Applying health belief model to explore the adoption of telecareabstractThe purpose of the study is to integrate Self Efficacy with the Health Belief Model in order to explore the usage intention model of Telecare systems. The proposed framework is validated with respondents from Nantou County, which is located in Taiwan. This study emphasizes that hospital managers should pay more attention to understanding the five concepts of health belief of elderly (Perceived Susceptibility, Perceived Severity, Perceived Benefits, Perceived Barriers and Cues to Action), and improving Self Efficacy of elderly. We adopted the questionnaire survey for data collection, and examined our hypotheses by applying the structural equation modeling (SEM) method to validate the model. The integrative viewpoint implies that a successful telecare system is not only an information system but also a medical service provider/department to the patients/residents. The findings may be used as a theoretical basis for future research and can also offer empirical foresight to the executives and managers of hospitals when they initially introduce and promote the telecare systems into their surrounding community. | 2013 | A study on the consumer adoption behaviors of Internet BankabstractBase on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), the purpose of this study was to examine the influencing factors of the adoption of the financial services of Internet Bank. The proposed research model was validated with 371 respondents from nine domestic banks' customers in Taiwan. The findings of this study revealed that the prominent antecedents include Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, Social Influence, and Perceived Risk. Most hypotheses of the study proposed are well supported by the empirical results. Furthermore, the proposed model can account for the variation of intention of use and usage behavior well enough. The results also showed that gender, age, and experience possessed moderating effects among antecedents and outcome variable. The findings may be used as theoretical base for future research and offer empirical foresight to managers of organizations in assessing and evaluating the performance of the Internet Bank. | 2012 | A novel parallel H.264 decoder using dynamic load balance on dual core embedded systemabstractThe dual-core environment is more and more popular in embedded system recently. The limited buffer and limited bandwidth are critical for parallel algorithm in embedded system. This paper proposes a novel parallel algorithm using functional partitioning with dynamic load balance for video decoder. The video decoding flow of each macroblock is dynamically separated for different cores according to the buffer queue level. The extra intercommunication buffer size requires only 1.6% buffer size of traditional data partitioning algorithm for 720p decoder. The speed-up ratio is 1.74 times in average compared to original single thread code. The experiment result shows the proposed algorithm can real-time decode H.264 720p high profile on ARM Cortex-A9 400MHz dual-core system. Ding-Yun Chen, Chen-Tsai Ho, Chi-Cheng Ju, Chung-Hung Tsai

Area and Memory Efficient Architectures for 3D Blu-ray-compliant Multimedia ProcessorsabstractA 3D Blu-ray-compliant multimedia processor integrating video decoder, display and graphic engines is presented. To cope with the bandwidth/cost-starved Blu-ray system, this design exploits the time-sharing techniques, leading to 31.3% and 29.1% of area reduction in display and decoder parts. Moreover, a graphic and on-screen-display hardwired handshake effectively reduces the DRAM space by 40%. A smart graphic command removal eliminates the redundant memory accesses by 14%. For 3D Blu-ray playback requirements, stereo full-HD video decoding, 24Hz display, and stereoscopic graphic UI are realized under the frequency of 333MHz, 148MHz, and 333MHz, respectively. This test chip is fabricated in 40nm CMOS process with core area of 3.92mm2and power dissipation of 124.1mW. | 2012 | Applying the Technology Acceptance Model to Explore Intention to Use Telecare System in TaiwanabstractThis purpose of the study is to develop the usage intention model of Telecare systems. Based on the Technology Acceptance Model, the proposed framework is validated with 365 respondents from Nantou County located in Taiwan, which shows that both perceived ease of use, and perceived usefulness are key factors affecting the intention to use telecare system. According to the statistical results, the proposed model fits very well for the samples. In other words, perceived ease of use, and perceived usefulness will affect simultaneously behavioral intention in telecare system. This study emphasizes that the managers of hospitals and designers of telecare system companies should pay more attention to understanding the perceptions of elderly (or patients) and improving the system and information quality of the system. Therefore, successful telecare systems not only provide robust system quality of information systems, but also delivery reliable information quality of health cares. | 2012 | A Study on the Using Behavior of Depot-Logistic