2026 HouseTune: Two-Stage Floorplan Generation with LLM Assistance
abstract
This paper proposes a two-stage text-to-floorplan generation framework that combines the reasoning capability of Large Language Models (LLMs) with the generative power of diffusion models. In the first stage, we leverage a Chain-of-Thought (CoT) prompting strategy to guide an LLM in generating an initial layout, Layout-Init, from natural language descriptions, which ensures a user-friendly and intuitive design process. However, Layout-Init may lack precise geometric alignment and fine-grained structural details due to the inherent limitations of LLMs. To address this, in the second stage we propose a Dual-Noise Prior-Preserved Diffusion (DNPP-Diffusion) model to refine Layout-Init into a final floorplan that better adheres to physical constraints and user requirements. By combining LLMs and a dedicated refining model, our approach is able to generate high-quality floorplans without requiring large-scale domain-specific training data. Experimental results demonstrate its advantages in comparison with state of the art methods, and validate its effectiveness in home design applications.

2026 Taming Learnable Codebook Design and Modulation for Digital Semantic Image Communication
abstract
Semantic communication employs deep learning to transmit semantically meaningful information rather than raw data, thereby improving communication efficiency. To facilitate the adaptation of continuous semantic features to digital transmission systems, vector quantization (VQ) serves as an effective approach for discretizing high-dimensional features into compact codebook indices. However, existing VQ-based systems face a critical dilemma: conventional VQ codebooks demand large index ranges to preserve fidelity, contradicting digital modulation’s need for limited discrete states to ensure noise robustness. To bridge this gap, we design a 2K image transmission framework that jointly considers codebook compactness and transmission robustness. The framework operates in two stages: In Stage 1, we devise MOC-RVQ, a multi-head ordered codebook (MOC) with residual vector quantization (RVQ) to reduce the index range while maintaining image fidelity. In Stage 2, a Swin Transformer-based noise reduction block (NRB) is integrated with feature requantization for further robust restoration. Experiments on 2K-resolution datasets demonstrate that the proposed MOC-RVQ surpasses traditional codecs like BPG, JPEG, and learnable baselines, while maintaining low transmission overhead.

2026 CloseUpShot: Close-Up Novel View Synthesis From Sparse-Views via Point-Conditioned Diffusion Model
abstract
Reconstructing 3D scenes and synthesizing novel views from sparse input views is a highly challenging task. Recent advances in video diffusion models have demonstrated strong temporal reasoning capabilities, making them a promising tool for enhancing reconstruction quality under sparse-view settings. However, existing approaches are primarily designed for modest viewpoint variations, which struggle in capturing fine-grained details in close-up scenarios since input information is severely limited. In this paper, we present a diffusion-based framework, called CloseUpShot, for close-up novel view synthesis from sparse inputs via point-conditioned video diffusion. Specifically, we observe that pixel-warping conditioning suffers from severe sparsity and background leakage in close-up settings. To address this, we propose hierarchical warping and occlusion-aware noise suppression, enhancing the quality and completeness of the conditioning images for the video diffusion model. Furthermore, we introduce global structure guidance, which leverages a dense fused point cloud to provide consistent geometric context to the diffusion process, to compensate for the lack of globally consistent 3D constraints in sparse conditioning inputs. Extensive experiments on multiple datasets demonstrate that our method outperforms existing approaches, especially in close-up novel view synthesis, clearly validating the effectiveness of our design.

2025 PIR: Photometric Inverse Rendering with Shading Cues Modeling and Surface Reflectance Regularization
abstract
This paper addresses the problem of inverse rendering from photometric images. Existing approaches for this problem suffer from the effects of self-shadows, interreflections, and lack of constraints on the surface reflectance, leading to inaccurate decomposition of reflectance and illumination due to the ill-posed nature of inverse rendering. In this work, we propose a new method for neural inverse rendering. Our method jointly optimizes the light source position to account for the self-shadows in images, and computes indirect illumination using a differentiable rendering layer and an importance sampling strategy. To enhance surface reflectance decomposition, we introduce a new regularization by distilling DINO features to foster accurate and consistent material decomposition. Extensive experiments on synthetic and real datasets demonstrate that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in reflectance decomposition.

