2025 NVComposer: Boosting Generative Novel View Synthesis with Multiple Sparse and Unposed Images
abstract
Recent advancements in generative models have significantly improved novel view synthesis (NVS) from multi-view data. However, existing methods depend on external multiview alignment processes, such as explicit pose estimation or pre-reconstruction, which limits their flexibility and accessibility, especially when alignment is unstable due to insufficient overlap or occlusions between views. In this paper, we propose NVComposer, a novel approach that eliminates the need for explicit external alignment. NVComposer enables the generative model to implicitly infer spatial and geometric relationships between multiple conditional views by introducing two key components: 1) an image-pose dualstream diffusion model that simultaneously generates target novel views and condition camera poses, and 2) a geometry-aware feature alignment module that distills geometric priors from dense stereo models during training. Extensive experiments demonstrate that NVComposer achieves state-of-the-art performance in generative multi-view NVS tasks, removing the reliance on external alignment and thus improving model accessibility. Our approach shows substantial improvements in synthesis quality as the number of unposed input views increases, highlighting its potential for more flexible and accessible generative NVS systems.

2025 PolarFree: Polarization-based Reflection-Free Imaging
abstract
Reflection removal is challenging due to complex light interactions, where reflections obscure important details and hinder scene understanding. Polarization naturally provides a powerful cue to distinguish between reflected and transmitted light, enabling more accurate reflection removal. However, existing methods often rely on small-scale or synthetic datasets, which fail to capture the diversity and complexity of real-world scenarios. To this end, we construct a large-scale dataset, PolaRGB, for Polarization-based reflection removal of RGB images, which enables us to train models that generalize effectively across a wide range of real-world scenarios. The PolaRGB dataset contains 6,500 well-aligned mixed-transmission image pairs, 8× larger than existing polarization datasets, and is the first to include both RGB and polarization images captured across diverse indoor and outdoor environments with varying lighting conditions. Besides, to fully exploit the potential of polarization cues for reflection removal, we introduce PolarFree, which leverages diffusion process to generate reflection-free cues for accurate reflection removal. Extensive experiments show that PolarFree significantly enhances image clarity in challenging reflective scenarios, setting a new benchmark for polarized imaging and reflection removal. Code and dataset are available at https://github.com/mdyao/PolarFree.

2025 BlobCtrl: Taming Controllable Blob for Element-level Image Editing
abstract
As user expectations for image editing continue to rise, the demand for flexible, fine-grained manipulation of specific visual elements presents a challenge for current diffusion-based methods. In this work, we present BlobCtrl, a framework for element-level image editing based on a probabilistic blob-based representation. Treating blobs as visual primitives, BlobCtrl disentangles layout from appearance, affording fine-grained, controllable object-level elements manipulation. Our key contributions are twofold: 1) an in-context dual-branch diffusion model that separates foreground and background processing, incorporating blob representations to explicitly decouple layout and appearance; and 2) a self-supervised disentangle-then-reconstruct training paradigm with an identity-preserving loss function, along with tailored strategies to efficiently leverage blob-image pairs. To foster further research, we introduce BlobData for large-scale training, and BlobBench, a benchmark for systematic evaluation. Experimental results demonstrate that BlobCtrl achieves state-of-the-art performance in a variety of element-level editing tasks—such as object addition, removal, scaling, and replacement—while maintaining computational efficiency.

2025 Uni-ISP: Toward Unifying the Learning of ISPs From Multiple Mobile Cameras
abstract
Modern end-to-end image signal processors (ISPs) can learn complex mappings from RAW/XYZ data to sRGB (and vice versa), opening new possibilities in image processing. However, the growing diversity of camera models, particularly in mobile devices, renders the development of individual ISPs unsustainable due to their limited versatility and adaptability across varied camera systems. In this paper, we introduce Uni-ISP, a novel pipeline that unifies ISP learning for diverse mobile cameras, delivering a highly accurate and adaptable processor. The core of Uni-ISP is leveraging device-aware embeddings through learning forward/inverse ISPs and its special training scheme. By doing so, Uni-ISP not only improves the performance of forward and inverse ISPs but also unlocks new applications previously inaccessible to conventional learned ISPs. To support this work, we construct a real-world 4K dataset, FiveCam, comprising more than 2,400 pairs of sRGB-RAW images captured synchronously by five smartphone cameras. Extensive experiments validate Uni-ISP's accuracy in learning forward and inverse ISPs (with improvements of +2.4dB/1.5dB PSNR), versatility in enabling new applications, and adaptability to new camera models.

