2024 Percentile Risk-Constrained Budget Pacing for Guaranteed Display Advertising in Online Optimization
abstract
Guaranteed display (GD) advertising is a critical component of advertising since it provides publishers with stable revenue and enables advertisers to target specific audiences with guaranteed impressions. However, smooth pacing control for online ad delivery presents a challenge due to significant budget disparities, user arrival distribution drift, and dynamic change between supply and demand. This paper presents robust risk-constrained pacing (RCPacing) that utilizes Lagrangian dual multipliers to fine-tune probabilistic throttling through monotonic mapping functions within the percentile space of impression performance distribution. RCPacing combines distribution drift resilience and compatibility with guaranteed allocation mechanism, enabling us to provide near-optimal online services. We also show that RCPacing achieves O(sqrt(T)) dynamic regret where T is the length of the horizon. RCPacing's effectiveness is validated through offline evaluations and online A/B testing conducted on Taobao brand advertising platform.

2021 Pseudo-Label Generation-Evaluation Framework For Cross Domain Weakly Supervised Object Detection
abstract
Cross domain weakly supervised object detection (CDWSOD), where we can get access to instance-level annotations in the source domain while only image-level annotations are available in the target domain, adapts object detectors from label-rich to label-poor domains. It usually generates pseudo labels in the target domain and utilize them to finetune the detector pretrained in the source domain. In this paper, we propose a new pseudo-label generation-evaluation framework for CDWSOD task. In particular, an evaluator is introduced for the generated pseudo labels in the target domain and the transferring process involves two players: the detector to generate instance-level pseudo labels and the evaluator to judge the quality of pseudo labels. Only high-quality pseudo labels selected by the evaluator are utilized to finetune the detector. Experiments on three representative datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our framework in various domains.

2020 Attention-Aware Multi-Task Convolutional Neural Networks
abstract
Multi-task deep learning methods learn multiple tasks simultaneously and share representations amongst them, so information from related tasks improves learning within one task. The generalization capabilities of the produced models are substantially enhanced. Typical multi-task deep learning models usually share representations of different tasks in lower layers of the network, and separate representations of different tasks in higher layers. However, different groups of tasks always have different requirements for sharing representations, so the required design criterion does not necessarily guarantee that the obtained network architecture is optimal. In addition, most existing methods ignore the redundancy problem and lack the pre-screening process for representations before they are shared. Here, we propose a model called Attention-aware Multi-task Convolutional Neural Network, which automatically learns appropriate sharing through end-to-end training. The attention mechanism is introduced into our architecture to suppress redundant contents contained in the representations. The shortcut connection is adopted to preserve useful information. We evaluate our model by carrying out experiments on different task groups and different datasets. Our model demonstrates an improvement over existing techniques in many experiments, indicating the effectiveness and the robustness of the model. We also demonstrate the importance of attention mechanism and shortcut connection in our model.