2025 AniGS: Animatable Gaussian Avatar from a Single Image with Inconsistent Gaussian Reconstruction
abstract
Generating animatable human avatars from a single image is essential for various digital human modeling applications. Existing 3D reconstruction methods often struggle to capture fine details in animatable models, while generative approaches for controllable animation, though avoiding explicit 3D modeling, suffer from viewpoint inconsistencies in extreme poses and computational inefficiencies. In this paper, we address these challenges by leveraging the power of generative models to produce detailed multi-view canonical pose images, which help resolve ambiguities in animatable human reconstruction. We then propose a robust method for 3D reconstruction of inconsistent images, enabling real-time rendering during inference. Specifically, we adapt a transformer-based video generation model to generate multi-view canonical pose images and normal maps, pretraining on a large-scale video dataset to improve generalization. To handle view inconsistencies, we recast the reconstruction problem as a 4D task and introduce an efficient 3D modeling approach using 4D Gaussian Splatting. Experiments demonstrate that our method achieves photorealistic, real-time animation of 3D human avatars from in-the-wild images, showcasing its effectiveness and generalization capability. 2025 Let Them Talk: Audio-Driven Multi-Person Conversational Video Generation
abstract
Audio-driven human animation methods, such as talking head and talking body generation, have made remarkable progress in generating synchronized facial movements and appealing visual quality videos. However, existing methods primarily focus on single human animation and struggle with multi-stream audio inputs, facing incorrect binding problems between audio and persons. Additionally, they exhibit limitations in instruction-following capabilities. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose a novel task: Multi-Person Conversational Video Generation, and introduce a new framework, MultiTalk, to address the challenges during multi-person generation. Specifically, for audio injection, we investigate several schemes and propose the Label Rotary Position Embedding (L-RoPE) method to resolve the audio and person binding problem. Furthermore, during training, we observe that partial parameter training and multi-task training are crucial for preserving the instruction-following ability of the base model. MultiTalk achieves superior performance compared to other methods on several datasets, including talking head, talking body, and multi-person datasets, demonstrating the powerful generation capabilities of our approach.

