| 2025 | Development of a Segmented Stator with Integrated Oil Cooling of a PMSM Using Additive ManufacturingabstractThe paper deals with development of an FeSi3 additively manufactured (AM) nine-phase radial-flux permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) compact unit with segmented stator core and integrated oil cooling. The analytical design is verified by the Finite element method. Numerical calculations were also used to analyze the cooling oil flow and heat transfer in the cooling axial channels. The proposed concept demonstrates a novel combination of multiphase drive architecture, additive manufacturing, and embedded cooling for next-generation electric drives. | 2025 | Sodium-Ion Batteries for Energy Storage Systems: Verification of Properties and Construction of a Small-Scale Battery Storage UnitabstractThis paper describes and tests Sodium-Ion batteries, a new type of battery that is beginning to be supplied for industrial use. The aim of the work is to verify the battery's properties in order to develop and design a BMS (Battery Management System) unit capable of operating with this type of battery. The tested properties were subsequently implemented into the BMS unit. A test stand was built using the BMS unit, which features both active and passive balancing. Compared to lithium-based batteries, sodium-ion batteries promise higher safety and lower cost, making them a strong candidate for future large-scale energy storage solutions. | 2023 | A Stator Turn Fault Indicator Based on Saturation Saliency for Online Inter-Turn Short Circuit Faults Detection in IPMSM DrivesabstractThis paper deals with the design and real-time implementation of a stator turn fault (STF) indicator for online detection of inter-turn short circuit (ITSC) faults in interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) drives. First an evaluation function is defined based on the average value of the spatial saturation harmonic of the machine over an observation window during the online operation of the drive. Then, based on the value of the load current, a correction factor is set for each condition using a look-up table (LUT) to eliminate the dependency of the saturation saliency on the load current. Finally the STF indicator is obtained by dividing the evaluation function by the correction factor for each load condition. A developped hardware FFT processor is used to extract the saturation saliency from the transient inductance of the machine, estimated online by applying an excitation with voltage pulses using the switching of the inverter and then measuring the resulting current slope. The model is embedded into a field programmable gate array (FPGA) and experimental testing is used to evaluate the performance of the proposed STF indicator on a dedicated designed IPMSM with modified stator windings. | 2021 | Detection of Interturn Short-Circuits of E-Bike BLDC motorabstractThe interturn short-circuit is one of the most often failures of electric motors which can lead to serious consequences with the irreversible damage of the whole drive. The detection of these short-circuits is a challenging task depending also on the parameters of the winding of the analyzed machine. The equivalent circuit parameters are minimally affected if the winding consists of a high number of parallel wires, and only a single turn of one parallel wire is short-circuited. The measurement of additional Joule losses are then expected to be the most proper approach; the special rotor and testing stand for this purpose is designed in this paper to ensure easy manipulation with the measured stators. | 2020 | Measurement of the Effects of Higher Harmonic Injection on Nine-phase Induction MotorabstractThis paper deals with an experimental injection of harmonics to a stator winding of a nine-phase machine. Different combinations of the harmonic components are applied with the optimal magnitudes calculated by a linear programming to maximize exploitation of a magnetic circuit. The theoretical analysis provides magnetic flux waveforms including distribution in the air gap. Thanks to the prototype of the nine-phase induction machine with in-built test coils wound on the stator tooth and the magnetic pole, the magnetic flux waveforms calculated in the theoretical analysis are verified by those obtained by the experimental measurements.
