2025 DressRecon: Freeform 4D Human Reconstruction from Monocular Video
abstract
We present a method to reconstruct time-consistent human body models from monocular videos, focusing on extremely loose clothing or handheld object interactions. Prior work in human reconstruction is either limited to tight clothing with no object interactions, or requires calibrated multi- view captures or personalized template scans which are costly to collect at scale. Our key insight for high-quality yet flexible reconstruction is the careful combination of generic human priors about articulated body shape (learned from large-scale training data) with video-specific articulated “bag-of-bones” deformation (fit to a single video via test-time optimization). We accomplish this by learning a neural implicit model that disentangles body versus clothing deformations as separate motion model layers. To capture subtle geometry of clothing, we leverage image-based priors such as human body pose, surface normals, and optical flow during optimization. The resulting neural fields can be extracted into time-consistent meshes, or further optimized as explicit 3D Gaussians for high-fidelity interactive rendering. On datasets with highly challenging clothing deformations and object interactions, Dress-Recon yields higher-fidelity 3D reconstructions than prior art. 2025 DiffusionSfM: Predicting Structure and Motion via Ray Origin and Endpoint Diffusion
abstract
Current Structure-from-Motion (SfM) methods typically follow a two-stage pipeline, combining learned or geometric pairwise reasoning with a subsequent global optimization step. In contrast, we propose a data-driven multi-view reasoning approach that directly infers 3D scene geometry and camera poses from multi-view images. Our framework, DiffusionSfM, parameterizes scene geometry and cameras as pixel-wise ray origins and endpoints in a global frame and employs a transformer-based denoising diffusion model to predict them from multi-view inputs. To address practical challenges in training diffusion models with missing data and unbounded scene coordinates, we introduce specialized mechanisms that ensure robust learning. We empirically validate DiffusionSfM on both synthetic and real datasets, demonstrating that it outperforms classical and learning-based approaches while naturally modeling uncertainty.

2025 MonoFusion: Sparse-View 4D Reconstruction via Monocular Fusion
abstract
We address the problem of dynamic scene reconstruction from sparse-view videos. Prior work often requires dense multi-view captures with hundreds of calibrated cameras (e.g. Panoptic Studio). Such multi-view setups are prohibitively expensive to build and cannot capture diverse scenes in-the-wild. In contrast, we aim to reconstruct dynamic human behaviors, such as repairing a bike or dancing, from a small set of sparse-view cameras with complete scene coverage (e.g. four equidistant inward-facing static cameras). We find that dense multi-view reconstruction methods struggle to adapt to this sparse-view setup due to limited overlap between viewpoints. To address these limitations, we carefully align independent monocular reconstructions of each camera to produce time- and view-consistent dynamic scene reconstructions. Extensive experiments on PanopticStudio and Ego-Exo4D demonstrate that our method achieves higher quality reconstructions than prior art, particularly when rendering novel views. Code, data, and data-processing scripts are available on https://github.com/Z1hanW/MonoFusion.

2023 Distilling Neural Fields for Real-Time Articulated Shape Reconstruction
abstract
We present a method for reconstructing articulated 3D models from videos in real-time, without test-time optimization or manual 3D supervision at training time. Prior work often relies on pre-built deformable models (e.g. SMAL/SMPL), or slow perscene optimization through differentiable rendering (e.g. dynamic NeRFs). Such methods fail to support arbitrary object categories, or are unsuitable for real-time applications. To address the challenge of collecting large-scale 3D training data for arbitrary deformable object categories, our key insight is to use off-the-shelf video-based dynamic NeRFs as 3D supervision to train a fast feed-forward network, turning 3D shape and motion prediction into a supervised distillation task. Our temporal-aware network uses articulated bones and blend skinning to represent arbitrary deformations, and is self-supervised on video datasets without requiring 3D shapes or viewpoints as input. Through distillation, our network learns to 3D-reconstruct unseen articulated objects at interactive frame rates. Our method yields higher-fidelity 3D reconstructions than prior real-time methods for animals, with the ability to render realistic images at novel viewpoints and poses.

2023 NeRF-IBVS: Visual Servo Based on NeRF for Visual Localization and Navigation
abstract
Visual localization is a fundamental task in computer vision and robotics. Training existing visual localization methods requires a large number of posed images to generalize to novel views, while state-of-the-art methods generally require dense ground truth 3D labels for supervision. However, acquiring a large number of posed images and dense 3D labels in the real world is challenging and costly. In this paper, we present a novel visual localization method that achieves accurate localization while using only a few posed images compared to other localization methods. To achieve this, we first use a few posed images with coarse pseudo-3D labels provided by NeRF to train a coordinate regression network. Then a coarse pose is estimated from the regression network with PNP. Finally, we use the image-based visual servo (IBVS) with the scene prior provided by NeRF for pose optimization. Furthermore, our method can provide effective navigation prior, which enable navigation based on IBVS without using custom markers and depth sensor. Extensive experiments on 7-Scenes and 12-Scenes datasets demonstrate that our method outperforms state-of-the-art methods under the same setting, with only 5\% to 25\% training data. Furthermore, our framework can be naturally extended to the visual navigation task based on IBVS, and its effectiveness is verified in simulation experiments.
