2024 Talking Face Generation With Audio-Deduced Emotional Landmarks
abstract
The goal of talking face generation is to synthesize a sequence of face images of the specified identity, ensuring the mouth movements are synchronized with the given audio. Recently, image-based talking face generation has emerged as a popular approach. It could generate talking face images synchronized with the audio merely depending on a facial image of arbitrary identity and an audio clip. Despite the accessible input, it forgoes the exploitation of the audio emotion, inducing the generated faces to suffer from emotion unsynchronization, mouth inaccuracy, and image quality deficiency. In this article, we build a bistage audio emotion-aware talking face generation (AMIGO) framework, to generate high-quality talking face videos with cross-modally synced emotion. Specifically, we propose a sequence-to-sequence (seq2seq) cross-modal emotional landmark generation network to generate vivid landmarks, whose lip and emotion are both synchronized with input audio. Meantime, we utilize a coordinated visual emotion representation to improve the extraction of the audio one. In stage two, a feature-adaptive visual translation network is designed to translate the synthesized landmarks into facial images. Concretely, we proposed a feature-adaptive transformation module to fuse the high-level representations of landmarks and images, resulting in significant improvement in image quality. We perform extensive experiments on the multi-view emotional audio-visual dataset (MEAD) and crowd-sourced emotional multimodal actors dataset (CREMA-D) benchmark datasets, demonstrating that our model outperforms state-of-the-art benchmarks.

2023 Towards Realistic Conversational Head Generation: A Comprehensive Framework for Lifelike Video Synthesis
abstract
The Vivid Talking Head Video Generation track of the "ACM Multimedia ViCo 2023 Conversational Head Generation Challenge'' aims to generate realistic face-to-face conversation videos based on audio and reference images. However, the direct synthesis of reference videos from audio and reference images poses a significant challenge. In response, we propose a comprehensive method that combines audio-driven 3DMM parameter prediction with a rendering network to generate high-fidelity lip-sync talking head videos. In the first stage, we leverage the audio input to predict the 3DMM parameters, capturing essential facial expressions and head poses needed for realistic video generation. In the second stage, we employ a sophisticated rendering network designed to ensure accurate lip synchronization and natural facial expressions. This network enhances the visual quality and realism of the generated videos. We are delighted to announce that our method achieved first place in the talking head generation track of the challenge and was honored with the People's Selection Award. The source code for our method is accessible1, allowing others to build upon our work and drive further advancements in the field of conversational head generation.

2022 A Baseline for ViCo Conversational Head Generation Challenge
abstract
ViCo conversational head generation challenge is organized in conjunction with ACM Multimedia 2022. The challenge includes two tasks: 1) generating a vivid talking head according to a reference image and driving audio, and 2) synthesizing a listening head conditioned on the reference image and speaker's behaviors. For talking head generation, we design a three-stage method to generate high-quality and lip-sync talking head videos with natural head poses, which wins 3rd place and People's Selection Award. On the listening head generation track, we adopt MakeItTalk to generate vivid head movements of listeners, which achieves 2nd place in the competition.
