| 2026 | TinySplat: Feedforward Approach for Generating Compact 3D Scene RepresentationabstractThe recent development of feedforward 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) presents a new paradigm to reconstruct 3D scenes. Using neural networks trained on large-scale multi-view datasets, it can directly infer 3DGS representations from sparse input views. Although the feedforward approach achieves high reconstruction speed, it still suffers from the substantial storage cost of 3D Gaussians. Existing 3DGS compression methods relying on scene-wise optimization are not applicable due to architectural incompatibilities. To overcome this limitation, we propose TinySplat, a complete feedforward approach for generating compact 3D scene representations. Built upon standard feedforward 3DGS methods, TinySplat integrates a training-free compression framework that systematically eliminates key sources of redundancy. Specifically, we introduce View-Projection Transformation (VPT) to reduce geometric redundancy by projecting geometric parameters into a more compact space. We further present Visibility-Aware Basis Reduction (VABR), which mitigates perceptual redundancy by aligning feature energy along dominant viewing directions via basis transformation. Lastly, spatial redundancy is addressed through an off-the-shelf video codec. Comprehensive experimental results on multiple benchmark datasets demonstrate that TinySplat achieves over 100× compression for 3D Gaussian data generated by feedforward methods. Compared to the state-of-the-art compression approach, we achieve comparable quality with only 6% of the storage size. Meanwhile, our compression framework requires only 25% of the encoding time and 1% of the decoding time. | 2026 | Learned Image Compression via Local-to-Global Cross-Component PriorabstractLearned image compression (LIC) methods have shown promising results and achieved superior performance compared to traditional image compression methods. Due to the neglect of the utilization of cross-component correlations, there is still a potential for further performance improvement. In this paper, we first explore the inter-channel correlations of different color spaces and transform the image compression problem in RGB color space into that in YUV color space, which has cross-component prior information. We propose a novel image compression method that leverages local-to-global cross-component prior modeling, utilizing a cross-component attention mechanism to improve coding performance. First, we design the cross-component prior gate (CPG) to model the cross-component prior information based on attention mechanism. Inspired by common knowledge in data compression, luma component (Y) contains more details and textural/structural information compared to chroma components (UV). The proposed method can make full use of the cross-component guidance information from luma to chroma components to achieve effective image compression. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve superior performance compared to existing learned image compression methods. The proposed method can achieve 9.20% rate savings compared to the image compression standard Versatile Video Coding (VVC) Test Model (VTM-11.0) on Kodak dataset. | 2025 | Recurrent Intra Prediction Mode for Future Video CodingabstractIntra prediction is a crucial component of hybrid video coding framework due to its remarkable ability to reduce spatial redundancy in video signals. Unlike the single-mode based intra prediction in HEVC and VVC, intra fusion prediction methods, that combine the results of multiple angular prediction modes, were newly adopted by Enhanced Compression Model (ECM). However, intra fusion prediction over-relies on local spatial correlations and neglects potential texture similarities in non-adjacent regions. To overcome these limitations and elevate the accuracy of luma intra prediction, a Recurrent Intra Prediction Mode (RIPM) is proposed in this paper, which is composed of two sub-modules, i.e., Recurrent Intra Merge Mode (RIMM) and Recurrent Block Vector Substitution Module (RBVSM). RIMM utilizes the recurrent spatial texture information of the adjacent and non-adjacent spaces for adaptive mode derivation and prediction within the intra fusion prediction framework. RBVSM is a sophisticated mechanism for adaptive prediction mode selection and weight assignment during intra fusion prediction, resulting in enhanced coding performance with minimal impact on computational complexity. The proposed method, implemented on top of ECM-12.0, demonstrates a 0.095% BD-rate gain for the luma component under All Intra configuration, with negligible complexity increase. Currently, RIPM is under study in Exploration Experiments (EE) for ECM in JVET. Jiaye Fu, Xuewei Meng, Siwei Ma 0001, Jiaqi Zhang 0007, Yao-Jen Chang, Vadim Seregin, Marta Karczewicz |

| 2025 | Advanced Learning-Based Coding Tools for ECM: Intra Prediction and In-Loop FilteringabstractNeural Network (NN)-based video coding technologies have emerged as a promising alternative to traditional methods, demonstrating significant advantages amidst the rapid advancements in video coding technology. This paper presents a hybrid video coding method based on the Enhanced Compression Model (ECM) developed by the Joint Video Exploration Team (JVET). We integrate two NN-based coding tools into the framework. Specifically, the proposed NN-based Intra Prediction (NNIP) method effectively models the nonlinear relationship between neighboring contextual information and the block to be predicted. The NN-based In-Loop Filtering (NNILF) method adaptively filters the luminance and chrominance components across various quality levels. Experimental results show that the NNIP and NNILF methods achieve 0.56% and 4.14% BD-rate savings for YCbCr components under the All Intra (AI) configuration compared to ECM-14.0. Under the Random Access (RA) configuration, the proposed method can achieve a 2.41% BD-rate saving for YCbCr components. | 2025 | ReCon-GS: Continuum-Preserved Gaussian Streaming for Fast and Compact Reconstruction of Dynamic ScenesabstractTo address these challenges, we propose the Reconfigurable Continuum Gaussian Stream, dubbed ReCon-GS, a novel storage-aware framework that enables high-fidelity online dynamic scene reconstruction and real-time rendering. Specifically, we dynamically allocate multi-level Anchor Gaussians in a density-adaptive fashion to capture inter-frame geometric deformations, thereby decomposing scene motion into compact coarse-to-fine representations. Then, we design a dynamic hierarchy reconfiguration strategy that preserves localized motion expressiveness through on-demand anchor re-hierarchization, while ensuring temporal consistency through intra-hierarchical deformation inheritance that confines transformation priors to their respective hierarchy levels. Furthermore, we introduce a storage-aware optimization mechanism that flexibly adjusts the density of Anchor Gaussians at different hierarchy levels, enabling a controllable trade-off between reconstruction fidelity and memory usage. Extensive experiments on three widely used datasets demonstrate that, compared to state‐of‐the‐art methods, ReCon-GS improves training efficiency by approximately 15% and achieves superior FVV synthesis quality with enhanced robustness and stability. Moreover, at equivalent rendering quality, ReCon-GS slashes memory requirements by over 50% compared to leading state‑of‑the‑art methods. Code is avaliable at: https://github.com/jyfu-vcl/ReCon-GS/. | 2024 | Core-Periphery Detection Based on Masked Bayesian Nonnegative Matrix FactorizationabstractCore–periphery structure is an essential mesoscale feature in complex networks. Previous researches mostly focus on discriminative approaches, while in this work we propose a generative model called masked Bayesian nonnegative matrix factorization. We build the model using two pair affiliation matrices to indicate core–periphery pair associations and using a mask matrix to highlight connections to core nodes. We propose an approach to infer the model parameters and prove the convergence of variables with our approach. Besides the abilities as traditional approaches, it is able to identify core scores with overlapping core–periphery pairs. We verify the effectiveness of our method using randomly generated networks and real-world networks. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms traditional approaches.
