2011 Quadtree classified vector quantization based image retrieval scheme
abstract
With the fast development of multimedia, it is crucial to find the way to search image database effectively. The vector quantization (VQ) based image retrieval method is popular in recent years. In this paper, we propose the quadtree classified vector quantization (QCVQ) scheme to improve the VQ method by exploiting the visual importance of image blocks and using the edge information to describe the content of each block efficiently. Moreover, we also apply the adaptive block size. The simulation results show that, compared with the previous image retrieval algorithms using VQ and chromaticity moments (CM), our proposed scheme has obviously better average retrieval rate and higher average precision.

1999 Multiprimitive Segmentation of Planar Curves-A Two-Level Breakpoint Classification and Tuning Approach
abstract
A breakpoint classification and tuning approach is proposed for the multiprimitive segmentation of planar curves, and cockhead-like graph is suggested to evaluate the multiprimitive segmentation algorithms. The breakpoints are divided into corners and smooth joints and the types of the segments on both sides of a breakpoint are identified. Then, a joint tuning procedure is exercised to merge/split segments and adjust the joint locations. The carefully designed cockhead-like graph includes all possible combinations and parameters of line and are segments and serves as a benchmark to test the algorithms. The proposed scheme is simple, fast, threshold-free and robust to quantization and preprocessing errors, thus allowing it to be employed in a variety of applications such as matching and recognition. Test against the suggested benchmark and comparison with those in the literature assures the superiority of the method suggested.

1998 Representation of 3D Surfaces by Two-Variable Fourier Descriptors
abstract
A method for generating two-variable 3D FDs directly from a striped lighting system is developed. An iterative algorithm is proposed to compute the two-variable 3D FDs for both axisymmetric and nonaxisymmetric objects and a formula for convergence test is derived. Experiments conducted for a set of 3D objects show that the iterative algorithm converges very quickly and the two-variable 3D FD representations are attained accurately.
