) We design a multi-strategy knowledge completion framework, which leverages pre-trained language models and vast amounts of unstructured text to discover missing and new facts. The resulting KG contains 446 concepts, 2,608 properties, 66 million entities, and more than 2 billion facts. It is available and downloadable online at https://www.xlore.cn/ , providing a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners in various fields. | 2022 | COPEN: Probing Conceptual Knowledge in Pre-trained Language ModelsabstractConceptual knowledge is fundamental to human cognition and knowledge bases. However, existing knowledge probing works only focus on evaluating factual knowledge of pre-trained language models (PLMs) and ignore conceptual knowledge.Since conceptual knowledge often appears as implicit commonsense behind texts, designing probes for conceptual knowledge is hard.Inspired by knowledge representation schemata, we comprehensively evaluate conceptual knowledge of PLMs by designing three tasks to probe whether PLMs organize entities by conceptual similarities, learn conceptual properties, and conceptualize entities in contexts, respectively. For the tasks, we collect and annotate 24k data instances covering 393 concepts, which is COPEN, a COnceptual knowledge Probing bENchmark.Extensive experiments on different sizes and types of PLMs show that existing PLMs systematically lack conceptual knowledge and suffer from various spurious correlations. We believe this is a critical bottleneck for realizing human-like cognition in PLMs.COPEN and our codes are publicly released at https: //github.com/THU-KEG/COPEN. | 2021 | Combining GCN and Bi-LSTM for Protein Secondary Structure PredictionabstractProtein secondary structure prediction is still a challenging task in bioinformatics, especially for 8-state (Q8) classification. To address this problem, we have proposed a deep learning based model by integrating graph convolutional network(GCN) and bidirectional long short-term memory (Bi-LSTM) network in this paper. In the model, GCN is utilized to synthesize the information of amino acids and their interactions, while Bi-LSTM has strong ability to capture the long-range dependencies of amino acids. For sequence representation, a new protein embedding derived by ProtTrans is used instead of the traditional amino acid one-hot encoding, together with evolutionary features of PSSM and HHM profiles. Amino acid contact potential derived from SPOTContact-Helical is used to construct amino acid graph. To verify the effectiveness of our proposed model, it is applied to several benchmark datasets, and obtained 78.05%, 76.81% 72.84%, 74.46% and 76.04% Q8 accuracy on CASP10, CASP11, CASP12, CB513 and TS115 datasets, respectively. Compared with 8 state-of-the-art competitions, our model obtained the best performance in most of datasets. Hailong Jin, Wei Du 0002, Jiawei Gu, Xiaohu Shi |

| 2018 | Attributed and Predictive Entity Embedding for Fine-Grained Entity Typing in Knowledge BasesabstractFine-grained entity typing aims at identifying the semantic type of an entity in KB. Type information is very important in knowledge bases, but are unfortunately incomplete even in some large knowledge bases. Limitations of existing methods are either ignoring the structure and type information in KB or requiring large scale annotated corpus. To address these issues, we propose an attributed and predictive entity embedding method, which can fully utilize various kinds of information comprehensively. Extensive experiments on two real DBpedia datasets show that our proposed method significantly outperforms 8 state-of-the-art methods, with 4.0% and 5.2% improvement in Mi-F1 and Ma-F1, respectively.
