2022 Power Adaptation for Enhancing Spectral Efficiency and Energy Efficiency in Multi-Hop Full Duplex Cognitive Wireless Relay Networks
abstract
This work investigates the energy efficiency (EE) and the spectral efficiency (SE) performance of multi-hop full duplex cognitive relay networks (MH-FDCRNs) operating in the spectrum sharing mode, under the influence of interference from the primary source. We formulate three distinct optimization problems for finding the optimal power allocation (OPA) for the secondary nodes in MH-FDCRN: (i) EE optimization with minimum SE requirement; (ii) SE optimization with minimum EE requirement; and (iii) EE-SE trade-off optimization. The impact of residual self-interference (RSI) arising due to full duplex operation at the relay nodes and the inter relay interference (IRI) arising due to frequency re-use are considered. For the EE/SE optimization problems, we transform the original non-convex optimization problems to their convex forms by expressing the numerator of the objective function as the difference of concave functions, and by using parametric transformation. For the EE-SE trade-off optimization problem, we first transform the original multi objective optimization problem into a single objective form; and then into its convex form by introducing an auxiliary variable. Computationally efficient algorithms are proposed to solve the considered problems. The convergence properties of the proposed algorithms are established through mathematical analysis as well as through computer simulation studies. We prove that the points of convergence of the proposed iterative algorithms are the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) points of the initial non-convex problems. With the help of detailed numerical results, the best trade-off among EE and SE can be achieved by proper selection of priority factor, compared to the individual optimization approaches.

2021 Performance analysis of power splitting SWIPT-enabled full duplex cooperative NOMA system with direct link
abstract
Abstract This paper considers a full duplex (FD) cooperative non‐orthogonal multiple access system that employs power splitting relaying (PSR)‐based simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) technique, that is, FD‐PSR‐NOMA system. A single cell network is considered consisting of a base station (BS) and two pre‐paired users, where the near user is configured to act as FD relay to assist the BS for information delivery to the far user. It is assumed that the far user implements maximal ratio combining to combine the direct link signal arriving from the BS and the relayed signal from the near user, to exploit the diversity advantage. Analytical expressions are derived for the outage probabilities of the downlink users, system outage probability, and the throughput of the considered network under imperfect successive interference cancellation (i‐SIC). Analytical expressions are also derived for the outage probabilities and throughput of half duplex (HD) cooperative NOMA system under PSR‐based SWIPT, that is, HD‐PSR‐NOMA system. Further, the asymptotic outage probabilities and diversity orders are derived as well. The optimal power allocation factors at the BS that minimize the system outage probabilities of FD/HD‐PSR‐NOMA networks are determined. Extensive simulation results are provided to corroborate the analytical findings.

2020 Ensuring equal outage performance for down-link secondary users in full/half duplex cognitive NOMA systems
abstract
This study considers an underlay cognitive radio (CR) system, where the secondary network employs cooperative non‐orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) to transfer information for downlink secondary users (SUs). Here the near user is enabled to act as a full duplex/half duplex (FD/HD) decode‐and‐forward (DF) relay for the far user. We derive analytical expressions for the outage probabilities experienced by the SUs in the considered FD/HD – CR‐NOMA network. The maximum transmit power constraint of the secondary nodes and the tolerable interference power constraints at the primary receiver are considered for the analysis. We provide numerical and simulation results to identify the impact of key system parameters on the outage performance of SUs. Further, we provide insights on the selection of key system parameters such as NOMA power allocation coefficient for ensuring that both the SUs experience equal outage performance. Finally, we derive an analytical expression for the system outage probability of the FD‐CR‐NOMA network. We determine the optimal power allocation (OPA) factor at the secondary transmitter that minimises the system outage probability. We establish that OPA can reduce the system outage significantly as compared to the default choice of power allocation factor. The analytical results are validated by extensive simulation studies.

2019 Optimal power allocation for energy-efficient full-duplex cognitive relay networks under primary interference
abstract
This study investigates optimal power allocation (OPA) for maximising the energy efficiency (EE) of dual‐hop underlay full‐duplex cognitive relay network, under the influence of interference from primary source. The OPA for the EE optimisation is constrained on the maximum transmit power of the secondary nodes and the interference threshold power which can be tolerated at the primary destination. The authors convert the initial non‐convex optimisation problem to a concave fractional programming form and propose an iterative algorithm using parametric transformation to find the OPA vector. Further, they prove that the point of convergence of the proposed iterative algorithm is a Karush–Kuhn–Tucker point of the initial non‐convex problem. They numerically demonstrate the EE improvement achieved by the proposed algorithms over equal power allocation strategy.
