| 2025 | MEFusion: Memory-Efficient Data Fusion for Real-Time 3D Reconstruction On Resource-Constrained DevicesabstractOnline semantic 3D modeling from streaming RGB-D data fundamentally requires consistent fusion of 2D segmentation. Popular approaches address segmentation inconsistencies through histogram-based label aggregation, where each 3D element (point/voxel) maintains the frequency of candidate labels, which introduces prohibitive memory and computational overhead for resource-constrained devices. In response to this challenge, we propose MEFusion, a memory-efficient probabilistic fusion framework to avoid element-wise histogram aggregation. Specifically, we propose an element-wise probability update algorithm based on Bayesian Estimation, where each voxel stores only one instance label and updates it based on a posterior probability to maintain segmentation consistency. Following 3D segmentation, we establish a segment-wise voting framework to aggregate the semantic labels from historical data, where co-segment voxels share the semantic voting histogram, for semantic consistency. Our experiments demonstrate that our method achieves a memory reduction of 77%(85%) and a speed improvement of 58%(6.12x) on the desktop (embedded) platform while maintaining comparable reconstruction accuracy to the state-of-the-art point-cloud-based method. | 2025 | AR-Light: Enabling Fast and Lightweight Multi-User Augmented Reality via Semantic Segmentation and Collaborative View SynchronizationabstractMulti-user Augmented Reality (MuAR) allows multiple users to interact with shared virtual objects, facilitated by exchanging environment information. Current MuAR systems rely on 3D point clouds for real-world analysis, view synchronization, object rendering, and movement tracking. However, the complexity of 3D point clouds leads to significant processing delays, with approximately 80% of overhead in commercial frameworks. This hampers usability and degrades user experience. Our analysis reveals that maintaining the facing side of the real-world scene in a stable environment provides sufficient information for virtual object placement and rendering. To address this, we introduce a lightweight quadtree structure, representing 2D scenes through semantic segmentation and geometry, as an alternative to 3D point clouds. Additionally, we propose a novel correction method to handle potential shifts in virtual object placement during view synchronization among users. Combining all designs, we implement a fast and lightweight MuAR framework namedAR-Lightand test our framework on commercial AR devices. The evaluation results on real-world applications demonstrate that AR-Light can achieve high performance in various real-world scenes while maintaining a comparable virtual object placement accuracy. | 2023 | Similarity-navigated graph neural networks for node classificationabstractGraph Neural Networks are effective in learning representations of graph-structured data. Some recent works are devoted to addressing heterophily, which exists ubiquitously in real-world networks, breaking the homophily assumption that nodes belonging to the same class are more likely to be connected and restricting the generalization of traditional methods in tasks such as node classification. However, these heterophily-oriented methods still lose efficacy in some typical heterophilic datasets. Moreover, issues on leveraging the knowledge from both node features and graph structure and investigating inherent properties of the datasets still need further consideration. In this work, we first provide insights based on similarity metrics to interpret the long-existing confusion that simple models sometimes perform better than models dedicated to heterophilic networks. Then, sticking to these insights and the classification principle of narrowing the intra-class distance and enlarging the inter-class distance of the sample's embeddings, we propose a Similarity-Navigated Graph Neural Network (SNGNN) which uses Node Similarity matrix coupled with mean aggregation operation instead of the normalized adjacency matrix in the neighborhood aggregation process. Moreover, based on SNGNN, a novel explicitly aggregating mechanism for selecting similar neighbors, named SNGNN+, is devised to preserve distinguishable features and handle the heterophilic problem. Additionally, a variant, SNGNN++, is further designed to adaptively integrate the knowledge from both node features and graph structure for improvement. Extensive experiments are conducted and demonstrate that our proposed framework outperforms the state-of-the-art methods for both small-scale and large-scale graphs regardless of their heterophilic extent. | 2021 | Line Art Colorization Based on Explicit Region SegmentationabstractAbstract Automatic line art colorization plays an important role in anime and comic industry. While existing methods for line art colorization are able to generate plausible colorized results, they tend to suffer from the color bleeding issue. We introduce an explicit segmentation fusion mechanism to aid colorization frameworks in avoiding color bleeding artifacts. This mechanism is able to provide region segmentation information for the colorization process explicitly so that the colorization model can learn to avoid assigning the same color across regions with different semantics or inconsistent colors inside an individual region. The proposed mechanism is designed in a plug‐and‐play manner, so it can be applied to a diversity of line art colorization frameworks with various kinds of user guidances. We evaluate this mechanism in tag‐based and reference‐based line art colorization tasks by incorporating it into the state‐of‐the‐art models. Comparisons with these existing models corroborate the effectiveness of our method which largely alleviates the color bleeding artifacts. | 2020 | InstanceFusion: Real-time Instance-level 3D Reconstruction Using a Single RGBD CameraabstractAbstract We present InstanceFusion, a robust real‐time system to detect, segment, and reconstruct instance‐level 3D objects of indoor scenes with a hand‐held RGBD camera. It combines the strengths of deep learning and traditional SLAM techniques to produce visually compelling 3D semantic models. The key success comes from our novel segmentation scheme and the efficient instance‐level data fusion, which are both implemented on GPU. Specifically, for each incoming RGBD frame, we take the advantages of the RGBD features, the 3D point cloud, and the reconstructed model to perform instance‐level segmentation. The corresponding RGBD data along with the instance ID are then fused to the surfel‐based models. In order to sufficiently store and update these data, we design and implement a new data structure using the OpenGL Shading Language. Experimental results show that our method advances the state‐of‐the‐art (SOTA) methods in instance segmentation and data fusion by a big margin. In addition, our instance segmentation improves the precision of 3D reconstruction, especially in the loop closure. InstanceFusion system runs 20.5Hz on a consumer‐level GPU, which supports a number of augmented reality (AR) applications (e.g., 3D model registration, virtual interaction, AR map) and robot applications (e.g., navigation, manipulation, grasping). To facilitate future research and reproduce our system more easily, the source code, data, and the trained model are released on Github: https://github.com/Fancomi2017/InstanceFusion .
