| 2021 | Verification of Operational Applications of New Modes of Terrasar-X PAZ ConstellationabstractIn this paper, we present examples of qualification tests performed to verify joint operational applications of TerraSAR-X and PAZ so called ‘new modes’. From July 2020, the PAZ mission offers two new acquisition modes. The new modes are Staring SpotLight (ST) and Wide ScanSAR (WSC). The very high resolution Staring SpotLight images are acquired at up to 25cm resolution and mainly operated for target detection and identification over tactical reconnaissance areas. The Wide ScanSAR images oversee the demand for wide area monitoring at the expanse of 270km x 200km at 40m resolution. These two new additions are fully equivalent to the existing modes of TerraSAR-X in all aspects of image formation, calibration, production format, and distribution. The precise calibration and highly accurate orbit parameters of this satellite constellation have opened the opportunity for high quality, high resolution frequent SAR data access. In 2019 [1], we presented examples of operational applications of the Radar Constellation (TerraSAR-X/PAZ) based on its standard modes. In this paper, we focus on three selected applications of the new modes that directly benefit from frequent revisit capability. The test cases are: 1- Improved accuracy of automatically detected, matched and evaluated Ground Control Points (GCP) at a quarter meter accuracy, 2- Daily monitoring of sites by means of Automatic Target Recognition (ATR), and 3- within the field of maritime surveillance, a test case of detection, identification and tracking of ships using Wide ScanSAR images with available AIS (Automatic Identification System) tracking data.
