| 2026 | Motion Capture with Millimeter-Wave TagsabstractThis paper introduces M3oCap, a millimeter-wave (mmWave) tag-based motion capture system that delivers accurate 6 degrees of freedom motion tracking. M3oCap utilizes a single commercial mmWave radar and custom-designed mmWave backscatter tags (2.5 cm × 3 cm) to localize and track the motion of tagged objects. Our system features novel algorithms that effectively isolate weak backscattered signals while accurately recovering phase changes induced by motion, allowing high-rate tracking of tag movements. Experiments show that M3oCap achieves performance close to commercial motion capture systems – it provides 1000 measurements per second with a median range tracking accuracy of 250 μ m, median localization accuracies of 3.34 mm, 3.95 mm, and 4.20 mm in x, y, z dimensions, and median orientation tracking accuracies of 1.7°, 2.3°, and 2.0° across pitch, roll, and yaw. We further demonstrate the system’s fine-grained movement tracking capabilities through various motion capture tasks. | 2025 | Design of Integral-Based HOSM Controller Under Perturbations of Unknown MagnitudesabstractThis article is committed to the establishment of an integral-based high-order sliding mode (iHOSM) controller for one category of nonlinear systems when confronted with perturbations with unknown magnitudes. A striking characteristic is that an integral dynamics is deftly constructed and then incorporated into the original sliding mode system to dispose of the perturbations of unknown magnitudes. On account of the new sliding mode dynamics, we explicitly introduce a systematic design protocol to dexterously design a new iHOSM controller. This is fulfilled through amending the technique of adding a power integrator. The theoretical justification has been guaranteed by the rigorous Lyapunov analysis. The investigations of two elucidative examples are provided to validate the validity and feasibility of the designed methodology. Yao Gong, Li Ma 0003, Shihong Ding, Chen Ding 0015 |

| 2022 | UbE3-APA: a bioinformatic strategy to elucidate ubiquitin E3 ligase activities in quantitative proteomics studyabstractMOTIVATION: Ubiquitination is widely involved in protein homeostasis and cell signaling. Ubiquitin E3 ligases are critical regulators of ubiquitination that recognize and recruit specific ubiquitination targets for the final rate-limiting step of ubiquitin transfer reactions. Understanding the ubiquitin E3 ligase activities will provide knowledge in the upstream regulator of the ubiquitination pathway and reveal potential mechanisms in biological processes and disease progression. Recent advances in mass spectrometry-based proteomics have enabled deep profiling of ubiquitylome in a quantitative manner. Yet, functional analysis of ubiquitylome dynamics and pathway activity remains challenging. RESULTS: Here, we developed a UbE3-APA, a computational algorithm and stand-alone python-based software for Ub E3 ligase Activity Profiling Analysis. Combining an integrated annotation database with statistical analysis, UbE3-APA identifies significantly activated or suppressed E3 ligases based on quantitative ubiquitylome proteomics datasets. Benchmarking the software with published quantitative ubiquitylome analysis confirms the genetic manipulation of SPOP enzyme activity through overexpression and mutation. Application of the algorithm in the re-analysis of a large cohort of ubiquitination proteomics study revealed the activation of PARKIN and the co-activation of other E3 ligases in mitochondria depolarization-induced mitophagy process. We further demonstrated the application of the algorithm in the DIA (data-independent acquisition)-based quantitative ubiquitylome analysis. AVAILABILITY AND IMPLEMENTATION: Source code and binaries are freely available for download at URL: https://github.com/Chenlab-UMN/Ub-E3-ligase-Activity-Profiling-Analysis, implemented in python and supported on Linux and MS Windows. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: Supplementary data are available at Bioinformatics online. Yao Gong, Yue Chen 0016 |
