2021 A Genetic Algorithm based Scheduling Method for Automotive Ethernet
abstract
Time-sensitive networking (TSN), which is well known as one of deterministic Ethernet, can ensure a real-time property of time-critical traffic by providing various standards. In particular, IEEE 802.1Qbv, which is one of the standards about TSN, can minimize a problem that occurred due to delay by ensuring the real-time transmission of a message that has high priority through scheduling. However, because scheduling messages in TSN is an NP-hard problem as same as the job schedule in a manufacturing process, an optimal schedule is needed to solve the problem. This study proposed a method to optimize a time-critical traffic schedule in TSN using a genetic algorithm. A chromosome in the genetic algorithm consists of messages to be scheduled, and schedules are created by the order of messages arranged in a chromosome. The performance of the chromosome is evaluated through the fitness function, which uses three performance indicators (end-to-end delay, jitter, and bandwidth utilization for guard band) as parameters. Finally, the proposed schedule optimization algorithm was performed over a simulation environment that simulated a real autonomous driving vehicle network to verify the applicability.

2013 3DIC from concept to reality
abstract
3DIC technology presents a new system integration strategy for the electronics industry to achieve superior system performance with lower power consumption, higher bandwidth, smaller system form factor, and shorter time to market through heterogeneous integration. TSMC's “Chip-on-Wafer-on-Substrate (CoWoS)” technology opens up a new opportunity to bring 3D chip stacking vision from concept to reality. The provided methodology will be discussed about this market trend and the different pieces needed to jointly make it a success, which includes customers' required application, TSMC's support design flow, as well as the ecosystem design enablement of multi-die implementation, DFT solution, thermal analysis, verification and new categories of IPs.

2010 Kalman Predictive Redundancy System for Fault Tolerance of Safety-critical Systems
abstract
The dependence of intelligent vehicles on electronic devices is rapidly increasing the concern over fault tolerance due to safety issues. For example, an x-by-wire system, such as electromechanical brake system in which rigid mechanical components are replaced with dynamically configurable electronic elements, should be fault-tolerant because a critical failure could arise without warning. Therefore, in order to guarantee the reliability of safety-critical systems, fault-tolerant functions have been studied in detail. This paper presents a Kalman predictive redundancy system with a fault-detection algorithm using the Kalman filter that can remove the effect of faults. This paper also describes the detailed implementation of such a system using an embedded microcontroller to demonstrate that the Kalman predictive redundancy system outperforms well-known average and median voters. The experimental results show that the Kalman predictive redundancy system can ensure the fault-tolerance of safety-critical systems such as x-by-wire systems.

2009 Resident Location-Recognition Algorithm Using a Bayesian Classifier in the PIR Sensor-Based Indoor Location-Aware System
abstract
Intelligent home service systems consist of ubiquitous sensors, a home network, and a context-aware computing system that together collect residential environment information and provide intelligent services such as controlling the environment or lighting. Determining a resident's location in the smart home or smart office is a key to such a system. This correspondence presents an enhanced location-recognition algorithm using a Bayesian classifier for the pyroelectric infrared sensor-based indoor location-aware system that is a nonterminal-based location-aware system proposed in a previous paper. This correspondence compares the conventional and enhanced location-recognition algorithms and their performance. The feasibility of the system is evaluated experimentally on a test bed.

2005 QoS-based remote control of networked control systems via Profibus token passing protocol
abstract
This paper focuses on a quality-of-service (QoS)-based remote control scheme for networked control systems via the Profibus token passing protocol. Typically, token passing experiences random network delay due to uncertainties in token circulation, but the protocol has in-built upper and lower bounds of network delay. Thus, to ensure the control performance of networked control systems via the Profibus token passing protocol, the network delay should be maintained below the allowable delay level. As the network delay is affected by protocol parameters, such as target rotation time, we present here an algorithm for selection of target rotation time using a genetic algorithm to ensure QoS of control information. We also discuss the performance of the QoS-based remote control scheme under conditions of controlled network delay. To evaluate its feasibility, a networked control system for a feedback control system using a servo motor was implemented on a Profibus-FMS network.

1993 Performance Management of Multiple Access Communication Networks
abstract
This paper focuses on conceptual design, development, and implementation of a performance management tool for computer communication networks to serve large-scale integrated systems. The objective is to improve the network performance in handling various types of messages by on-line adjustment of protocol parameters. The techniques of perturbation analysis of Discrete Event Dynamic Systems (DEDS), stochastic approximation (SA), and learning automata have been used in formulating the algorithm of performance management. The efficacy of the performance management tool has been demonstrated on a network testbed. The conceptual design presented offers a step forward to bridging the gap between management standards and users' demands for efficient network operations since most standards such as ISO (International Standards Organization) and IEEE address only the architecture, services, and interfaces for network management. The proposed concept for performance management can also be used as a general framework to assist design, operation, and management of various DEDS such as computer integrated manufacturing and battlefield C/sup 3/ (Command, Control, and Communications).>
