2025 AMO Sampler: Enhancing Text Rendering with Overshooting
abstract
Achieving precise alignment between textual instructions and generated images in text-to-image generation is a significant challenge, particularly in rendering written text within images. Sate-of-the-art models like Stable Diffusion 3 (SD3), Flux, and AuraFlow still struggle with accurate text depiction, resulting in misspelled or inconsistent text. We introduce a training-free method with minimal computational overhead that significantly enhances text rendering quality. Specifically, we introduce an overshooting sampler for pre-trained rectified flow (RF) models, by alternating between over-simulating the learned ordinary differential equation (ODE) and reintroducing noise. Compared to the Euler sampler, the overshooting sampler effectively introduces an extra Langevin dynamics term that can help correct the compounding error from successive Euler steps and therefore improve the text rendering. However, when the overshooting strength is high, we observe over-smoothing artifacts on the generated images. To address this issue, we propose an Attention Modulated Overshooting sampler (AMO), which adaptively control the strength of overshooting for each image patch according to their attention score with the text content. AMO demonstrates a 32.3% and 35.9% improvement in text rendering accuracy on SD3 and Flux without compromising overall image quality or increasing inference cost.

2025 Improving Rectified Flow with Boundary Conditions
abstract
Rectified Flow offers a simple and effective approach to high-quality generative modeling by learning a velocity field. However, we identify a limitation in directly modeling the velocity with an unconstrained neural network: the learned velocity often fails to satisfy certain boundary conditions, leading to inaccurate velocity field estimations that deviate from the desired ODE. This issue is particularly critical during stochastic sampling at inference, as the score function's errors are amplified near the boundary. To mitigate this, we propose a Boundary-enforced Rectified Flow Model (Boundary RF Model), in which we enforce boundary conditions with a minimal code modification. Boundary RF Model improves performance over vanilla RF model, demonstrating 8.01% improvement in FID score on ImageNet using ODE sampling and 8.98% improvement using SDE sampling.

2025 Temporally Streaming Audio-Visual Synchronization for Real-World Videos
abstract
We introduce RealSync, a novel dataset designed to significantly enhance the training and evaluation of models for audio-visual synchronization (AV Sync) tasks. Sourced from high-quality YouTube channels, RealSync covers a wide range of content domains, providing an improved scale, diversity, and alignment with broadcast content compared to existing datasets. It features extended-length video samples, catering to the critical need for more comprehensive, real-world training and evaluation materials. Alongside this dataset, we present StreamSync, a model tailored for real-world AV Sync applications. StreamSync is designed to be backbone agnostic and incorporates a streaming mechanism that processes consecutive video segments dynamically, iteratively refining synchronization predictions. This innovative approach enables StreamSync to outperform existing models, offering superior synchronization accuracy with minimal computational cost per iteration. Together, our dataset and the StreamSync model establish a new benchmark for AVSync research, promising to drive the development of more robust and practical AVSync methods. https://github.com/jvoas655/StreamSync

2024 AdaFlow: Imitation Learning with Variance-Adaptive Flow-Based Policies
abstract
Diffusion-based imitation learning improves Behavioral Cloning (BC) on multi-modal decision-making, but comes at the cost of significantly slower inference due to the recursion in the diffusion process. It urges us to design efficient policy generators while keeping the ability to generate diverse actions. To address this challenge, we propose AdaFlow, an imitation learning framework based on flow-based generative modeling. AdaFlow represents the policy with state-conditioned ordinary differential equations (ODEs), which are known as probability flows. We reveal an intriguing connection between the conditional variance of their training loss and the discretization error of the ODEs. With this insight, we propose a variance-adaptive ODE solver that can adjust its step size in the inference stage, making AdaFlow an adaptive decision-maker, offering rapid inference without sacrificing diversity. Interestingly, it automatically reduces to a one-step generator when the action distribution is uni-modal. Our comprehensive empirical evaluation shows that AdaFlow achieves high performance with fast inference speed.

2023 Learning to Map Efficiently by Active Echolocation
abstract
Using visual SLAM to map new environments requires time-consuming visits to all regions for data collection. We propose an approach to estimate maps of areas beyond the visible regions using a cheap and readily available modality of data-sound. We introduce the idea of an active audio-visual mapping agent. Besides collecting visual data, the proposed agent emits sounds during navigation, captures the echoes, and uses them to accurately map unknown areas. We propose a reinforcement learning based method that simultaneously trains models to 1) estimate a map from the visual data, 2) output navigation actions, 3) output the decision to emit a sound and 4) refine estimated mans using the cantured audio. Our agent is trained and tested on 85 real-world homes from the Matterport3D dataset using the Habitat and SoundSpaces simulators for visual and audio data. Our method, unlike visual-data reliant approaches, yields more accurate maps with broader environmental coverage. In addition, compared to an agent that continually emits sounds, we observe that intelligently choosing when to emit sounds leads to accurate maps obatined with greater efficiency.

2022 Mix and Localize: Localizing Sound Sources in Mixtures
abstract
We present a method for simultaneously localizing multiple sound sources within a visual scene. This task requires a model to both group a sound mixture into individual sources, and to associate them with a visual signal. Our method jointly solves both tasks at once, using a formulation inspired by the contrastive random walk of Jabri et al. We create a graph in which images and separated sounds correspond to nodes, and train a random walker to transition between nodes from different modalities with high return probability. The transition probabilities for this walk are determined by an audio-visual similarity metric that is learned by our model. We show through experiments with musical instruments and human speech that our model can successfully localize multiple sounds, outperforming other self-supervised methods.
