| 2025 | Development of a Segmented Stator with Integrated Oil Cooling of a PMSM Using Additive ManufacturingabstractThe paper deals with development of an FeSi3 additively manufactured (AM) nine-phase radial-flux permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) compact unit with segmented stator core and integrated oil cooling. The analytical design is verified by the Finite element method. Numerical calculations were also used to analyze the cooling oil flow and heat transfer in the cooling axial channels. The proposed concept demonstrates a novel combination of multiphase drive architecture, additive manufacturing, and embedded cooling for next-generation electric drives. | 2022 | Thermal Models of Various PMSM Rotor TopologiesabstractThis paper presents analytical thermal models of 7 different rotors with permanent magnets, which are used as sub-models in universal thermal management software, which is currently being developed at our university. Whole software is created as script in MATLAB interface and is based on equivalent thermal network. For each of the rotor topology is created thermal circuit, which can accurately calculate temperature distribution, and fits into software algorithm. All analytical models are verified by numerical finite element analysis. Martin Skalicky, Roman Pechanek, Lukas Sobotka, Lukas Veg |

| 2021 | Impact of Number of Nodes Used in 3D LPTN on the Results and Computational Time of the PMSM Validated by FEA and MeasurementabstractThermal analysis is one of the key aspects of electrical machine design. This paper presents an analysis of lumped parameter thermal model (LPTM) of the electrical machine. The paper shows a comparison of the different sizes of thermal models. Different quantities of the thermal nodes in the LPTM are analyzed. The main advantage of research is the reduction of the number of thermal nodes in the thermal model which leads to reducing calculating matrices and also reducing computing time. Several modifications of the thermal networks are applied at the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) and that are experimentally validated, also finite element analyses are applied and compared. | 2014 | Design possibilities of multiple-pole cylindrical rotor synchronous machine excitation windingabstractThis article provides design and finite element analyses information of two possibilities of cylindrical rotor synchronous machine excitation winding designs. It is focused especially on multiple-pole synchronous machines, where the presence of higher amount of machine poles reduces amount of available slots for excitation winding, therefore all negative effects are well observable. On these topologies a comparison of design results is accomplished. The comparison includes traditional topology of excitation winding and sine-wave current volume excitation. | 2014 | Determination of critical thermal operation for small squirrel cage motorabstractThe thermal design of small squirrel cage machines is a challenge in comparison with the permanent magnets machines of the same frame size. When designing the machine, the calculated temperatures in all parts should be lower than their critical temperatures. This paper aims to perform thermal analysis for different load types in order to achieve a safe thermal design of the motor. The machine under study in paper is induction motor. Basic dimensions of the stator and the frame are based on the permanent magnet motor. Thermal network method was used for thermal analysis of the machines. Practical measurements for comparison and validation of the existing results should be implemented in future. The paper offer useful practical information for a safe thermal design of induction motor. Paper demonstrates how can be new designed induction motor loads without thermal damaged. The practical significance of the paper is beneficial for the designers of induction motor (IM). Karel Hruska, Vladimír Kindl, Roman Pechanek, Bohumil Skala |

| 2014 | Basic operating characteristics of wireless power transfer system for small portable devicesabstractRecent research in wireless power transfer using resonant inductive coupling has made a significant progress and reached very high efficiency (usually above 85 %) at large distances. This paper offers a methodology for the basic analysis and prediction of efficiency of the wireless power transfer system for small portable devices. It also gives an overview of operating characteristics of the system for different positions of transmitting and receiving elements. All presented theoretical presumptions are consequently verified by detailed measurement. Vladimír Kindl, Tomas Kavalir, Roman Pechanek, Karel Hruska |
