2010 TV program segmentation using text-visual analysis
abstract
In this paper, we propose a method for detecting semantic segments in a live TV program using closed captions and visual features. Since the unseen closed captions and video frames become available as time passes in live broadcasting, we first divide the currently available video into two groups by computing the segmentation costs, which are the linear combination of the textual and visual segmentation costs. Then, we discover the segment boundaries by computing the stabilities of the segmentations with additional data feed. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the previous work on both precision and recall while processing live TV programs in real-time.

2010 Social recommendation and visual analysis on the TV
abstract
In this paper, we present prototype interactive TV software that incorporates visual content analysis tools and social networking in the home TV. We present the challenges of working with the living room TV environment and outline how we have utilized visual processing and search technologies to address these challenges and create a novel prototype interactive TV system.

2009 Enhancing the Functionality of Interactive TV with Content-Based Multimedia Analysis
abstract
In this paper we describe how content-based analysis techniques can be used to provide much greater functionality to the users of an interactive TV (iTV) device. We describe several content-based multimedia analysis techniques and how some of these can be exploited in the iTV domain, resulting in the provision of a set of powerful functions for iTV users. To validate our ideas, we introduce an iTV application we developed which incorporates some of these techniques into a simple set of user features, in order to demonstrate the usefulness of content-based techniques for iTV. The contribution of this paper is not to provide an in-depth discussion on each of the individual content-based techniques, but rather to show how many of these powerful technologies can be incorporated into an interactive TV system.

2008 A Method for Watching Multiple Channels Simultaneously in a Digital Television
abstract
Despite the many advantages in digital TV, users get into difficulties when they navigate channels to find their preferred program. Multiple PIP or mosaic style display which displays multiple channels in a screen simultaneously can be considered as good way to help easy channel navigation. In this paper, we propose a method that can display multiple channels with limited number of tuners in a digital TV. This gives users a good way to help easy channel navigation in the digital TV environment.

2004 Scene-based watermarking method for copy protection using image complexity and motion vector amplitude
abstract
In this paper we propose a new watermarking method based on scene segmentation for copy protection in hard disk drive embedded digital broadcast receivers. First, video sequence is segmented as scenes using the macroblock types of B-picture in the MPEG compressed domain. Second, for each scene, different embedding parameters are determined from the image complexity and motion vector amplitude. For copy protection, copy control watermark information is embedded in the content whether the content is copyrighted or not. By using this method, invisibility and robustness of watermark, which are the basic requirements of watermarks, are satisfied at the same time.
