1994 Reuse state of the art and state of the practice report card
abstract
Reuse research and practice has had its share of successes and failures throughout the past decade. The paper summarizes what areas, in my opinion, have had the most significant impact toward advancing the state of the art and state of the practice of software reuse. It then discusses what areas have yet to produce significant results or have produced results significantly less than initially anticipated.>

1979 Computer Programming and the Human Thought Process
abstract
Abstract This paper analyses certain human thought processes associated with computer programming and observes some limitations, inherent in the human mind, that affect the writing of good computer programs. The thought processes associated with computer programming fall into two major categories: those associated with the nature of problem solving; and those associated with man/computer communication using conventional programming languages. The questions raised in this paper bring to light the psychological and physiological implications of such programming tools and procedures as structured programming, code walkthroughs and top‐down design in support of their use.

1974 The use of ATOPSS for presenting elementary operating system concepts
abstract
ATOPSS (_Adage Tutorial Operating System Simulator) was designed to provide both a learning tool and a teaching aid for the presentation of elementary operating system concepts to graduate or advanced undergraduate computer science students. As a real learning tool, the simulator itself offers real time interaction and observation of a parametric, discrete time event oriented operating system. For a teaching aid, a series of short movies has been produced using ATOPSS solely as its basis, demonstrating both the use of the simulator and the different concepts it portrays. These movies thus offer the portability necessary for in-classroom presentation and provide a basis for further discussion.
