2025 Angular Steering: Behavior Control via Rotation in Activation Space
abstract
Controlling specific behaviors in large language models while preserving their general capabilities is a central challenge for safe and reliable artificial intelligence deployment. Current steering methods, such as vector addition and directional ablation, are constrained within a two-dimensional subspace defined by the activation and feature direction, making them sensitive to chosen parameters and potentially affecting unrelated features due to unintended interactions in activation space. We introduce Angular Steering, a novel and flexible method for behavior modulation that operates by rotating activations within a fixed two-dimensional subspace. By formulating steering as a geometric rotation toward or away from a target behavior direction, Angular Steering provides continuous, fine-grained control over behaviors such as refusal and compliance. We demonstrate this method using refusal steering emotion steering as use cases. Additionally, we propose Adaptive Angular Steering, a selective variant that rotates only activations aligned with the target feature, further enhancing stability and coherence. Angular Steering generalizes existing addition and orthogonalization techniques under a unified geometric rotation framework, simplifying parameter selection and maintaining model stability across a broader range of adjustments. Experiments across multiple model families and sizes show that Angular Steering achieves robust behavioral control while maintaining general language modeling performance, underscoring its flexibility, generalization, and robustness compared to prior approaches. 2024 Contextualized AI for Cyber Defense: An Automated Survey Using LLMs
abstract
This paper surveys the potential of contextualized AI in enhancing cyber defense capabilities, revealing significant research growth from 2015 to 2024. We identify a focus on robustness, reliability, and integration methods, while noting gaps in organizational trust and governance frameworks. Our study employs two LLM-assisted literature survey methodologies: (A) ChatGPT 4 for exploration, and (B) Gemma 2:9b for filtering with Claude 3.5 Sonnet for full-text analysis. We discuss the effectiveness and challenges of using LLMs in academic research, providing insights for future researchers.

2022 Evaluation of an Augmented Reality Approach to Better Understanding Diverse End User Website Usage Challenges
abstract
End users with disabilities face many limitations with online accessibility. Efforts to tackle the problems of testing for these problems have not yet been sufficient. In this paper we describe an evaluation of Funkify, an augmented reality tool to simulate diverse end users’ experiences and challenges when interacting with software. The research evaluates the tool’s effectiveness for software engineers use in emulating four diverse end user challenges using a heuristics-based evaluation and cognitive walk-throughs on three target websites. Our results show that the tool successfully simulates the target personas’ challenges varying extent, with some noticeable limitations. We provide suggestions for extensions to Funkify as well as AR tools in general.
