| 2020 | Realizing A Composable Enterprise Microservices Fabric with AI-Accelerated Material Discovery API ServicesabstractThe complexity of building, deploying, and managing cross-organizational enterprise computing services with self-service, security, and quality assurances has been increasing exponentially in the era of hybrid multiclouds. AI-accelerated material discovery capabilities, for example, are desirable for enterprise application users to consume through business API services with assurance of satisfactory nonfunctional properties, e.g., enterprise-compliant self-service management of sharable sensitive data and machine learning capabilities at Internet scale. This paper presents a composable microservices based approach to creating and continuously improving enterprise computing services. Moreover, it elaborates on several key architecture design decisions for Navarch, a composable enterprise microservices fabric that facilitates consuming, managing, and composing enterprise API services. Under service management model of individual administration, every Navarch microservice is a managed composable API service that can be provided by an internal organization, an enterprise partner, or a public service provider. This paper also illustrates a Navarch-enabled systematic and efficient approach to transforming an AI-accelerated material discovery tool into secure, scalable, and composable enterprise microservices. Performance of the microservices can be continuously improved by exploiting advanced heterogeneous microservice hosting infrastructures. Factual comparative performance analyses are provided before the paper concludes with future work. Rong Chang 0001, Kumar Bhaskaran, Hsiang-Han Hsu, Seiji Takeda, Toshiyuki Hama |

| 2020 | Molecular Inverse-Design Platform for Material IndustriesabstractThe discovery of new materials has been the essential force which brings a discontinuous improvement to industrial products' performance. However, the extra-vast combinatorial design space of material structures exceeds human experts' capability to explore all, thereby hampering material development. In this paper, we present a material industry-oriented web platform of an AI-driven molecular inverse-design system, which automatically designs brand new molecular structures rapidly and diversely. Different from existing inverse-design solutions, in this system, the combination of substructure-based feature encoding and molecular graph generation algorithms allows a user to gain high-speed, interpretable, and customizable design process. Also, a hierarchical data structure and user-oriented UI provide a flexible and intuitive workflow. The system is deployed on IBM's and our client's cloud servers and has been used by 5 partner companies. To illustrate actual industrial use cases, we exhibit inverse-design of sugar and dye molecules, that were carried out by experimental chemists in those client companies. Compared to a general human chemist's standard performance, the molecular design speed was accelerated more than 10 times, and greatly increased variety was observed in the inverse-designed molecules without loss of chemical realism. | 1999 | Topological routing path search algorithm with incremental routability testabstractThis paper describes a topological routing path search algorithm embedded in our rubber-band-based autorouter for single-layer printed circuit boards. The algorithm searches for a topological path that is guaranteed to be transformable into a physical wire satisfying design rules. Topological path search algorithms used in existing autorouters verify design rules only locally and approximately. However, it is preferable to satisfy design rules exactly in the global routing phase, especially for routing a densely wired printed circuit board. We propose a method for incrementally verifying design rules during the topological routing path search and describe several improvements to the algorithm that reduce the overhead of the routability test and suppress combinatorial explosion. We also discuss the practical feasibility of the proposed algorithm on the basis of the results of experiments using several printed circuit boards. Toshiyuki Hama, Hiroaki Etoh |

| 1999 | Curvilinear detailed routing with simultaneous wire-spreading and wire-fatteningabstractThis paper describes an algorithm for curvilinear detailed routing. We significantly improved the average time performance of Gao's algorithm by resolving its bottleneck related to generation of fan-shaped forbidden regions along a wire. We also describe a method for simultaneous wire-spreading and wire-fattening, which consists of enlarging forbidden regions generated by the detailed routing algorithm as long as there remains any space through which wires can pass. From the experiments we obtained the result that the average CPU time of the detailed routing algorithm is almost linear to the length of a wire. Since the curvilinear detailed routing is efficient in terms of space usage, the proposed algorithm is important especially for densely wired printed circuit boards such as pin grid array packages, ball grid array packages, and multichip modules. We can also expect improvements on the electrical characteristics and the production yield by applying wire-spreading and wire-fattening to them. Toshiyuki Hama, Hiroaki Etoh |

| 1998 | Curvilinear Detailed Routing Algorithm and Its Extension to Wire-Spreading and Wire-FatteningabstractThis article describes an algorithm for curvilinear detailed routing. Since the curvilinear detailed routing is efficient in terms of space usage, the proposed algorithm is important especially for densely wired printed circuit boards such as PGA packages, BGA packages, and MCMs. We can also expect improvements on the electrical characteristics and the production yield by applying wire-spreading and wire-fattening to them.
