2016 UX Heatmaps: Mapping User Experience on Visual Interfaces
abstract
In this paper, we present an off-the-shelf UX evaluation tool which contextualizes users' physiological and behavioral signals while interacting with a system. The proposed tool triangulates users' gaze data with inferred users' cognitive and emotional states to produce user experience (UX) heatmaps, which show where users were looking when they experienced specific cognitive and emotional states. Results show that for a given cognitive state (i.e., cognitive load), the proposed UX heatmap was able to effectively highlight the areas where users experienced different levels of cognitive load on an interface. The proposed tool enables the visual analysis of users' various emotional and cognitive states for specific areas on a given interface, and also to compare users' states across multiple interfaces, which should be useful for both UX researchers and practitioners.

2014 Automatic Stress Classification With Pupil Diameter Analysis
abstract
This article proposes a method based on wavelet transform and neural networks for relating pupillary behavior to psychological stress. The proposed method was tested by recording pupil diameter and electrodermal activity during a simulated driving task. Self-report measures were also collected. Participants performed a baseline run with the driving task only, followed by three stress runs where they were required to perform the driving task along with sound alerts, the presence of two human evaluators, and both. Self-reports and pupil diameter successfully indexed stress manipulation, and significant correlations were found between these measures. However, electrodermal activity did not vary accordingly. After training, the four-way parallel neural network classifier could guess whether a given unknown pupil diameter signal came from one of the four experimental trials with 79.2% precision. The present study shows that pupil diameter signal has good discriminating power for stress detection.

2011 Prediction of the inter-observer visual congruency (IOVC) and application to image ranking
abstract
This paper proposes an automatic method for predicting the inter-observer visual congruency (IOVC). The IOVC reflects the congruence or the variability among different subjects looking at the same image. Predicting this congruence is of interest for image processing applications where the visual perception of a picture matters such as website design, advertisement, etc. This paper makes several new contributions. First, a computational model of the IOVC is proposed. This new model is a mixture of low-level visual features extracted from the input picture where model's parameters are learned by using a large eye-tracking database. Once the parameters have been learned, it can be used for any new picture. Second, regarding low-level visual feature extraction, we propose a new scheme to compute the depth of field of a picture. Finally, once the training and the feature extraction have been carried out, a score ranging from 0 (minimal congruency) to 1 (maximal congruency) is computed. A value of 1 indicates that observers would focus on the same locations and suggests that the picture presents strong locations of interest. A second database of eye movements is used to assess the performance of the proposed model. Results show that our IOVC criterion outperforms the Feature Congestion measure \cite{Rosenholtz2007}. To illustrate the interest of the proposed model, we have used it to automatically rank personalized photograph.
