A Novel Dynamic Hill Cipher and Its Applications on Medical IoTabstractCryptography is one of the most important areas in information security. Cryptography ensures secure communication and data privacy, and it is increasingly being applied in healthcare and related fields. As an important classical cryptographic method, the Hill cipher has always been closely studied by experts and scholars. In order to enhance the security of the conventional Hill cipher (CHC), a novel dynamic Hill cipher (NDHC) is proposed in this work. The proposed NDHC not only replaces the static key matrix of the CHC with a time-varying dynamic key matrix (TVDKM) to change the image pixel values over time t, but also uses the Logistic chaos sequence scrambling the image pixel positions, which greatly enhances the security of the CHC. However, how to effectively obtain the dynamic inversion key matrix (DIKM) of the TVDKM becomes an urgent issue in the NDHC decryption. In order to quickly find the DIKM, a fixed-time convergence fuzzy Zeroing neural network (FTCF-ZNN) model is constructed, and the convergence and robustness of the FTCF-ZNN model for solving the DIKM are verified through theoretical analysis and comparative experimental results. Moreover, the effectiveness and security of the proposed NDHC for medical images encryption and decryption are also validated by experiments. Aijia Ouyang, Keqin Li 0001, Chaoyang Chen 0001

QBGA-SVM for Face Recognition of Livable CitiesabstractWith the continuous expansion of urbanization, the problem of human settlements has become increasingly prominent. Green, economical, intelligent and livable cities have become the urgent needs of future urban planning. The evaluation of urban livability is not only one of the judgment criteria of urban competitiveness, but also an important factor affecting the speed of urban development. Among them, the safety factor of the city is the important guarantee of other aspects, so this paper intends to design a high-precision face recognition algorithm to make efforts for the safety construction of livable cities. Aiming at the shortcomings of the standard support vector machine (SVM), combined with the quantum-behaved mechanism, a quantum-behaved genetic algorithm–SVM (QBGA–SVM) is proposed in the paper. The experimental results for the human face databases show that QBGA–SVM is superior to the comparison algorithms in both accuracy and stability. Finally, QBGA–SVM is applied to face images of the real world, and the results are better than the other algorithms. Qizhen Li, Aijia Ouyang, Xuyu Peng, Xijun Hu

Age Estimation Using Aging/Rejuvenation Features With Device-Edge SynergyabstractEstimating human age is a challenging task in computer vision and most researchers are trying to make age estimation via a static facial image. However, it ignores the fact that the age of a person is the specific representation of aging. In this paper, we attempt to explore the aging/rejuvenation (AR) characteristics of faces for age estimation and we called the whole network as AR-Net. Firstly, we use GAN model for learning a manifold of the aging/rejuvenation process to a face dataset with preserving personalized face features (e.g.,gender, race). Secondly, we seek the correlated aging/rejuvenation characteristics from a narrow age interval, (e.g.,((0-100)$\rightarrow $(0-5), (5-10),…, (90-100)). Thirdly, the fine-tuned GAN is used to generate aging/rejuvenation features of all age groups and these features are applied to train corresponding ELM regressors. AR-Net is deployed on every edge server, and all AR-Nets are trained offline. Afterwards, our AR-Net is constantly updated based on the face dataset collected by the edge sensors. Finally, enormous experiments on Morph-II, CACD, and captured facial dataset have been conducted to verify the performance of our fine-tuned AR-Net and the experimental results show that the approach enhanced than the current state of the art methods. | 2020 | A Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization Based on Grid DistanceabstractIn modern intelligent algorithms and real-industrial applications, there are many fields involving multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithms, but the conflict between each objective in the optimization process will easily lead to the algorithm falling into local optimal. In order to prevent the algorithm from quickly falling into local optimization and improve the robustness of the algorithm, a multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm based on grid distance (GDMOPSO) was proposed, which has to improve the diversity of the algorithm and the search ability. Based on the MOPSO algorithm, a new external archive control strategy was established by using the grid technology and Pareto-dominant ordering principle, and the learning samples were improved. The proposed GDMOPSO is compared with a group of benchmark function tests and four classical algorithms. The results of experiment show that our proposed algorithm can effectively