| 2025 | Unified Transferability Metrics for Time Series Foundation ModelsabstractWith the increasing number of time series pre-trained models, designing transferability evaluation metrics for time series has become an urgent problem to address.
While transferability evaluation has been extensively studied in computer vision, we aim to address a critical gap by developing tailored metrics for time series analysis.
In this paper, we introduce TEMPLATE, a transferability estimation framework specifically tailored for versatile time series analysis, comprising three complementary metrics: (1) Dependency Learning Score quantifies a model’s capacity to capture temporal dependencies. (2) Pattern Learning Score evaluates the representation quality in extracting discriminative temporal patterns. (3) Task Adaptation Score assesses cross-task generalization capability, enabling versatile time series analysis. TEMPLATE presents a versatile framework compatible with both classification and regression paradigms. Through comprehensive benchmarking across 5 distinct downstream tasks, our method demonstrates superior capability in identifying optimal pre-trained models from heterogeneous model pools for transfer learning. Compared to the state-of-the-art method ETran, our approach improves the weighted Kendall's $\tau_w$ across 5 downstream tasks by 35\%. The code is available at https://github.com/ooooooover/TEMPLATE. Weiyang Zhang, Xinyang Chen 0001, Xiucheng Li, Kehai Chen, Weili Guan, Liqiang Nie |

| 2024 | Efficient Near Maximum-Likelihood Reliability-Based Decoding for Short LDPC CodesabstractIn this paper, we propose an efficient decoding algorithm for short low-density parity check (LDPC) codes by carefully combining the belief propagation (BP) decoding and ordered statistics decoding (OSD) algorithms. Specifically, a modified BP (mBP) algorithm is applied for a certain number of iterations prior to OSD to enhance the reliability of the received message, where an offset parameter is utilized in mBP to control the weight of the extrinsic information in message passing. By carefully selecting the offset parameter and the number of mBP iterations, the number of errors in the most reliable positions (MRPs) in OSD can be reduced by mBP, thereby significantly improving the overall decoding performance of error rate and complexity. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can approach the maximum-likelihood decoding (MLD) for short LDPC codes with only a slight increase in complexity compared to BP and a significant decrease compared to OSD. Specifically, the order- (m -1) decoding of the proposed algorithm can achieve the performance of the order-m OSD. Weiyang Zhang, Chentao Yue, Yonghui Li 0001, Branka Vucetic |

| 2022 | Understanding V2V Driving Scenarios Through Traffic PrimitivesabstractUnderstanding driver interaction behavioral semantics has potential benefits to autonomous car’s decision-making design. This article presents a framework of analyzing various encountering behaviors through decomposing driving encounter sequential data into small building blocks, called traffic primitives, using a Bayesian nonparametric learning (BNPL) approach. This framework offers a flexible way to gain semantic insights into complex driving encounters without any prerequisite knowledge of interaction behavior categories. Its effectiveness is then validated using 976 naturalistic driving encounters from which more than 4000 traffic primitives were learned with the BNPL approach. After that, a dynamic time warping method integrated with$k$-means clustering is then developed to cluster all these extracted traffic primitives into groups. Experimental results identify 20 kinds of traffic primitives capable of representing the essential components of driving encounters in our database. Based on the results, we conclude that the proposed primitive-based analysis could prove useful for autonomous vehicle applications. Wenshuo Wang 0001, Weiyang Zhang, Ding Zhao |

| 2021 | How to Evaluate Proving Grounds for Self-Driving? A Quantitative ApproachabstractProving ground has been a critical component in testing and validation for Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV). Although quite a few world-class testing facilities have been under construction over the years, the evaluation of proving grounds themselves as testing approaches has rarely been studied. In this paper, we present the first attempt to systematically evaluate CAV proving grounds and contribute to a generative sample-based approach to assessing the representation of traffic scenarios in proving grounds. Leveraging typical use cases extracted from naturalistic driving events, we establish a strong link between proving ground testing results of CAVs and their anticipated public street performance. We present benchmark results of our approach on three world-class CAV testing facilities: Mcity, Almono (Uber ATG), and Kcity. We successfully show the overall evaluation of these proving grounds in terms of their capability to accommodate real-world traffic scenarios. We believe that when the effectiveness of a testing ground itself is validated, the testing results would grant more confidence for CAV public deployment. | 2020 | Multi-Vehicle Interaction Scenarios Generation with Interpretable Traffic Primitives and Gaussian Process RegressionabstractGenerating multi-vehicle interaction scenarios can benefit motion planning and decision making of autonomous vehicles when on-road data is insufficient. This paper presents an efficient approach to generate varied multi-vehicle interaction scenarios that can both adapt to different road geometries and inherit the key interaction patterns in real-world driving. Towards this end, the available multi-vehicle interaction scenarios are temporally segmented into several interpretable fundamental building blocks, called traffic primitives, via the Bayesian nonparametric learning. Then, the changepoints of traffic primitives are transformed into the desired road to generate collision-free interaction trajectories through a sampling-based path planning algorithm. The Gaussian process regression is finally introduced to control the variance and smoothness of the generated multi-vehicle interaction trajectories. Experiments with simulation results of three multi-vehicle trajectories at different road conditions are carried out. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method can generate a bunch of human-like multi-vehicle interaction trajectories that can fit different road conditions remaining the key interaction patterns of agents in the provided scenarios, which is import to the development of autonomous vehicles. | 2017 | A trust networks recommender algorithm based on Latent Factor ModelabstractRecommender system in social networks has been a solution to the problem of information overload, but easily suffers the challenge of data sparsity and cold start. Meanwhile, since the concept of trust has gained wide concerns, many online social networks begin to introduce trust relationship between users, which motivates us to incorporate trust information to address above problems and improve the quality of recommendation in social networks. Latent Factor Model (LFM) such as SVD++ has been proven effectiveness in social recommendation task. Therefore, this paper proposes a trust networks recommender method based on LFM for rating prediction of recommending items. Our method exploits both explicit and implicit trust information to describe users' relationship and model their social behaviors. Furthermore, we combine LFM with neighborhood model to overcome its inability of interpretation. The experimental results on Epinions can demonstrate that trust information helps alleviate the problem of data sparsity and cold start. Besides, our combination algorithm achieves higher accuracy for prediction and outperforms other trust-based algorithms, including the state-of-the-art method. | 2015 | Extracting unknown words from Sina Weibo via data clusteringabstractSina Weibo, a Twitter-like microblogging site attracting over 240 million monthly active users to tweet, retweet, and comment, has rapidly become one of the most popular social media sites in China. As many users create new and innovative words on their tweets and comments, it is necessary to extract these emerging words, which do not exist in today's Chinese vocabulary or dictionary. Towards this end, this paper proposes a novel method based on data clustering of Weibo users and tweets for extracting unknown words from Weibo tweets and comments. Specifically, relying on the similarity of the users who post the tweets, we apply a hierarchical clustering to divide Weibo data into distinct groups, e.g., sports, news stories, movies, before extraction. Comparing with the method of unclustered Weibo data, our experimental results have successfully demonstrated the benefits of the proposed data clustering scheme for improving the recall and accuracy of extracting unknown Chinese words from tweets and comments.
