2026 EAGLE: Episodic Appearance- and Geometry-aware Memory for Unified 2D-3D Visual Query Localization in Egocentric Vision
abstract
Egocentric visual query localization is vital for embodied AI and VR/AR, yet remains challenging due to camera motion, viewpoint changes, and appearance variations. We present EAGLE, a novel framework that leverages episodic appearance- and geometry-aware memory to achieve unified 2D-3D visual query localization in egocentric vision. Inspired by avian memory consolidation, EAGLE synergistically integrates segmentation guided by an appearance-aware meta-learning memory (AMM), with tracking driven by a geometry-aware localization memory (GLM). This memory consolidation mechanism, through structured appearance and geometry memory banks, stores high-confidence retrieval samples, effectively supporting both long- and short-term modeling of target appearance variations. This enables precise contour delineation with robust spatial discrimination, leading to significantly improved retrieval accuracy. Furthermore, by integrating the VQL-2D output with a visual geometry grounded Transformer (VGGT), we achieve a efficient unification of 2D and 3D tasks, enabling rapid and accurate back-projection into 3D space. Our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on the Ego4D-VQ benchmark.

2026 BiOVQL: Brain-inspired One-stage Egocentric Visual Query Localization
abstract
Visual query localization (VQL) is pivotal for constructing episodic memory from egocentric videos. However, current methods often rely on computationally intensive attention mechanisms and rigid one-shot regression, which inherently struggle to model uncertainty and exhibit limited adaptability to degraded query appearances. This contrasts sharply with the human brain’s selective encoding and iterative hypothesis verification processes for episodic memory. Inspired by the human brain’s ability to selectively filter irrelevant information and reconstruct vague memory fragments through generative inference, we propose BiOVQL, a brain-inspired one-stage VQL framework. First, inspired by the hippocampus’s selective retention mechanism, we propose the Hippocampus-like Query-guided Spatio-Temporal Compression (HQSTC) module. By leveraging a selective state space model, visual queries are treated as neuromodulators, dynamically gating the video stream to maintain a compact latent state. This guides the model to consistently focus on query-relevant visual cues, enabling query-conditioned feature compression and efficient spatio-temporal memory encoding. Second, inspired by the prefrontal cortex’s re-localization mechanisms, we propose the Prefrontal-like Generative Refinement Localization (PGRL) module. We leverage a diffusion model to reconstruct the localization process as iterative denoising from noise to certainty, which aligns well with the human visual system’s coarse-to-fine perceptual reasoning. This enhances the model’s robustness in handling spatial ambiguities and achieving precise spatio-temporal retrieval. We conducted extensive experiments on the Ego4D-VQ benchmark, demonstrating that BiOVQL achieves state-of-the-art performance with comparable computational efficiency, thus offering an efficient and brain-inspired paradigm for VQL.

2024 Learn to Walk with Continuous-action for Knowledge-enhanced Recommendation System
abstract
Knowledge graphs are more widely utilized to enhance recommendability and explainability. Reinforcement learning agents built to wander around the knowledge graph have been successfully applied in recommendation systems in a form of multi-hop relation reasoning. Some previous multi-hop methods relied on reinforcement learning of discrete actions, making agent space design challenging and a lack of clarity in the meaning of actions because of inconsistent action. To solve the aforementioned issues, we propose Continuous-action Walking-tendency Interest-oriented Path Reasoning (CWIPR), a novel and pioneering method that uses continuous actions provided by reinforcement learning agents to predict inference relations and the next entity. Meanwhile, to better interact with the knowledge graph through continuous actions, we firstly propose a graph search algorithm called the walking tendency algorithm. Moreover, we introduce an interest-oriented reward as the intrinsic reward that encourages the agent to balance the tendency between exploring the most similar entities and exploring the correct recommendation type to achieve more precise recommendations. We extensively evaluate our method on three real-world datasets from Amazon and obtain favorable performance compared with state-of-the-art methods.

2023 Future Aware Pricing and Matching for Sustainable On-Demand Ride Pooling
abstract
The popularity of on-demand ride pooling is owing to the benefits offered to customers (lower prices), taxi drivers (higher revenue), environment (lower carbon footprint due to fewer vehicles) and aggregation companies like Uber (higher revenue). To achieve these benefits, two key interlinked challenges have to be solved effectively: (a) pricing -- setting prices to customer requests for taxis; and (b) matching -- assignment of customers (that accepted the prices) to taxis/cars. Traditionally, both these challenges have been studied individually and using myopic approaches (considering only current requests), without considering the impact of current matching on addressing future requests. In this paper, we develop a novel framework that handles the pricing and matching problems together, while also considering the future impact of the pricing and matching decisions. In our experimental results on a real-world taxi dataset, we demonstrate that our framework can significantly improve revenue (up to 17% and on average 6.4%) in a sustainable manner by reducing the number of vehicles (up to 14% and on average 10.6%) required to obtain a given fixed revenue and the overall distance travelled by vehicles (up to 11.1% and on average 3.7%). That is to say, we are able to provide an ideal win-win scenario for all stakeholders (customers, drivers, aggregator, environment) involved by obtaining higher revenue for customers, drivers, aggregator (ride pooling company) while being good for the environment (due to fewer number of vehicles on the road and lesser fuel consumed).