2024 RichDreamer: A Generalizable Normal-Depth Diffusion Model for Detail Richness in Text-to-3D
abstract
Lifting 2D diffusion for 3D generation is a challenging problem due to the lack of geometric prior and the complex entanglement of materials and lighting in natural images. Existing methods have shown promise by first creating the geometry through score-distillation sampling (SDS) applied to rendered surface normals, followed by appearance modeling. However, relying on a 2D RGB diffusion model to optimize surface normals is suboptimal due to the distribution discrepancy between natural images and normals maps, leading to instability in optimization. In this paper, recognizing that the normal and depth information effectively describe scene geometry and be auto-matically estimated from images, we propose to learn a generalizable Normal-Depth diffusion model for 3D generation. We achieve this by training on the large-scale LAION dataset together with the generalizable image-to-depth and normal prior models. In an attempt to alleviate the mixed illumination effects in the generated materials, we introduce an albedo diffusion model to impose data-driven constraints on the albedo component. Our experiments show that when integrated into existing text-to-3D pipelines, our models significantly enhance the detail richness, achieving state-of-the-art results. 2024 Aerial Lifting: Neural Urban Semantic and Building Instance Lifting from Aerial Imagery
abstract
We present a neural radiance field method for urban-scale semantic and building-level instance segmentation from aerial images by lifting noisy 2D labels to 3D. This is a challenging problem due to two primary reasons. Firstly, objects in urban aerial images exhibit substantial variations in size, including buildings, cars, and roads, which pose a significant challenge for accurate 2D segmentation. Secondly, the 2D labels generated by existing segmentation methods suffer from the multi-view inconsistency problem, especially in the case of aerial images, where each image captures only a small portion of the entire scene. To overcome these limitations, we first introduce a scale-adaptive semantic label fusion strategy that enhances the segmentation of objects of varying sizes by combining labels predicted from different altitudes, harnessing the novel-view synthesis capabilities of NeRF. We then introduce a novel cross-view instance label grouping based on the 3D scene representation to mitigate the multi-view inconsistency problem in the 2D instance labels. Furthermore, we exploit multi-view reconstructed depth priors to improve the geometric quality of the reconstructed radiance field, resulting in enhanced segmentation results. Experiments on multiple real-world urban-scale datasets demonstrate that our approach outperforms existing methods, high-lighting its effectiveness. 2024 MOC-RVQ: Multilevel Codebook-Assisted Digital Generative Semantic Communication
abstract
Vector quantization-based image semantic communication systems have successfully boosted transmission efficiency, but face challenges with conflicting requirements between code-book design and digital constellation modulation. Traditional codebooks need wide index ranges, while modulation favors few discrete states. To address this, we propose a multilevel generative semantic communication system with a two-stage training framework. In the first stage, we train a high-quality codebook, using a multi-head octonary codebook (MOC) to compress the index range. In addition, a residual vector quantization (RVQ) mechanism is also integrated for effective multilevel communication. In the second stage, a noise reduction block (NRB) based on Swin Transformer is introduced, coupled with the multilevel codebook from the first stage, serving as a high-quality semantic knowledge base (SKB) for generative feature restoration. Finally, to simulate modern image transmission scenarios, we employ a diverse collection of high-resolution 2K images as the test set. The experimental results consistently demonstrate the superior performance of MOC-RVQ over conventional methods such as BPG or JPEG. Additionally, MOC-RVQ achieves comparable performance to an analog JSCC scheme, while needing only one-sixth of the channel bandwidth ratio (CBR) and being directly compatible with digital transmission systems.

2024 Channel Knowledge Maps Construction Based on Point Cloud Environment Information
abstract
This work focuses on utilizing point cloud data to enhance the accuracy of channel impulse response (CIR) predictions in channel knowledge maps (CKMs). We propose a method, named Point Selector, which uses a set of co-foci ellipsoids to identify reflection and scattering objects in the point cloud. Then, we employ a PointNet neural network that directly utilizes the point cloud from Point Selector to predict the CIR. To validate our method, we employ a multi-view scene reconstruction technique to obtain the point cloud and collect CIR measurements in the real world. Experiments reveal that the proposed method identifies reflection and scattering objects more accurately, and significantly improves CIR prediction to achieve a root mean squared error of 2.88 dB compared to 8.68 dB by using traditional ray tracing methods.

