2019 Mapper Based Classifier
abstract
Topological data analysis aims to extract topological quantities from data, which tend to focus on the broader global structure of the data rather than local information. The Mapper method, specifically, generalizes clustering methods to identify significant global mathematical structures, which are out of reach of many other approaches. We propose a classifier based on applying the Mapper algorithm to data projected onto a latent space. We obtain the latent space by using PCA or autoencoders. Notably, a classifier based on the Mapper method is immune to any gradient based attack, and improves robustness over traditional CNNs. We report theoretical justification and some numerical experiments that confirm our claims.

2017 Cognitive approach to support dynamic aging compensation
abstract
This paper shows new insights on the stochastic nature of aging-related timing impact in digital circuits. Varying critical paths through aging trigger the need for aging compensation control loop based on an unsupervised machine learning algorithm. Adaptive Resonance Theory (ART) algorithm is favored for its ability to handle the stability-plasticity dilemma.

2008 The top 10 greatest screen legends and what their definitive roles demonstrate about management and organizational behaviour
abstract
Those interested in using multimedia films for the purpose of illustrating, critiquing and even correcting behaviour in organizations face a daunting array of choices from training films to television to full length movies. The authors suggest that the top screen ‘legends’ of Hollywood and their definitive roles should be considered as an alternative for accomplishing this task. To assist in this endeavour, a table is constructed summarizing the top legends based on a recent survey conducted by the American Film Institute. In this paper the ‘best films’ are specified. Links from the literature on organizational behaviour and management are provided and an application is given.

2008 The role of perceived enjoyment and social norm in the adoption of technology with network externalities
abstract
The emergence of highly interactive media and the increased connectivity among people call for an investigation of usage behaviour of those media. People tend to rely heavily on peer-to-peer interaction influencing the adoption of new media formats that enhance this interactivity. The first explorative phase of this research consists of interviews with experts and focus groups and builds the basis of the proposed framework and measurement model. Then, a Structural Equation Modelling approach is used to assess the relative importance and the strength between different constructs, including perceived enjoyment, social norm, usefulness, ease of use and intention to use. The results indicate that perceived enjoyment and social norm are important antecedents for the adoption of technology with network externalities.

2001 Towards demystification of direct manipulation: cognitive modeling charts the gulf of execution
abstract
Direct manipulation involves a large number of interacting psychological mechanisms that make the performance of a given interface hard to predict on intuitive or informal grounds. This paper applies cognitive modeling to explain the subtle effects produced by using a keypad versus a touchscreen in a performance-critical laboratory task.

1995 Moving towards ATM: LAN/WAN evolution and experimentation at the University of Oregon
abstract
Between April of 1994 and March of 1995 the University of Oregon worked with US WEST and a number of other participants in an extensive technical trial of ATM equipment and services. The paper shares experiences and lessons learned during that trial. A primary area of emphasis during the trial was a complex mixture of ATM LAN and WAN capabilities. ATM connectivity was extended to high-end desktop workstations as well as to routers which were located at participating institutions across Western Oregon. IP networking was stressed along with a mixture of ATM PVCs and SVCs, both local and remote. This was accomplished within an environment which combined high-end routers and customer-owned ATM switches from two different vendors at the local level with public ATM services provided by US WEST over the wide area. In addition, existing legacy LANs were also supported. This unique combination of legacy LANs, ATM LANs/WANs, IP networking, and ATM SVCs/PVCs placed the University of Oregon at the leading edge of these activities during 1994 and early 1995. This paper discusses the evolution of local networking capabilities at the University of Oregon over the past decade which led to the current need for ATM connectivity over the local and wide area. It then describes the related trial activities which were performed in the area of ATM LANs, WANs, PVCs and SVCs within the IP-based environment at the University of Oregon.