Information System in Taiwan: An Integration of Satisfaction Theory and Technology Acceptance TheoryabstractThe Depot-Logistic Information Management System (DLIMS) is aimed to provide the Air Force logistics staff of all sectors with an information technology platform for convenience of management, supervision, aircraft maintenance, along with supply operations. The DLIMS in Taiwan has been established for more than 10 years. However, it has not been evaluated for its effectiveness. This study integrates service quality into Wixom and Todd (2005) model to evaluate the effectiveness of the DLIMS. A survey of 273 users of DLIMS was conducted to validate the proposed model. The research results show that the overall goodness-of-fit indices indicate a reasonable fit of the model and data. This study emphasizes the importance of integration of satisfaction theory and technology acceptance theory to comprehensively illustrate the effectiveness of DLIMS. The integrative viewpoint implies that DLIMS is not only a logistic information system but also a service provider to the Air Force. Accordingly, the professional staff officers IS department, logistics sectors and headquarters should value simultaneously object-based functions and service quality, in order to improve users¡¦ satisfaction, which in turn can promote users¡¦ behavioral beliefs and usage intention. The findings can be a reference for the Air Force logistics sectors to make policies as well as be a basis for evaluation of success and acceptance of military-related information system. | 2010 | Land subsidence analysis and inundation prediction based on multi-temporal digital elevation model dataabstractBecause large amount of ground water have been excessively withdrawn within the lowlands along the southwestern area in Taiwan, the land subsidence becomes a serious problem that property damages and life losses in the subsidence area will be caused by the poor drainage and serious flooding arise during the periods of typhoon and heavy rainfall. Therefore, how to monitor and analyze the land subsidence effectively will be an important study issue. In this study, many kinds of geospatial information are firstly collected and analyzed for subsidence monitoring. The error adjustment of the multi-temporal Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) data is implemented using the Least Squares Collocation (LSC) method proposed in our previous research works. Then the HEC-RAS and FLO-2D models are used to simulate the flood hazards to test the performance of the LSC adjustment method. The results are also used to analyze the influence of the land subsidence for flood hazards. Pai-Hui Hsu, Wen-Ray Su, Chung-Hung Tsai

Using MODIS-based Vegetation and Moisture Indices for Oasis Landscape Monitoring in an Arid EnvironmentabstractNormalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Normalized Difference Moisture Index (NDMI) were compared for an oasis ecosystem in an arid environment. Both indices were computed from 500 m spatial resolution Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) reflectance data (8-day composite from 193 to 200) for the period from 2001 to 2008. NDMI were positively correlated with NDVI. R2values ranging between 0.80 to 0.92. The results indicated that the vegetation dynamics have highly correlated with land surface moisture in an arid environment. | 2004 | Verifying Web Applications Using Bounded Model CheckingabstractThe authors describe the use of bounded model checking (BMC) for verifying Web application code. Vulnerable sections of code are patched automatically with runtime guards, allowing both verification and assurance to occur without user intervention. Model checking techniques are relatively complex compared to the typestate-based polynomial-time algorithm (TS) we adopted in an earlier paper, but they offer three benefits - they provide counterexamples, more precise models, and sound and complete verification. Compared to conventional model checking techniques, BMC offers a more practical approach to verifying programs containing large numbers of variables, but requires fixed program diameters to be complete. Formalizing Web application vulnerabilities as a secure information flow problem with fixed diameter allows for BMC application without drawback. Using BMC-produced counterexamples, errors that result from propagations of the same initial error can be reported as a single group rather than individually. This offers two distinct benefits. First, together with the counterexamples themselves, they allow for more descriptive and precise error reports. Second, it allows for automated patching at locations where errors are initially introduced rather than at locations where the propagated errors cause problems. Results from a TS-BMC comparison test using 230 open-source Web applications showed a 41.0% decrease in runtime instrumentations when BMC was used. In the 38 vulnerable projects identified by TS, BMC classified the TS-reported 980 individual errors into 578 groups, with each group requiring a minimal set of patches for repair. | 2004 | Non-Detrimental Web Application Security ScanningabstractThe World Wide Web has