| 2025 | MindPainter: Efficient Brain-Conditioned Painting of Natural Images via Cross-Modal Self-Supervised LearningabstractDespite significant advancements in image and text conditional image editing, the exploration of using brain signals, which are more direct and personalized to reflect user intentions, remains limited. An intuitive method is to convert implicit brain signals into explicit representations such as images, which can then serve as prompts for editing. However, such two-stage method suffers from low inference efficiency, inaccurate brain interpretation, and unnatural editing results. In this paper, we apply brain signals of visual perception as prompts and propose a cross-modal self-supervised learning for natural image painting (MindPainter). This method achieves efficient and natural brain-conditioned image editing in a straightforward manner. MindPainter is trained for reconstruction from masked images directly with pseudo-brain signals, which is simulated by the proposed Pseudo Brain Generator. It facilitates efficient cross-modal integration. The proposed Brain Adapter further eliminates the gap in implicit space between modalities, ensuring accurate semantic interpretation of brain signals and coherent consolidation. Besides, the designed Multi-Mask Generation Policy enhances the generalization, realizing high-quality editing in various painting scenarios, including inpainting and outpainting. To the best of our knowledge, MindPainter is the first work to achieve efficient brain-conditioned image painting, providing potential for direct brain control in creative AI. | 2025 | MindCustomer: Multi-Context Image Generation Blended with Brain SignalabstractAdvancements in generative models have promoted text- and image-based multi-context image generation. Brain signals, offering a direct representation of user intent, present new opportunities for image customization. However, it faces challenges in brain interpretation, cross-modal context fusion and retention. In this paper, we present MindCustomer to explore the blending of visual brain signals in multi-context image generation. We first design shared neural data augmentation for stable cross-subject brain embedding by introducing the Image-Brain Translator (IBT) to generate brain responses from visual images. Then, we propose an effective cross-modal information fusion pipeline that mask-freely adapts distinct semantics from image and brain contexts within a diffusion model. It resolves semantic conflicts for context preservation and enables harmonious context integration. During the fusion pipeline, we further utilize the IBT to transfer image context to the brain representation to mitigate the cross-modal disparity. MindCustomer enables cross-subject generation, delivering unified, high-quality, and natural image outputs. Moreover, it exhibits strong generalization for new subjects via few-shot learning, indicating the potential for practical application. As the first work for multi-context blending with brain signal, MindCustomer lays a foundational exploration and inspiration for future brain-controlled generative technologies. | 2021 | Interpreting Attributions and Interactions of Adversarial AttacksabstractThis paper aims to explain adversarial attacks in terms of how adversarial perturbations contribute to the attacking task. We estimate attributions of different image regions to the decrease of the attacking cost based on the Shapley value. We define and quantify interactions among adversarial perturbation pixels, and decompose the entire perturbation map into relatively independent perturbation components. The decomposition of the perturbation map shows that adversarially-trained DNNs have more perturbation components in the foreground than normally-trained DNNs. Moreover, compared to the normally-trained DNN, the adversarially-trained DNN have more components which mainly decrease the score of the true category. Above analyses provide new insights into the understanding of adversarial attacks. Xin Wang 0108, Shuyun Lin, Hao Zhang 0063, Quanshi Zhang |
