2004 Dynamic partitioning based call admission control for integrated services wireless mobile networks
abstract
Call admission control for multimedia wireless networks providing integrated services is considered. Performance evaluation of the reserve channels CAC strategy with dynamic partitioning for a wireless cell serving three customer classes is carried out. Each customer class has different bandwidth and channel holding time requirements which correspond to voice, data and video respectively. The wireless cell serves newly arriving as well as customers handed over from nearby cells. A number of channels are dynamically reserved for the sole use of handoff customers to reduce the probability of handoff call dropping. A solution technique is developed and the performance of the system is obtained. It is found that new and handoff customers which require more channels for their service are blocked more. Also, server utilization is much improved when the arrival rate of higher bandwidth requiring customers is high.

2003 Performance Analysis of the Threshold CAC Strategy for Multimedia Traffic in Wireless Networks
abstract
Performance modeling and evaluation of the threshold call admission control (CAC) strategy in a wireless cell serving two types of customers; narrowband (n-type) customers whish require 1 channel and wideband (w-type) customers which require b/sup w/ /spl ges/ 1 channels is performed. The steady state probabilities, p(K) of the system for the threshold CAC strategy are computed using a modified matrix algorithmic technique. The results show that the handoff call loss probabilities can be made as small as possible with the use of appropriate threshold values for the new call attempts.

2003 Performance of CAC strategies for multimedia traffic in wireless networks
abstract
Call admission control (CAC) strategies for multimedia traffic in wireless networks is studied. A wireless network cell serving two types of customers; narrowband customers, which require one channel and wideband customers, which require b/sub w//spl ges/1 channels is considered. Two CAC strategies; reserve channels strategy (RCS) and threshold strategy (TS) are applied to the wireless cell and their performances are compared. The results show that in most operating conditions, the RCS has a lower blocking probability and probability of handoff call dropping than the TS. Only in the case when the wideband traffic is higher than the narrowband traffic that the weighted probability of handoff call dropping becomes higher for the RCS. Mean server utilization is lower for the threshold CAC than for the reserve channels CAC strategy at most operating conditions.

2002 Performance evaluation of a CAC strategy for broadband networks
abstract
A broadband network (e.g. ATM or B-ISDN) node with m-channels of equal capacity and two types of customer arrivals under the complete sharing (CS) call admission control (CAC) strategy is analyzed. The two customer arrival types are; narrowband (n-type) which requires 1 channel (basic bandwidth unit, BBU) and wideband, (w-type) which requires b/sub w/ /spl ges/ 1 channels of the m available BBUs. W-type customers are queued in an infinite buffer while n-type customers are served in a "blocked calls cleared" fashion. Neuts' (1994) matrix analytic approach is used in analyzing the system. Neuts presents the solution to the system equations for the case of w-type customers requiring only 1 channel. In this work, this approach is generalized to include the case of w-type customers requiring b/sub w/ > 1 channels. Numerical examples for the blocking probability, the mean waiting time in the queue and the mean server utilization are presented. The analytic results are validated through system simulation. It is shown that both results are in good agreement. Evaluation and computation techniques applicable to the problem are also discussed.

2000 Non-Exhaustive Channel Access Strategy in Multi-Resource Communication Systems with Non-Homogeneous Traffic
abstract
In this paper, channel access in multi-resource communication systems with non-homogeneous traffic under the condition of non-exhaustive channel allocation is investigated. The mathematical model of the system is developed and a new efficiency algorithm for calculation of the system behavior is obtained. Numerical calculations for a sample system using the algorithm developed is carried out and results including the optimization of the model are obtained.