2023 REC-MV: REconstructing 3D Dynamic Cloth from Monocular Videos
abstract
Reconstructing dynamic 3D garment surfaces with open boundaries from monocular videos is an important problem as it provides a practical and low-cost solution for clothes digitization. Recent neural rendering methods achieve high-quality dynamic clothed human reconstruction results from monocular video, but these methods cannot separate the garment surface from the body. Moreover, despite existing garment reconstruction methods based on feature curve representation demonstrating impressive results for garment reconstruction from a single image, they struggle to generate temporally consistent surfaces for the video input. To address the above limitations, in this paper, we formulate this task as an optimization problem of 3D garment feature curves and surface reconstruction from monocular video. We introduce a novel approach, called REC-MV, to jointly optimize the explicit feature curves and the implicit signed distance field (SDF) of the garments. Then the open garment meshes can be extracted via garment template registration in the canonical space. Experiments on multiple casually captured datasets show that our approach outperforms existing methods and can produce high-quality dynamic garment surfaces. 2023 MVImgNet: A Large-scale Dataset of Multi-view Images
abstract
Being data-driven is one of the most iconic properties of deep learning algorithms. The birth of ImageNet [24] drives a remarkable trend of ‘learning from large-scale data’ in computer vision. Pretraining on ImageNet to obtain rich universal representations has been manifested to benefit various 2D visual tasks, and becomes a standard in 2D vision. However, due to the laborious collection of real-world 3D data, there is yet no generic dataset serving as a counterpart of ImageNet in 3D vision, thus how such a dataset can impact the 3D community is unraveled. To remedy this defect, we introduce MVImgNet, a large-scale dataset of multi-view images, which is highly convenient to gain by shooting videos of real-world objects in human daily life. It contains 6.5 million frames from 219,188 videos crossing objects from 238 classes, with rich annotations of object masks, camera parameters, and point clouds. The multi-view attribute endows our dataset with 3D-aware signals, making it a soft bridge between 2D and 3D vision. We conduct pilot studies for probing the potential of MVImgNet on a variety of 3D and 2D visual tasks, including radiance field reconstruction, multi-view stereo, and view-consistent image understanding, where MVImgNet demonstrates promising performance, remaining lots of possibilities for future explorations. Besides, via dense reconstruction on MVImgNet, a 3D object point cloud dataset is derived, called MVPNet, covering 87,200 samples from 150 categories, with the class label on each point cloud. Experiments show that MVP-Net can benefit the real-world 3D object classification while posing new challenges to point cloud understanding. MVImgNet and MVPNet will be public, hoping to inspire the broader vision community.

2023 Forward Flow for Novel View Synthesis of Dynamic Scenes
abstract
This paper proposes a neural radiance field (NeRF) approach for novel view synthesis of dynamic scenes using forward warping. Existing methods often adopt a static NeRF to represent the canonical space, and render dynamic images at other time steps by mapping the sampled 3D points back to the canonical space with the learned backward flow field. However, this backward flow field is non-smooth and discontinuous, which is difficult to be fitted by commonly used smooth motion models. To address this problem, we propose to estimate the forward flow field and directly warp the canonical radiance field to other time steps. Such forward flow field is smooth and continuous within the object region, which benefits the motion model learning. To achieve this goal, we represent the canonical radiance field with voxel grids to enable efficient forward warping, and propose a differentiable warping process, including an average splatting operation and an inpaint network, to resolve the many-to-one and one-to-many mapping issues. Thorough experiments show that our method outperforms existing methods in both novel view rendering and motion modeling, demonstrating the effectiveness of our forward flow motion modeling. 2023 Non-Lambertian Multispectral Photometric Stereo via Spectral Reflectance Decomposition
abstract
Multispectral photometric stereo (MPS) aims at recovering the surface normal of a scene from a single-shot multispectral image captured under multispectral illuminations. Existing MPS methods adopt the Lambertian reflectance model to make the problem tractable, but it greatly limits their application to real-world surfaces. In this paper, we propose a deep neural network named NeuralMPS to solve the MPS problem under non-Lambertian spectral reflectances. Specifically, we present a spectral reflectance decomposition model to disentangle the spectral reflectance into a geometric component and a spectral component. With this decomposition, we show that the MPS problem for surfaces with a uniform material is equivalent to the conventional photometric stereo (CPS) with unknown light intensities. In this way, NeuralMPS reduces the difficulty of the non-Lambertian MPS problem by leveraging the well-studied non-Lambertian CPS methods. Experiments on both synthetic and real-world scenes demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.

