2026 Beyond Local Patterns: Multiscale Inconsistency Learning for Graph Anomaly Detection
abstract
Graph anomaly detection is emerging as a critical technology for addressing increasingly complex and dynamic risk environments. Although unsupervised graph anomaly detection has advanced under the graph representation learning, directly applying these paradigms remains fundamentally misaligned with anomaly detection objectives. In this work, we highlight two key insights: graph neural networks are often suboptimal as feature extractors due to neighborhood aggregation diluting anomaly signals, and reliance on local inconsistency mining is inadequate for comprehensive anomaly detection, as it often fails to identify anomalies hidden within camouflaged communities. Based on these insights, we propose multiscale inconsistency learning for graph anomaly detection (MI-GAD), a novel framework that integrates both local and global anomaly signals. Specifically, individual node representations are projected onto a common hypersphere to ensure uniformity. At the local scale, the graph structure is leveraged for affinity-aware modeling via group discrimination. At the global scale, we introduce node deviation, a metric that distinguishes anomalies by optimizing representation centers. This unified approach enables robust and comprehensive detection of diverse graph anomalies. Experiments on seven real datasets demonstrate that our method consistently outperforms state-of-the-art baselines in both effectiveness and scalability.

2025 Solving Instance Detection from an Open-World Perspective
abstract
Instance detection (InsDet) aims to localize specific object instances within a novel scene imagery based on given visual references. Technically, it requires proposal detection to identify all possible object instances, followed by instance-level matching to pinpoint the ones of interest. Its open-world nature supports its broad applications from robotics to AR/VR but also presents significant challenges: methods must generalize to unknown testing data distributions because (1) the testing scene imagery is unseen during training, and (2) there are domain gaps between visual references and detected proposals. Existing methods tackle these challenges by synthesizing diverse training examples or utilizing off-the-shelf foundation models (FMs). However, they only partially capitalize the available open-world information. In contrast, we approach InsDet from an Open-World perspective, introducing our method IDOW. We find that, while pretrained FMs yield high recall in instance detection, they are not specifically optimized for instance-level feature matching. Therefore, we adapt pretrained FMs for improved instance-level matching using open-world data. Our approach incorporates metric learning along with novel data augmentations, which sample distractors as negative examples and synthesize novel-view instances to enrich the visual references. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method significantly outperforms prior works, achieving >10 AP over previous results on two recently released challenging benchmark datasets in both conventional and novel instance detection settings.

2025 Enhancing Bone Mineral Density Estimation from X-ray Images with Cross-Modal Knowledge Distillation
abstract
Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) enables accurate bone mineral density but requires specialized equipment and protocols. X-ray-based BMD screening offers opportunistic early detection, though prior methods struggle with X-ray intensity variations and demand large datasets. We introduce a cross-modal knowledge distillation BMD prediction framework (CMKD-BMD) fusing X-ray/CT data to enhance X-ray-only BMD prediction. Each single-modal student network employs a multi-scale visual extractor for hierarchical features, an unsupervised graph-based structural learner for anatomical relationships, and an adaptive fusion module to generate a unified representation. The teacher network integrates single-modal representations from students and transfers multimodal knowledge from the teacher to students. Our model outperforms existing methods on both the collected dataset (comprising 1620 X-rays and 280 CT cases) and the publicly available VerSe2019 dataset, demonstrating superior BMD estimation performance. Furthermore, we developed OrthoSim, an orthopedic surgical simulation platform with CMKD-BMD, which has shown promising clinical effectiveness in trial evaluations. Our code is available at https://github.com/KeyueShi/CMKD-BMD.

2025 Where Views Meet Curves: Virtual Anchors for Hyperbolic Multi-View Graph Diffusion
abstract
In recent years, graph-based multi-view learning has received widespread attention for its ability to utilize data dependencies to capture more comprehensive information from ubiquitous multi-view data. However, with the increase in data size and complexity, Euclidean space struggles to capture the hierarchical and exponentially expanding relationships of multi-view data in limited dimensions, leading to embedding distortion and insufficient cross-view alignment and interaction. To this end, we propose a hyperbolic multi-view heat diffusion method. Firstly, we utilize the negative curvature advantage of the hyperbolic space to construct a graph representation for each view separately, so that each view can still retain its hierarchical structure in relatively low dimensions. Then we construct a graph heat diffusion process on hyperbolic manifolds to ensure that each view is locally smoothed and globally aggregated while achieving semantic consistency through virtual views. We show that the method can be interpreted as a Riemannian gradient descent process for collaborative learning on hyperbolic manifolds, which not only effectively fuses multimodal information, but also significantly enhances the interaction and unified representation among different views. Experimental results show that the proposed framework achieves excellent performance in a variety of multi-view scenarios.

2025 LUMOS: A Lumbar Multimodal Osteoporosis Screening Dataset with X-ray and CT images
abstract
Osteoporosis has emerged as a significant global public health challenge, affecting more than 200 million people worldwide. Precise screening through bone mineral density (BMD) assessment is essential for timely intervention. Although dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) serves as the gold standard for BMD evaluation, its widespread application is hampered by high costs and limited accessibility. In recent years, deep learning has demonstrated great potential in osteoporosis classification and predicting BMD from X-ray and CT scans. However, existing public datasets have notable limitations, particularly the absence of paired multimodal imaging datasets for cross-modal modeling and the lack of accurate BMD annotations required for osteoporosis-specific research and clinical model optimization. To address these issues, we introduce the Lumbar Multimodal Osteoporosis Screening dataset (LUMOS), the first multimodal dataset specifically designed for lumbar osteoporosis screening. LUMOS integrates clinical data from 803 patients, including 1,620 anteroposterior/lateral lumbar X-rays with BMD values and T-scores, comprehensive demographic information, and 280 lumbar CT scans. The advent of LUMOS is expected to propel forward research on automated osteoporosis classification, BMD prediction, and other related tasks. Its standardized and multimodal nature fills critical gaps in lumbar osteoporosis data, providing high-quality data support for the development and validation of medical AI algorithms in the early detection of osteoporosis. The dataset is available at https://keyueshi.github.io/LUMOS/.

2023 A High-Resolution Dataset for Instance Detection with Multi-View Object Capture
abstract
Instance detection (InsDet) is a long-lasting problem in robotics and computer vision, aiming to detect object instances (predefined by some visual examples) in a cluttered scene. Despite its practical significance, its advancement is overshadowed by Object Detection, which aims to detect objects belonging to some predefined classes. One major reason is that current InsDet datasets are too small in scale by today's standards. For example, the popular InsDet dataset GMU (published in 2016) has only 23 instances, far less than COCO (80 classes), a well-known object detection dataset published in 2014. We are motivated to introduce a new InsDet dataset and protocol. First, we define a realistic setup for InsDet: training data consists of multi-view instance captures, along with diverse scene images allowing synthesizing training images by pasting instance images on them with free box annotations. Second, we release a real-world database, which contains multi-view capture of 100 object instances, and high-resolution (6k$\times$8k) testing images. Third, we extensively study baseline methods for InsDet on our dataset, analyze their performance and suggest future work. Somewhat surprisingly, using the off-the-shelf class-agnostic segmentation model (Segment Anything Model, SAM) and the self-supervised feature representation DINOv2 performs the best, achieving $>$10 AP better than end-to-end trained InsDet models that repurpose object detectors (e.g., FasterRCNN and RetinaNet).