avoid premature convergence in terms of generational distance and hyper-volume (HV) indicator compared with other four classical MOPSO algorithms. | 2020 | Chaos Glowworm Swarm Optimization Algorithm Based on Cloud Model for Face RecognitionabstractTo overcome the shortcomings of the basic glowworm swarm optimization (GSO) algorithm, such as low accuracy, slow convergence speed and easy to fall into local minima, chaos algorithm and cloud model algorithm are introduced to optimize the evolution mechanism of GSO, and a chaos GSO algorithm based on cloud model (CMCGSO) is proposed in the paper. The simulation results of benchmark function of global optimization show that the CMCGSO algorithm performs better than the cuckoo search (CS), invasive weed optimization (IWO), hybrid particle swarm optimization (HPSO), and chaos glowworm swarm optimization (CGSO) algorithm, and CMCGSO has the advantages of high accuracy, fast convergence speed and strong robustness to find the global optimum. Finally, the CMCGSO algorithm is used to solve the problem of face recognition, and the results are better than the methods from literatures. Aijia Ouyang, Yuming Xu

EGroupNet: A Feature-enhanced Network for Age Estimation with Novel Age Group SchemesabstractAlthough age estimation is easily affected by smiling, race, gender, and other age-related attributes, most of the researchers did not pay attention to the correlations among these attributes. Moreover, many researchers perform age estimation from a wide range of age; however, conducting an age prediction over a narrow age range may achieve better results. This article proposes a hierarchic approach referred to as EGroupNet for age prediction. The method includes two main stages, i.e., feature enhancement via excavating the correlations among age-related attributes and age estimation based on different age group schemes. First, we apply the multi-task learning model to learn multiple face attributes simultaneously to obtain discriminative features of different attributes. Second, we project the outputs of fully connected layers of several subnetworks into a highly correlated matrix space via the correlation learning process. Third, we classify these enhanced features into narrow age groups using two Extreme Learning Machine models. Finally, we make predictions based on the results of the age groups mergence. We conduct a large number of experiments on MORPH-II, LAP-2016 dataset, and Adience benchmark. The mean absolute errors of the two different settings on MORPH-II are 2.48 and 2.13 years, respectively; the normal score (ε) on the LAP-2016 dataset is 0.3578; and the accuracy of age prediction on Adience benchmark is 0.6978. | 2018 | Chaos Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm for Optimization ProblemsabstractA chaos particle swarm optimization (CPSO) algorithm based on the chaos operator (CS) is proposed for global optimization problems and parameter inversion of the nonlinear sun shadow model in our study. The CPSO algorithm combines the local search ability of CS and the global search ability of PSO algorithm. The CPSO algorithm can not only solve the global optimization problems effectively, but also address the parameter inversion problems of the date of sun shadow model location successfully. The results of numerical experiment and simulation experiment show that the CPSO algorithm has higher accuracy and faster convergence than the-state-of-the-art techniques. It can effectively improve the computing accuracy and computing efficiency of the global optimization problems, and also provide a novel method to solve the problems of integer parameter inversion in real life. | 2018 | An Effective and Efficient Hybrid Algorithm Based on HS-IWO for Global OptimizationabstractConsidering that the invasive weed optimization (IWO) algorithm and the harmony search (HS) algorithm are inclined to fall into local optima with low convergence precision when they are used to deal with complex function optimization problems, this paper proposes a hybrid algorithm, HS–IWO algorithm, which is combined HS algorithm and IWO algorithm. We introduce strategies such as fixing the number of seeds, reinitializing limit solutions, multi-individual global HS, parameter optimization, etc. In order to make the two algorithms take advantage of their merits, they are mixed organically in this paper. Through tests on some complex functions of benchmark, the experimental results display that the HS–IWO algorithm has the efficiency and robustness of the algorithms. It is an optimization algorithm that is highly effective and stable, especially to be applied to the optimization of complicated functions compared with other intelligent optimization algorithms. | 2018 | FlinkCL: An OpenCL-Based In-Memory Computing Architecture on Heterogeneous CPU-GPU Clusters for Big DataabstractResearch on in-memory big data management and processing has been prompted by the increase in main memory capacity and the explosion in big data. By offering an efficient in-memory