2024 Goal Conditioned Reinforcement Learning for Photo Finishing Tuning
abstract
Photo finishing tuning aims to automate the manual tuning process of the photo finishing pipeline, like Adobe Lightroom or Darktable. Previous works either use zeroth-order optimization, which is slow when the set of parameters increases, or rely on a differentiable proxy of the target finishing pipeline, which is hard to train. To overcome these challenges, we propose a novel goal-conditioned reinforcement learning framework for efficiently tuning parameters using a goal image as a condition. Unlike previous approaches, our tuning framework does not rely on any proxy and treats the photo finishing pipeline as a black box. Utilizing a trained reinforcement learning policy, it can efficiently find the desired set of parameters within just 10 queries, while optimization based approaches normally take 200 queries. Furthermore, our architecture utilizes a goal image to guide the iterative tuning of pipeline parameters, allowing for flexible conditioning on pixel-aligned target images, style images, or any other visually representable goals. We conduct detailed experiments on photo finishing tuning and photo stylization tuning tasks, demonstrating the advantages of our method.

2024 Non-Serial Quantization-Aware Deep Optics for Snapshot Hyperspectral Imaging
abstract
Deep optics has been endeavoring to capture hyperspectral images of dynamic scenes, where the optical encoder plays an essential role in deciding the imaging performance. Our key insight is that the optical encoder of a deep optics system is expected to keep fabrication-friendliness and decoder-friendliness, to be faithfully realized in the implementation phase and fully interacted with the decoder in the design phase, respectively. In this paper, we propose the non-serial quantization-aware deep optics (NSQDO), which consists of the fabrication-friendly quantization-aware model (QAM) and the decoder-friendly non-serial manner (NSM). The QAM integrates the quantization process into the optimization and adaptively adjusts the physical height of each quantization level, reducing the deviation of the physical encoder from the numerical simulation through the awareness of and adaptation to the quantization operation of the DOE physical structure. The NSM bridges the encoder and the decoder with full interaction through bidirectional hint connections and flexibilize the connections with a gating mechanism, boosting the power of joint optimization in deep optics. The proposed NSQDO improves the fabrication-friendliness and decoder-friendliness of the encoder and develops the deep optics framework to be more practical and powerful. Extensive synthetic simulation and real hardware experiments demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed method.

2022 Quantization-aware Deep Optics for Diffractive Snapshot Hyperspectral Imaging
abstract
Diffractive snapshot hyperspectral imaging based on the deep optics framework has been striving to capture the spectral images of dynamic scenes. However, existing deep optics frameworks all suffer from the mismatch between the optical hardware and the reconstruction algorithm due to the quantization operation in the diffractive optical element (DOE) fabrication, leading to the limited performance of hyperspectral imaging in practice. In this paper, we propose the quantization-aware deep optics for diffractive snapshot hyperspectral imaging. Our key observation is that common lithography techniques used in fabricating DOEs need to quantize the DOE height map to a few levels, and can freely set the height for each level. Therefore, we propose to integrate the quantization operation into the DOE height map optimization and design an adaptive mechanism to adjust the physical height of each quantization level. According to the optimization, we fabricate the quantized DOE directly and build a diffractive hyperspectral snapshot imaging system. Our method develops the deep optics framework to be more practical through the awareness of and adaptation to the quantization operation of the DOE physical structure, making the fabricated DOE and the reconstruction algorithm match each other systematically. Extensive synthetic simulation and real hardware experiments validate the superior performance of our method.
