| 2025 | The celebrity effect in microblog browsing among Chinese college students: based on implicit and recognition proceduresabstractThis study examines the influence of celebrities on microblog browsing behaviours among Chinese college students, specifically analyzing implicit attitudes and recognition processes for both celebrity and non-celebrity microblog pages. Data were collected from 89 Chinese university students using the Implicit Association Test (IAT) and a recognition scoring test. employing a 2 (frequent users vs. non-frequent users) × 2 (celebrity microblogs vs. non-celebrity microblogs) mixed factorial design. Results indicate a significant preference for celebrity microblog pages, evidenced by more positive implicit attitudes and higher recognition scores compared to those for non-celebrity pages. Furthermore, frequent users demonstrated enhanced recognition, which suggests a significant celebrity effect. The study revealed the underlying automatic preference of college students for celebrities in their microblogs. Huishan Pang, Ying Ge, Jay L. Wenger, Run-xi Zeng |

| 2023 | MASH Native: a unified solution for native top-down proteomics data processingabstractMOTIVATION: Native top-down proteomics (nTDP) integrates native mass spectrometry (nMS) with top-down proteomics (TDP) to provide comprehensive analysis of protein complexes together with proteoform identification and characterization. Despite significant advances in nMS and TDP software developments, a unified and user-friendly software package for analysis of nTDP data remains lacking. RESULTS: We have developed MASH Native to provide a unified solution for nTDP to process complex datasets with database searching capabilities in a user-friendly interface. MASH Native supports various data formats and incorporates multiple options for deconvolution, database searching, and spectral summing to provide a "one-stop shop" for characterizing both native protein complexes and proteoforms. AVAILABILITY AND IMPLEMENTATION: The MASH Native app, video tutorials, written tutorials, and additional documentation are freely available for download at https://labs.wisc.edu/gelab/MASH_Explorer/MASHSoftware.php. All data files shown in user tutorials are included with the MASH Native software in the download .zip file. Eli J. Larson, Melissa R. Pergande, Michelle E. Moss, Kalina J. Rossler, R. | 2021 | Eye-tracking study of the celebrity effect on microblogging browsing: an example from Sina microblogabstractIn this study, 89 college students were selected as research participants and the eye-tracking method was used to explore their browsing patterns and cognitive processing mechanisms for microblogging pages of celebrities and non-celebrities. Results showed that participants were more interested in the microblogging pages of celebrities than non-celebrities. Different types of participants had different cognitive processing strategies for microblogging pages: frequent bloggers used top-down processing methods to process the microblogging pages and infrequent bloggers used bottom-up methods for more sophisticated processing. Participants also had different degrees of cognitive processing for different regions of the microblogging pages. All participants gave priority to the processing of microblog contents, but the processing of celebrity microblog pages showed the dominant effect of profile picture, and the priority of blogger information was revealed in the processing of non-celebrity microblogs. | 2017 | User Association Algorithm for Throughput Improvement in High-Density Wireless NetworksabstractThe default mechanism for a wireless station to select which access point (AP) to associate with is based on the strength of the received signal by the station. This leads to stations associating to the closest AP. In situations where user stations are concentrated around one AP, the default algorithm (DA) results in an unbalanced distribution of station-AP associations. This causes congestion at the AP with many associated stations, which degrades the network throughput. We propose a novel association algorithm called Time-Load Algorithm (TLA) that associates stations to an AP based on the time-loading of that AP as well as its signal strength. We evaluate the performance of our TLA in comparison with the DA in different scenarios based on network throughput and packet delivery ratio. The simulation results clearly indicate that the TLA outperforms the DA in all scenarios alleviating highly loaded APs and improving throughput experience. Omneya Issa, Ying Ge, Aizaz U. | 2012 | CistromeMap: a knowledgebase and web server for ChIP-Seq and DNase-Seq studies in mouse and humanabstractAbstract Summary: Transcription and chromatin regulators, and histone modifications play essential roles in gene expression regulation. We have created CistromeMap as a web server to provide a comprehensive knowledgebase of all of the publicly available ChIP-Seq and DNase-Seq data in mouse and human. We have also manually curated metadata to ensure annotation consistency, and developed a user-friendly display matrix for quick navigation and retrieval of data for specific factors, cells and papers. Finally, we provide users with summary statistics of ChIP-Seq and DNase-Seq studies. | 2005 | Hierarchical OLSR - a scalable proactive routing protocol for heterogeneous ad hoc networksabstractThe IETF's mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) working group has designated the optimized link state routing (OLSR) as being one of four base routing protocols for use in ad hoc networks. Ad hoc routing protocols in general, including OLSR, do not scale well in heterogeneous networks, as they do not differentiate between the transmission capabilities of various member nodes, nor the channel access control scheme used by nodes when performing routing computations, even though many of the protocols support nodes having multiple interfaces. Under OLSR, for example, the control messages are sent to all interfaces, generating a very high overhead. In this paper, we propose optimizations to OLSR in order to limit the amount of control traffic generated and to make more efficient use of the higher capacity links found in heterogeneous wireless networks. Using OPNET simulations, we introduce a hierarchical mechanism to OLSR, and demonstrate that the hierarchical OLSR (HOLSR) greatly reduces the required protocol overhead, which improves protocol scalability in large size heterogeneous networks. To our knowledge, this paper represents the first attempt made to address in-dept scalability issues of the OLSR protocol on heterogeneous wireless ad hoc networks. Ying Ge, Louise Lamont, Luis A.
