| 2016 | Exposing library data with big data technology: A reviewabstractLibraries play an important role at the intersections of government, universities, research institutes, and the public since they are storing and managing digital assets. The large amount of data and those data in library need to be transformed into information or knowledge which then be used by researchers or users. Librarians might need to understand how to transform, analyze, and present data in order to facilitate knowledge creation. For example, they should know how to make big datasets more useful, visible and accessible. With new and powerful analytics of big data, such as information visualization tools, researchers/users can look at data in new ways and mine it for information they intend to have. In this work, we discussed the characteristics of datasets in library, conducted a review for the research work on library big data and then summarized the applications in this field. The issues associated with it were also discussed and explored. Chunning Wang, Shaochun Xu, Lichao Chen |

| 2016 | A comparative study on black-box testing with open source applicationsabstractAlthough a lot of researches have been carried out to evaluate efficiency and effectiveness of different testing techniques there is still lacking of experimental work on functional testing, particularly for black-box testing on open-source software. In this work, four black-box testing techniques were chosen to test on two open source applications. The results have confirmed some conclusions which were obtained on closed-source software. In addition, a few new observations have also been obtained. Shaochun Xu, Lichao Chen, Chunning Wang, Oleksandr Rud |

| 2015 | Some observations on online advertising: A new advertising systemabstractThe effectiveness of on-line advertising is the key to the success of e-commerce. This paper discussed current status and new opportunities for online advertising, one of critical factors for successful e-commerce. With in-depth discussions and our working experience in a US based company, we also proposed a new advertising platform, Cicadida.com, which implemented a few new ideas we discussed. | 2015 | The application of graph algorithms: A reference mapping toolabstractThere have been some software tools of managing references when researchers prepare for their research publications, such as zotero and endnote. During last several years, developers of these kinds of tools tried to design a new feature or interface that can be used to visualize the “reference relations” between scientific articles. However, probably because of the complexity of formatting reference data and the data inconsistency between different data sources, it seems that only a few existing tools have implemented similar but limited feature. In this study, we compared different graph algorithms and selected the most appropriate one to model and further implement the reference network. We also designed and implemented a reference mapping software which could demonstrate the relation network between scientific publications. A detailed evaluation on the tool was also provided. | 2010 | An Approach to Match Semantic Web Services Based on MultidimensionabstractDue to the availability of huge number of Web Services (WSs), calculating similarity between services is still a challenge. Usually, the similarity is measured in different dimensions, i.e. input/output parameters, QoS, correlations between preconditions and effects, etc. In this paper, we present an approach to measuring the degree of similarity between semantic web services considering multiple dimensions as a whole. It can integrate the results obtained from different matching algorithms in a generic and customizable manner. So that, the user may determine the relative importance of each dimension and obtain a single rank for candidates services matching a given service. Binhong Xie, Lichao Chen |
