2024 HQ-Avatar: Towards High-Quality 3D Avatar Generation via Point-based Representation
abstract
Despite the flourishing of 3D object generation, generating high-quality digital avatars with detailed geometry and texture that are free to animate remains a challenging task. Existing avatar generation techniques often suffer from limitations such as low-quality geometry and blurry texture. Thus, we propose HQ-Avatar, a novel method for generating animatable avatars with high-quality geometry and texture. We enhance the geometry quality by proposing an importance sampling strategy and capturing intricate details through learned normal maps. To achieve high-quality texture, we present a neural point-based avatar representation, which enables high-resolution rendering results at a resolution of 10242, allowing detailed supervision. Extensive experiments on THuman2.0 dataset demonstrate the superiority of our method over state-of-the-art techniques in generating high-quality avatars. Furthermore, we show the applicability of our method by employing it as 3D priors to simplify the human avatar reconstruction process from scans or even single images. 2024 An End-to-End, Low-Cost, and High-Fidelity 3D Video Pipeline for Mobile Devices
abstract
To provide full-body 3D videos of performers showcasing diverse clothes with dynamic movements for e-commerce platforms, we develop an end-to-end, low-cost, and high-fidelity production and deployment pipeline. We first set up a low-cost capture studio with only 24 RGB cameras and embrace fast neural surface reconstruction to produce high-quality meshes without depth information. We then quickly group all the frames with local motion priors, select a keyframe for each group, and accurately register any other frame to the keyframe under the guidance of semantic labels, thereby avoiding transmitting all the frames to mobile devices and loading them into memory. For real-time rendering, we propose an on-device sparse computation method for efficient deformation from keyframes to the other frames. Evaluation over 2 self-captured performances and 8 public performances reveals that the pipeline achieves the reconstruction time of 28 minutes per frame, the average PSNR of 30.4, the average bandwidth requirement of 4.2MB/s, and the on-device frame rate of 60 fps, demonstrating superiority over existing baselines.

2022 Video2Subtitle: Matching Weakly-Synchronized Sequences via Dynamic Temporal Alignment
abstract
This paper investigates a new research task in multimedia analysis, dubbed as Video2Subtitle. The goal of this task is to finding the most plausible subtitle from a large pool for a querying video clip. We assume that the temporal duration of each sentence in a subtitle is unknown. Compared with existing cross-modal matching tasks, the proposed Video2Subtitle confronts several new challenges. In particular, video frames / subtitle sentences are temporally ordered, respectively, yet no precise synchronization is available. This casts Video2Subtitle into a problem of matching weakly-synchronized sequences. In this work, our technical contributions are two-fold. First, we construct a large-scale benchmark for the Video2Subtitle task. It consists of about 100K video clip / subtitle pairs with a full duration of 759 hours. All data are automatically trimmed from conversational sub-parts of movies and youtube videos. Secondly, an ideal algorithm for tackling Video2Subtitle requires both temporal synchronization of the visual / textual sequences, but also strong semantic consistency between two modalities. To this end, we propose a novel algorithm with the key traits of heterogeneous multi-cue fusion and dynamic temporal alignment. The proposed method demonstrates excellent performances in comparison with several state-of-the-art cross-modal matching methods. Additionally, we also depict a few interesting applications of Video2Subtitle, such as re-generating subtitle for given videos.
