2020 Co-design for A64FX manycore processor and "Fugaku"
abstract
We have been carrying out the FLAGSHIP 2020 Project to develop the Japanese next-generation flagship supercomputer, the Post-K, recently named “Fugaku”. We have designed an original many core processor based on Armv8 instruction sets with the Scalable Vector Extension (SVE), an A64FX processor, as well as a system including interconnect and a storage subsystem with the industry partner, Fujitsu. The “co-design” of the system and applications is a key to making it power efficient and high performance. We determined many architectural parameters by reflecting an analysis of a set of target applications provided by applications teams. In this paper, we present the pragmatic practice of our co-design effort for “Fugaku”. As a result, the system has been proven to be a very power-efficient system, and it is confirmed that the performance of some target applications using the whole system is more than 100 times the performance of the K computer.

2007 Voice activity detection by lip shape tracking using EBGM
abstract
We propose a voice activity detection of a target speaker (driver) in a car by integrating lip movement and acoustic processing. To prevent the wrong detection caused by nontarget speakers using only acoustic processing, the proposed system extracts the lip movement of the target speaker by measuring the lip aspect ratio. An infrared camera is used to cope with the change of lighting environment. In order to extract the lip from gray scale images, Elastic Bunch Graph Matching is employed. Experimental results showed the proposed system improved the precision rate in the voice activity detection by approximately 40% compared to the method using only acoustic processing in a car.

2004 Early Experience with Aerospace CFD at JAXA on the Fujitsu PRIMEPOWER HPC2500
abstract
Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency has introduced a new terascale SMP-cluster-type parallel supercomputer system as Numerical Simulator III (NS-III) for aerospace science and engineering research purposes. The system has been in full operation since October 2002. This system is using Fujitsu PRIMEPOWER HPC2500 as main compute engine; it has computing capability 9.3 tflop/s peak performance and 3.6 TB of user memory, with about 1,800 scalar processors for computation. It has mass storage consisting of 57 TB disk storage and a 620 TB tape library. A visualization system is tightly integrated with the computation system. In this paper, we give a brief review for the history of the Numerical Simulator first, then we describe the system configuration in detail as well as the requirement and design of the NS-III. Next, we present the performance evaluation results of the Fujitsu PRIMEPOWER HPC2500 system both for micro- and kernel-benchmarks and aerospace CFD applications used at JAXA, and finally we will discuss how we use the system efficiently.
