2026 From log-likelihood to probability-likelihood: A novel approach to enhancing classification performance by in-depth Bayesian inference
abstract
Bayesian Network Classifiers (BNCs) graphically model the probabilistic relationships among variables in the form of a directed acyclic graph (DAG). The log-likelihood function is commonly applied to evaluate the fit of DAG to data, and the significance of dependencies in DAG is measured by information metrics rather than probability metrics. However, the fit to data and the significance of dependencies may not hold from the perspective of probability theory. To address this issue, in this paper we propose to apply probability-likelihood function to provide a comprehensive and fundamental description of the mapping relationship between BNCs and data. Based on this, a heuristic search technique is introduced to construct a maximum probability-likelihood spanning tree by allowing for in-depth Bayesian inference of the probabilistic (in)dependence between attributes. Furthermore, instance-based learning is applied to enhance the interpretability and advance the classification capabilities of the learned BNCs in various domains and applications. Case analysis in the field of water quality monitoring shows that the proposed Average Weighted Bayesian Classifier (AWBC) can not only achieve accurate classification of water quality grades, but also fully capture and express the complex inherent dependence relationships among various water quality variables. Experimental evaluations conducted on 30 benchmark datasets from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Machine Learning Repository demonstrate that, the final BNCs deliver superior or comparable classification performance compared to other BNC learners.

2026 Listening for "You": Enhancing Speech Image Retrieval via Target Speaker Extraction
abstract
Image retrieval using spoken language cues has emerged as a promising direction in multimodal perception, yet leveraging speech in multi-speaker scenarios remains challenging. We propose a novel Target Speaker Speech-Image Retrieval task and a framework that learns the relationship between images and multi-speaker speech signals in the presence of a target speaker. Our method integrates pre-trained self-supervised audio encoders with vision models via target speaker-aware contrastive learning, conditioned on a Target Speaker Retrieval Extractor (TSRE) module. This method enables the extraction of semantic content from the target speaker's speech and aligns it with images representing the corresponding semantic meaning. Experiments on SpokenCOCO2Mix and SpokenCOCO3Mix show that TSRE significantly outperforms existing methods, achieving 36.3% and 29.9% Recall@1 in 2- and 3-speaker scenarios, respectively-substantial improvements over single-speaker baselines and state-of-the-art models. Our approach demonstrates potential for real-world deployment in assistive robotics and multimodal interaction systems.

2026 Pseudo Sentences Evaluation and Quality-Aware Robust Learning for Unsupervised Text-Based Person Search
abstract
Unsupervised Text-Based Person Search (TBPS) eliminates the need for costly manual sentence annotations by generating pseudo sentences via Multi-modal Large Language Models (MLLMs). However, these pseudo sentences often face the quality defect issues, resulting in semantic misalignment across modalities, which will hinder discriminative representation learning. To address this problem, we propose the PSE-QRL (Pseudo Sentences Evaluation and Quality-aware Robust Learning), a unified framework that enhances robustness to pseudo sentences for unsupervised TBPS. The PSE-QRL dynamically couples an evolving TBPS model with MLLMs to assess pseudo sentences' reliability, and adaptively leverages high-quality ones during training. It consists of three key components: 1) Multi-granularity Sentence Augmentation, for enriching pseudo sentences with multiple granularities to broaden the diversity of image-sentence pairs; 2) Hybrid Quality Evaluation, to combine MLLM's cross-modal reasoning knowledge with TBPS model's person-specific distinguishing capabilities for effective sentence quality assessment; and 3) Quality-aware Robust Learning, for selecting and re-weighting samples based on quality scores to emphasize reliable sentence annotations while suppressing low-quality ones. Extensive experiments on CUHK-PEDES, ICFG-PEDES, and RSTPReid benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of PSE-QRL for improving learning robustness, achieving state-of-the-art (SOTA) retrieval performance for unsupervised TBPS.

2022 High-Dimensional Bayesian Optimization for Analog Integrated Circuit Sizing Based on Dropout and g/I Methodology
abstract
Bayesian optimization (BO) is popular for a analog circuit sizing problem recently. However, BO can only work well in small-scale circuit. Scaling BO to common circuit optimization (typically dimension > 10) is difficult due to the curse of dimensionality. In this article, we proposed a new BO algorithm (cBO), which can scale BO to more larger scale circuit and improve the optimization result. First, according to the fact that a specification of the analog integrated circuit is mainly determined by a few transistors, dropout strategy is adopted in our algorithm. At each iteration, only a subset of selected variables to be optimized. A variables selection strategy based on mutual information analysis and a new fill-in strategy are proposed. Second, the$g_{m}/I_{D}$methodology-based optimization strategy is proposed. Optimization variables are not width and the length of transistors, but$g_{m}/I_{D}$,$I_{D}$and length.$g_{m}$,$I_{D}$and$g_{m}/I_{D}$have a direct relationship to circuit performance. This is equivalent to search in circuit feature space, which could achieve better performance and handle constraints more easily. Four commonly used circuits, including low dropout regulator, two stage amplifiers, Bandgap voltage reference (VR), and VR are used for validation. Compared with other high-dimensional BO, common BO, and commercial tools (Cadence ADE_GXL), the proposed algorithm is found to produce the best optimization result and best stability. And, the ablation study shows the effectiveness and efficiency of two ingredients of the proposed algorithm.

2021 Pan-cancer analysis of NLRP3 inflammasome with potential implications in prognosis and immunotherapy in human cancer
abstract
NLRP3 inflammasome was introduced as a double-edged sword in tumorigenesis and influenced immunotherapy response by modulating host immunity. However, a systematic assessment of the NLRP3-inflammasome-related genes across human cancers is lacking, and the predictive role of NLRP3 inflammasome in cancer immunotherapy (CIT) response remains unexplored. Thus, in this study, we performed a pan-cancer analysis of NLRP3-inflammasome-related genes across 24 human cancers. Out of these 24 cancers, 15 cancers had significantly different expression of NLRP3-inflammasome-related genes between normal and tumor samples. Meanwhile, Cox regression analysis showed that the NLRP3 inflammasome score could be served as an independent prognostic factor in skin cutaneous melanoma. Further analysis indicated that NLRP3 inflammasome may influence tumor immunity mainly by mediating tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and macrophages, and the effect of NLRP3 inflammasome on immunity is diverse across tumor types in tumor microenvironment. We also found that the NLRP3 inflammasome score could be a stronger predictor for immune signatures compared with tumor mutation burden (TMB) and glycolytic activity, which have been reported as immune predictors. Furthermore, analysis of the association between NLRP3 inflammasome and CIT response using six CIT response datasets revealed the predictive value of NLRP3 inflammasome for immunotherapy response of patients in diverse cancers. Our study illustrates the characterization of NLRP3 inflammasome in multiple cancer types and highlights its potential value as a predictive biomarker of CIT response, which can pave the way for further investigation of the prognostic and therapeutic potentials of NLRP3 inflammasome.