2023 Deep Face Video Inpainting via UV Mapping
abstract
This paper addresses the problem of face video inpainting. Existing video inpainting methods target primarily at natural scenes with repetitive patterns. They do not make use of any prior knowledge of the face to help retrieve correspondences for the corrupted face. They therefore only achieve sub-optimal results, particularly for faces under large pose and expression variations where face components appear very differently across frames. In this paper, we propose a two-stage deep learning method for face video inpainting. We employ 3DMM as our 3D face prior to transform a face between the image space and the UV (texture) space. In Stage I, we perform face inpainting in the UV space. This helps to largely remove the influence of face poses and expressions and makes the learning task much easier with well aligned face features. We introduce a frame-wise attention module to fully exploit correspondences in neighboring frames to assist the inpainting task. In Stage II, we transform the inpainted face regions back to the image space and perform face video refinement that inpaints any background regions not covered in Stage I and also refines the inpainted face regions. Extensive experiments have been carried out which show our method can significantly outperform methods based merely on 2D information, especially for faces under large pose and expression variations. 2022 JIFF: Jointly-aligned Implicit Face Function for High Quality Single View Clothed Human Reconstruction
abstract
This paper addresses the problem of single view 3D human reconstruction. Recent implicit function based methods have shown impressive results, but they fail to recover fine face details in their reconstructions. This largely degrades user experience in applications like 3D telepresence. In this paper, we focus on improving the quality of face in the reconstruction and propose a novel Jointly-aligned Implicit Face Function (JIFF) that combines the merits of the implicit function based approach and model based approach. We employ a 3D morphable face model as our shape prior and compute space-aligned 3D features that capture detailed face geometry information. Such space-aligned 3D features are combined with pixel-aligned 2D features to jointly predict an implicit face function for high quality face reconstruction. We further extend our pipeline and introduce a coarse-to-fine architecture to predict high quality texture for our detailed face model. Extensive evaluations have been carried out on public datasets and our proposed JIFF has demonstrates superior performance (both quantitatively and qualitatively) over existing state-of-the-arts.

2022 ETHSeg: An Amodel Instance Segmentation Network and a Real-world Dataset for X-Ray Waste Inspection
abstract
Waste inspection for packaged waste is an important step in the pipeline of waste disposal. Previous methods either rely on manual visual checking or RGB image-based inspection algorithm, requiring costly preparation procedures (e.g., open the bag and spread the waste items). Moreover, occluded items are very likely to be left out. Inspired by the fact that X-ray has a strong penetrating power to see through the bag and overlapping objects, we propose to perform waste inspection efficiently using X-ray images without the need to open the bag. We introduce a novel problem of instance-level waste segmentation in X-ray image for intelligent waste inspection, and contribute a real dataset consisting of 5,038 X-ray images (totally 30,881 waste items) with high-quality annotations (i.e., waste categories, object boxes, and instance-level masks) as a benchmark for this problem. As existing segmentation methods are mainly designed for natural images and cannot take advantage of the characteristics of X-ray waste images (e.g., heavy occlusions and penetration effect), we propose a new instance segmentation method to explicitly take these image characteristics into account. Specifically, our method adopts an easy-to-hard disassembling strategy to use high confidence predictions to guide the segmentation of highly overlapped objects, and a global structure guidance module to better capture the complex contour information caused by the penetration effect. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Our dataset is released at WIXRayNet.