distributed execution model, existing in-memory cluster computing platforms such as Flink and Spark have been proven to be outstanding for processing big data. This paper proposes FlinkCL, an in-memory computing architecture on heterogeneous CPU-GPU clusters based on OpenCL that enables Flink to utilize GPU's massive parallel processing ability. Our proposed architecture utilizes four techniques: a heterogeneous distributed abstract model (HDST), a Just-In-Time (JIT) compiling schema, a hierarchical partial reduction (HPR) and a heterogeneous task management strategy. Using FlinkCL, programmers only need to write Java code with simple interfaces. The Java code can be compiled to OpenCL kernels and executed on CPUs and GPUs automatically. In the HDST, a novel memory mapping scheme is proposed to avoid serialization or deserialization between Java Virtual Machine (JVM) objects and OpenCL structs. We have comprehensively evaluated FlinkCL with a set of representative workloads to show its effectiveness. Our results show that FlinkCL improve the performance by up to$11 \times$for some computationally heavy algorithms and maintains minor performance improvements for a I/O bound algorithm. | 2018 | GFlink: An In-Memory Computing Architecture on Heterogeneous CPU-GPU Clusters for Big DataabstractThe increasing main memory capacity and the explosion of big data have fueled the development of in-memory big data management and processing. By offering an efficient in-memory parallel execution model which can eliminate disk I/O bottleneck, existing in-memory cluster computing platforms (e.g., Flink and Spark) have already been proven to be outstanding platforms for big data processing. However, these platforms are merely CPU-based systems. This paper proposes GFlink, an in-memory computing architecture on heterogeneous CPU-GPU clusters for big data. Our proposed architecture extends the original Flink from CPU clusters to heterogeneous CPU-GPU clusters, greatly improving the computational power of Flink. Furthermore, we have proposed a programming framework based on Flink's abstract model, i.e., DataSet (DST), hiding the programming complexity of GPUs behind the simple and familiar high-level interfaces. | 2017 | GPU-Accelerated Parallel Hierarchical Extreme Learning Machine on Flink for Big DataabstractThe extreme learning machine (ELM) has become one of the most important and popular algorithms of machine learning, because of its extremely fast training speed, good generalization, and universal approximation/classification capability. The proposal of hierarchical ELM (H-ELM) extends ELM from single hidden layer feedforward networks to multilayer perceptron, greatly strengthening the applicability of ELM. Generally speaking, during training H-ELM, large-scale datasets (DSTs) are needed. Therefore, how to make use of H-ELM framework in processing big data is worth further exploration. This paper proposes a parallel H-ELM algorithm based on Flink, which is one of the in-memory cluster computing platforms, and graphics processing units (GPUs). Several optimizations are adopted to improve the performance, such as cache-based scheme, reasonable partitioning strategy, memory mapping scheme for mapping specific Java virtual machine objects to buffers. Most importantly, our proposed framework for utilizing GPUs to accelerate Flink for big data is general. This framework can be utilized to accelerate many other variants of ELM and other machine learning algorithms. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first kind of library, which combines in-memory cluster computing with GPUs to parallelize H-ELM. The experimental results have demonstrated that our proposed GPU-accelerated parallel H-ELM named as GPH-ELM can efficiently process large-scale DSTs with good performance of speedup and scalability, leveraging the computing power of both CPUs and GPUs in the cluster. | 2015 | An Adaptive Hybrid PSO Multi-Objective Optimization Algorithm for Constrained Optimization ProblemsabstractIn attempting to overcome the limitation of current methods to solve complicated constrained optimization problems, this paper proposes an adaptive hybrid particle swarm optimization multi-objective optimization (AHPSOMO) algorithm. In the early stage, this algorithm initializes the individuals in a population in an even manner using good point set (GPS) theory so that the diversity of the population can be guaranteed. In the process of local search, differential evolution (DE) algorithm is introduced for updating local optimal individuals. Particle swarm optimization method is further adopted to conduct global search as per the multi-objective approach. The results of simulation tests on 24 classic test functions and three engineering constrained optimization problems show that compared with other algorithms, our proposed algorithm is effective and feasible, which can offer highly accurate solutions with good robustness. | 2015 | The Application of HIWO-SVM in Analog Circuit Fault DiagnosisabstractThe paper