| 2025 | Reveal Object in Lensless Photography via Region Gaze and AmplificationabstractDetecting concealed objects, such as in vivo lesions or camouflage, requires customized imaging systems. Lensless cameras, being compact and flexible, offer a promising alternative to bulky lens systems. However, the absence of lenses leads to measurements lacking visual semantics, posing significant challenges for concealed object detection (COD). To tackle this issue, we propose a region gaze-amplification network (RGANet) for progressively exploiting concealed objects from lensless imaging measurements. Specifically, a region gaze module (RGM) is proposed to mine spatial-frequency cues informed by biological and psychological mechanisms, and a region amplifier (RA) is designed to amplify the details of object regions to enhance COD performance. Furthermore, we contribute the first relevant dataset as a benchmark to prosper the lensless imaging community. Extensive experiments demonstrate the exciting performance of our method. Our codes will be released in \url{https://github.com/YXJ-NTU/Lensless-COD}. Xiangjun Yin, HuiHui Yue |

| 2025 | The Photoacoustic Quality-Enhancement Neural Network Processor with the Scalable and End-to-End Architecture by Improving the Sparsity LevelabstractRecent advancements have marked significant progress in photoacoustic imaging as an effective method for acquiring deep bio-tissue visuals in modern medical clinical therapy and the efficacy of U-Net and its variants has been established for imaging quality enhancement in this field. Unlike common computer vision datasets such as ImageNet [1] and PASCAL VOC [2], biomedical images exhibit highly structured patterns, low spatial resolution, and single-channel modality, as shown in Fig. 1. Additionally, the U-Net parameters trained for medical super-resolution tasks demonstrate a high sparsity ratio, making them suitable for implementation on edge-computing platforms. Therefore, developing an energy-efficient photoacoustic imaging setup in this area is a natural progression. However, this development is constrained by the current neural network architectures, which are built around a U-Net backbone. The multi-stage feature extractor, skip connection integration across different blocks, and the encoder-decoder backbone design pose significant challenges to cutting-edge computational hardware platforms. In this study, a scalable, sparsity-supported neural network accelerator architecture for bio-tissue imaging quality enhancement is proposed to meet the stringent requirements of latency and energy efficiency, as depicted in Fig. 2. This architecture achieves desired performance improvements by exploring the sparsity possibilities in neural network during the training process and implementing an end-to-end pixel-first hardware design to minimize data movement and support sparsity computation. Compared with the state-of-the-art related works, this optimized architecture has achieved minimum on-chip storage overhead and the fastest frame for the application of photoacoustic imaging quality enhancement. The scalable architecture has also been implemented on a Xilinx XCZU9EG FPGA and attains a performance of PSNR@ 24 dB and a frame rate of 164 fps at a working frequency of 250 MHz. | 2024 | LPSNet: End-to-End Human Pose and Shape Estimation with Lensless ImagingabstractHuman pose and shape (HPS) estimation with lensless imaging is not only beneficial to privacy protection but also can be used in covert surveillance scenarios due to the small size and simple structure of this device. However, this task presents significant challenges due to the inherent ambiguity of the captured measurements and lacks effective methods for directly estimating human pose and shape from lensless data. In this paper, we propose the first end-to-end framework to recover 3D human poses and shapes from lensless measurements to our knowledge. We specifically design a multi-scale lensless feature decoder to decode the lensless measurements through the optically encoded mask for efficient feature extraction. We also propose a double-head auxiliary supervision mechanism to improve the estimation accuracy of human limb ends. Besides, we establish a lensless imaging system and verify the effectiveness of our method on various datasets acquired by our lensless imaging system. | 2024 | Virtual Scanning: Unsupervised Non-line-of-sight Imaging from Irregularly Undersampled TransientsabstractNon-line-of-sight (NLOS) imaging allows for seeing hidden scenes around corners through active sensing.
Most previous algorithms for NLOS reconstruction require dense transients acquired through regular scans over a large relay surface, which limits their applicability in realistic scenarios with irregular relay surfaces.
In this paper, we propose an unsupervised learning-based framework for NLOS imaging from irregularly undersampled transients~(IUT).
Our method learns implicit priors from noisy irregularly undersampled transients without requiring paired data, which is difficult and expensive to acquire and align.
To overcome the ambiguity of the measurement consistency constraint in inferring the albedo volume, we design a virtual scanning process that enables the network to learn within both range and null spaces for high-quality reconstruction.
We devise a physics-guided SURE-based denoiser to enhance robustness to ubiquitous noise in low-photon imaging conditions.
Extensive experiments on both simulated and real-world data validate the performance and generalization of our method.
Compared with the state-of-the-art (SOTA) method, our method achieves higher fidelity, greater robustness, and remarkably faster inference times by orders of magnitude.

| 2024 | Salient Object Detection Toward Single-Pixel ImagingabstractReplacing CCD and CMOS image sensors in conventional cameras with digital micromirror devices (DMD), single-pixel cameras low-costly shot images by capturing compressed measurements and computation. However, the compressed measurements lack explicit spatial information, causing difficulties for high-level tasks such as salient object detection (SOD) that are usually designed to have visual inputs. To address the issue, we propose a single-pixel imaging-based SOD network called SPISODNet that enables predicting saliency maps directly from compressed measurements with high accuracy. Specifically, we first design an underlying feature inversion module (UFIM) to capture the underlying scene information, and then develop a context-aware flow (CAF) consisting of a feature focus module (FFM), three bidirectional attention modules (BAMs), and a spatial information-induced attention module (SIAM) to acquire and polish saliency predictions. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves superior performance for single-pixel imaging-based SOD. HuiHui Yue, Jichang Guo, Xiangjun Yin, Yi Zhang 0107, Bihan Wen, Chongyi Li |

| 2023 | Deep Label Prior: Pre-Training-Free Salient Object Detection Network Based on Label LearningabstractDue to the excellent semantics extraction capabilities, deep learning methods have significantly progressed in salient object detection (SOD). However, these methods often require time-consuming pre-training and large training datasets with ground truth. To address these issues, by referring to the framework known as “deep image prior (DIP),” we propose a SOD method called deep label prior network (DLPNet), which consists of$\mathcal A$-stream and$\mathcal B$-stream. The$\mathcal A$-stream includes two cascaded UNets and a simple CNNs module to extract the initial saliency map, while the$\mathcal B$-stream contains only two cascaded UNets, which refines the extracted initial saliency map. Unlike most of the current deep learning methods, DLPNet views the SOD task as a conditional image generation problem, relying on only the internal prior of the input itself to generate the saliency map. Hence, our DLPNet does not require pre-training or large annotated / unannotated datasets. Furthermore, we propose a morphology operation scheme, which creates rich pseudo-labels for facilitating the updating of network weights. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms state-of-the-art unsupervised techniques and is even comparable to state-of-the-art supervised and weakly supervised methods on different evaluation metrics.
