2025 Malware Detection in Docker Containers: An Image is Worth a Thousand Logs
abstract
Malware detection is increasingly challenged by evolving techniques like obfuscation and polymorphism, limiting the effectiveness of traditional methods. Meanwhile, the widespread adoption of software containers has introduced new security challenges, including the growing threat of malicious software injection, where a container, once compromised, can serve as entry point for further cyberattacks. In this work, we address these security issues by introducing a method to identify compromised containers through machine learning analysis of their file systems. We cast the entire software containers into large RGB images via their tarball representations, and propose to use established Convolutional Neural Network architectures on a streaming, patchbased manner. To support our experiments, we release the COSOCO dataset-the first of its kind-containing 3364 largescale RGB images of benign and compromised software containers at https://huggingface.co/datasets/k3ylabs/cosoco-imagedataset. Our method detects more malware and achieves higher F1 and Recall scores than all individual and ensembles of VirusTotal engines, demonstrating its effectiveness and setting a new standard for identifying malware-compromised software containers.

2022 BP-EVD: Forward Block-Output Propagation for Efficient Video Denoising
abstract
Denoising videos in real-time is critical in many applications, including robotics and medicine, where varying-light conditions, miniaturized sensors, and optics can substantially compromise image quality. This work proposes the first video denoising method based on a deep neural network that achieves state-of-the-art performance on dynamic scenes while running in real-time on VGA video resolution with no frame latency. The backbone of our method is a novel, remarkably simple, temporal network of cascaded blocks with forward block output propagation. We train our architecture with short, long, and global residual connections by minimizing the restoration loss of pairs of frames, leading to a more effective training across noise levels. It is robust to heavy noise following Poisson-Gaussian noise statistics. The algorithm is evaluated on RAW and RGB data. We propose a denoising algorithm that requires no future frames to denoise a current frame, reducing its latency considerably. The visual and quantitative results show that our algorithm achieves state-of-the-art performance among efficient algorithms, achieving from two-fold to two-orders-of-magnitude speed-ups on standard benchmarks for video denoising.

2021 Leveraging spatio-temporal features for joint deblurring and segmentation of instruments in dental video microscopy
abstract
In dentistry, microscopes have become indispensable optical devices for high-quality treatment and micro-invasive surgery, especially in the field of endodontics. Recent machine vision advances enable more advanced, real-time applications including but not limited to dental video deblurring and workflow analysis through relevant metadata obtained by instrument motion trajectories. To this end, the proposed work addresses dental video deblurring and instrument segmentation in a Multi-task Learning fashion, leveraging spatio-temporal adaptive kernels via a recurrent design. The task-specific branches of our architecture employ the responses of those kernels to recover sharper video frames and yield the dental instrument segmentation mask. We demonstrate that the proposed method improves deblurring while retaining segmentation performance under a low computational footprint.

2020 A Triplet-learnt Coarse-to-Fine Reranking for Vehicle Re-identification
abstract
Vehicle re-identification refers to the task of matching the same query vehicle across non-overlapping cameras and diverse viewpoints. Research interest on the field emerged with intelligent transportation systems and the necessity for public security maintenance. Compared to person, vehicle re-identification is more intricate, facing the challenges of lower intra-class and higher inter-class similarities. Motivated by deep metric learning advances, we propose a novel, triplet-learnt coarse-to-fine reranking scheme (C2F-TriRe) to address vehicle re-identification. Coarse vehicle features conduct the baseline ranking. Thereafter, a fully connected network maps features to viewpoints. Simultaneously, windshields are detected and respective fine features are extracted to capture custom vehicle characteristics. Conditional to the viewpoint, coarse and fine features are combined to yield a robust reranking. The proposed scheme achieves state-of-the-art performance on the VehicleID dataset and outperforms our baselines by a large margin.