proposes a fault diagnosis model based on the HIWO–SVM algorithm given the fact that the basic support vector machines (SVM) cannot solve effectively the problem of fault diagnosis in analog circuit. First of all, the wavelet package technique is adopted for extracting the information of the faults from the test points in the analog circuit. The differential evolution (DE) algorithm is then integrated with the purpose of improving the performance of the basic IWO algorithm, i.e. a hybrid IWO (HIWO) algorithm. The HIWO algorithm is further used to optimize the parameters of SVM in order to avoid the randomness of the parameter selection, thereby improving the diagnosis precision and robustness. The experimental results on a filter circuit show that the method is more effective and reliable than the other methods for fault diagnosis. Hongzhi Hu, Shulin Tian, Aijia Ouyang

A Hybrid Algorithm Based on Bat-Inspired Algorithm and Differential Evolution for Constrained Optimization ProblemsabstractHow to solve constrained optimization problems (COPs) is a significant research issue and we combine the bat-inspired algorithm (BA) with differential evolution (DE) into a new hybrid algorithm called BA-DE for solving the COPs. Traditional BAs are prone to sink into stagnation or local optima when no bat individual founds a better location than the past locations for several generations. DE is adopted for updating the past location of bat individuals to force BA to jump out of stagnation or local optima, since it has a great local searching capability. The performance of BA-DE algorithm is improved by the proposed hybrid mechanism. We use 24 well-known benchmark functions to verify the overall performance of our proposed algorithm. Comparisons show that BA-DE outperforms most advanced methods in terms of the final solution's quality. Shengyu Pei, Aijia Ouyang

A Profit Maximization Scheme with Guaranteed Quality of Service in Cloud ComputingabstractAs an effective and efficient way to provide computing resources and services to customers on demand, cloud computing has become more and more popular. From cloud service providers' perspective, profit is one of the most important considerations, and it is mainly determined by the configuration of a cloud service platform under given market demand. However, a single long-term renting scheme is usually adopted to configure a cloud platform, which cannot guarantee the service quality but leads to serious resource waste. In this paper, a double resource renting scheme is designed firstly in which short-term renting and long-term renting are combined aiming at the existing issues. This double renting scheme can effectively guarantee the quality of service of all requests and reduce the resource waste greatly. Secondly, a service system is considered as an M/M/m+D queuing model and the performance indicators that affect the profit of our double renting scheme are analyzed, e.g., the average charge, the ratio of requests that need temporary servers, and so forth. Thirdly, a profit maximization problem is formulated for the double renting scheme and the optimized configuration of a cloud platform is obtained by solving the profit maximization problem. Finally, a series of calculations are conducted to compare the profit of our proposed scheme with that of the single renting scheme. The results show that our scheme can not only guarantee the service quality of all requests, but also obtain more profit than the latter. Jing Mei, Kenli Li 0001, Aijia Ouyang, Keqin Li 0001

Estimating parameters of Muskingum Model using an Adaptive Hybrid PSO AlgorithmabstractIn order to accelerate the convergence and improve the calculation accuracy for parameter optimization of the Muskingum model, we propose a novel, adaptive hybrid particle swarm optimization (AHPSO) algorithm. With the decreasing of inertial weight factor proposed, this method can gradually converge to a global optimal with elite individuals obtained by hybrid PSO. In the paper, we analyzed the feasibility and the advantages of the AHPSO algorithm. Then, we verified its efficiency and superiority by application of the Muskingum model. We intensively evaluated the error fitting degree based on the comparison with four known formulas: the test method (TM), the least residual square method (LRSM), the nonlinear programming method (NPM), and the Broyden–Fletcher–Goldfarb–Shanno (BFGS) method. The results show that the AHPSO has a higher precision. In addition, we compared the AHPSO algorithm with the binary-encoded genetic algorithm (BGA), the Gray genetic algorithm (GGA), the Gray-encoded accelerating genetic algorithm (GAGA) and the particle swarm optimization (PSO), and results show that AHPSO has faster convergent speed. Moreover, AHPSO has a competitive advantage compared with the above eight methods in terms of robustness. With the efficiency of this approach it can be extended to estimate parameters of other dynamic models. Aijia Ouyang, Zhuo Tang, Kenli Li 0001, Ahmed Sallam, Edwin H.-M. Sha