2022 S3-NeRF: Neural Reflectance Field from Shading and Shadow under a Single Viewpoint
abstract
In this paper, we address the "dual problem" of multi-view scene reconstruction in which we utilize single-view images captured under different point lights to learn a neural scene representation. Different from existing single-view methods which can only recover a 2.5D scene representation (i.e., a normal / depth map for the visible surface), our method learns a neural reflectance field to represent the 3D geometry and BRDFs of a scene. Instead of relying on multi-view photo-consistency, our method exploits two information-rich monocular cues, namely shading and shadow, to infer scene geometry. Experiments on multiple challenging datasets show that our method is capable of recovering 3D geometry, including both visible and invisible parts, of a scene from single-view images. Thanks to the neural reflectance field representation, our method is robust to depth discontinuities. It supports applications like novel-view synthesis and relighting. 2022 Deep Photometric Stereo for Non-Lambertian Surfaces
abstract
This paper addresses the problem of photometric stereo, in both calibrated and uncalibrated scenarios, for non-Lambertian surfaces based on deep learning. We first introduce a fully convolutional deep network for calibrated photometric stereo, which we call PS-FCN. Unlike traditional approaches that adopt simplified reflectance models to make the problem tractable, our method directly learns the mapping from reflectance observations to surface normal, and is able to handle surfaces with general and unknown isotropic reflectance. At test time, PS-FCN takes an arbitrary number of images and their associated light directions as input and predicts a surface normal map of the scene in a fast feed-forward pass. To deal with the uncalibrated scenario where light directions are unknown, we introduce a new convolutional network, named LCNet, to estimate light directions from input images. The estimated light directions and the input images are then fed to PS-FCN to determine the surface normals. Our method does not require a pre-defined set of light directions and can handle multiple images in an order-agnostic manner. Thorough evaluation of our approach on both synthetic and real datasets shows that it outperforms state-of-the-art methods in both calibrated and uncalibrated scenarios.

2021 HDR Video Reconstruction: A Coarse-to-fine Network and A Real-world Benchmark Dataset
abstract
High dynamic range (HDR) video reconstruction from sequences captured with alternating exposures is a very challenging problem. Existing methods often align low dynamic range (LDR) input sequence in the image space using optical flow, and then merge the aligned images to produce HDR output. However, accurate alignment and fusion in the image space are difficult due to the missing details in the over-exposed regions and noise in the under-exposed regions, resulting in unpleasing ghosting artifacts. To enable more accurate alignment and HDR fusion, we introduce a coarse-to-fine deep learning framework for HDR video reconstruction. Firstly, we perform coarse alignment and pixel blending in the image space to estimate the coarse HDR video. Secondly, we conduct more sophisticated alignment and temporal fusion in the feature space of the coarse HDR video to produce better reconstruction. Considering the fact that there is no publicly available dataset for quantitative and comprehensive evaluation of HDR video reconstruction methods, we collect such a benchmark dataset, which contains 97 sequences of static scenes and 184 testing pairs of dynamic scenes. Extensive experiments show that our method outperforms previous state-of-the-art methods. Our code and dataset can be found at https://guanyingc.github.io/DeepHDRVideo.

2019 Self-Calibrating Deep Photometric Stereo Networks
abstract
This paper proposes an uncalibrated photometric stereo method for non-Lambertian scenes based on deep learning. Unlike previous approaches that heavily rely on assumptions of specific reflectances and light source distributions, our method is able to determine both shape and light directions of a scene with unknown arbitrary reflectances observed under unknown varying light directions. To achieve this goal, we propose a two-stage deep learning architecture, called SDPS-Net, which can effectively take advantage of intermediate supervision, resulting in reduced learning difficulty compared to a single-stage model. Experiments on both synthetic and real datasets show that our proposed approach significantly outperforms previous uncalibrated photometric stereo methods.

2018 TOM-Net: Learning Transparent Object Matting From a Single Image
abstract
This paper addresses the problem of transparent object matting. Existing image matting approaches for transparent objects often require tedious capturing procedures and long processing time, which limit their practical use. In this paper, we first formulate transparent object matting as a refractive flow estimation problem. We then propose a deep learning framework, called TOM-Net, for learning the refractive flow. Our framework comprises two parts, namely a multi-scale encoder-decoder network for producing a coarse prediction, and a residual network for refinement. At test time, TOM-Net takes a single image as input, and outputs a matte (consisting of an object mask, an attenuation mask and a refractive flow field) in a fast feed-forward pass. As no off-the-shelf dataset is available for transparent object matting, we create a large-scale synthetic dataset consisting of 178K images of transparent objects rendered in front of images sampled from the Microsoft COCO dataset. We also collect a real dataset consisting of 876 samples using 14 transparent objects and 60 background images. Promising experimental results have been achieved on both synthetic and real data, which clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.