become a sophisticated platform capable of delivering a broad range of applications. However, its rapid growth has resulted in numerous security problems that current technologies cannot address. Researchers from both academic and private sector are devoting a considerable amount of resources to the development of Web application security scanners (i.e., automated software testing platforms for Web application security auditing) with some success. However, little is known about their potential side effects. It is possible for an auditing process to induce permanent changes in an application's state. Due to this potential, we have so far avoided large-scale empirical evaluations of our Web Application Vulnerability and Error Scanner (WAVES). we introduce a testing methodology that allows for harmless auditing, define three testing modes - heavy, relaxed, and safe modes, and report our results from two experiments. In the first, we compared the coverage and side effects of the three scanning modes using 5 real-world Web applications chosen from the 38 found vulnerable in a previous static verification effort. In the second, we used the relaxed mode to conduct a 48-hour test involving 1120 random Web sites, of which 55 were found to be vulnerable. Yao-Wen Huang, Chung-Hung Tsai, D. T. Lee, Sy-Yen Kuo

Securing web application code by static analysis and runtime protectionabstractSecurity remains a major roadblock to universal acceptance of the Web for many kinds of transactions, especially since the recent sharp increase in remotely exploitable vulnerabilities have been attributed to Web application bugs. Many verification tools are discovering previously unknown vulnerabilities in legacy C programs, raising hopes that the same success can be achieved with Web applications. In this paper, we describe a sound and holistic approach to ensuring Web application security. Viewing Web application vulnerabilities as a secure information flow problem, we created a lattice-based static analysis algorithm derived from type systems and typestate, and addressed its soundness. During the analysis, sections of code considered vulnerable are instrumented with runtime guards, thus securing Web applications in the absence of user intervention. With sufficient annotations, runtime overhead can be reduced to zero. We also created a tool named.WebSSARI (Web application Security by Static Analysis and Runtime Inspection) to test our algorithm, and used it to verify 230 open-source Web application projects on SourceForge.net, which were selected to represent projects of different maturity, popularity, and scale. 69 contained vulnerabilities. After notifying the developers, 38 acknowledged our findings and stated their plans to provide patches. Our statistics also show that static analysis reduced potential runtime overhead by 98.4%. | 2003 | Web application security assessment by fault injection and behavior monitoringabstractAs a large and complex application platform, the World Wide Web is capable of delivering a broad range of sophisticated applications. However, many Web applications go through rapid development phases with extremely short turnaround time, making it difficult to eliminate vulnerabilities. Here we analyze the design of Web application security assessment mechanisms in order to identify poor coding practices that render Web applications vulnerable to attacks such as SQL injection and cross-site scripting. We describe the use of a number of software-testing techniques (including dynamic analysis, black-box testing, fault injection, and behavior monitoring), and suggest mechanisms for applying these techniques to Web applications. Real-world situations are used to test a tool we named the Web Application Vulnerability and Error Scanner (WAVES, an open-source project available at http://waves.sourceforge.net) and to compare it with other tools. Our results show that WAVES is a feasible platform for assessing Web application security. Yao-Wen Huang, Shih-Kun Huang, Tsung-Po Lin, Chung-Hung Tsai

Hierarchical system test by an IEEE 1149.5 MTM-bus slave-module interface coreabstractAn IEEE 1149.5 module test and maintenance (MTM) bus slave module interface core is presented, which is used for direct access from the system bus to the IEEE 1149.1 chip-level or on-chip buses to facilitate hierarchical system test and diagnosis. The hierarchical test methodology also is presented, which is applicable to the system-on-chip environment, All the standard 1149.1 instructions, such as SAMPLE/PRELOAD, EXTEST, BYPASS, and even RUNBIST, can be performed within three 1149.5 read/write-data message cycles. The messages are transmitted between the MTM-bus master module (Ill-module) and the slave module (S-module). We adopt the full test access port control method to activate the 1149.1 boundary-scan paths via the 1149.5 MTM-bus. Our S-module interface circuit implements 16 CORE commands and one read/write-data command. It has been prototyped using a field-programmable gate array chip and implemented by a full-custom chip. Hierarchical test of multiple 1149.1 compatible boards has been experimentally verified. Jin-Hua Hong, Chung-Hung Tsai, Cheng-Wen Wu
