2025 DFormerv2: Geometry Self-Attention for RGBD Semantic Segmentation
abstract
Recent advances in scene understanding benefit a lot from depth maps because of the 3D geometry information, especially in complex conditions (e.g., low light and overexposed). Existing approaches encode depth maps along with RGB images and perform feature fusion between them to enable more robust predictions. Taking into account that depth can be regarded as a geometry supplement for RGB images, a straightforward question arises: Do we really need to explicitly encode depth information with neural networks as done for RGB images? Based on this insight, in this paper, we investigate a new way to learn RGBD feature representations and present DFormerv2, a strong RGBD encoder that explicitly uses depth maps as geometry priors rather than encoding depth information with neural networks. Our goal is to extract the geometry clues from the depth and spatial distances among all the image patch tokens, which will then be used as geometry priors to allocate attention weights in self-attention. Extensive experiments demonstrate that DFormerv2 exhibits exceptional performance in various RGBD semantic segmentation benchmarks. Code is available at: https://github.com/VCIP-RGBD/DFormer.

2025 OmniSegmentor: A Flexible Multi-Modal Learning Framework for Semantic Segmentation
abstract
Recent research on representation learning has proved the merits of multi-modal clues for robust semantic segmentation. Nevertheless, a flexible pretrain-and-finetune pipeline for multiple visual modalities remains unexplored. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-modal learning framework, termed OmniSegmentor. It has two key innovations: 1) Based on ImageNet, we assemble a large-scale dataset for multi-modal pretraining, called OmniSegmentor, which contains five popular visual modalities; 2) We provide an efficient pretraining manner to endow the model with the capacity to encode different modality information in the OmniSegmentor. For the first time, we introduce a universal multi-modal pretraining framework that consistently amplifies the model's perceptual capabilities across various scenarios, regardless of the arbitrary combination of the involved modalities. Remarkably, our OmniSegmentor achieves new state-of-the-art records on a wide range of multi-modal semantic segmentation datasets, including NYU Depthv2, EventScape, MFNet, DeLiVER, SUNRGBD, and KITTI-360. Data, model checkpoints, and source code will be made publicly available: https://github.com/VCIP-RGBD/DFormer.

2025 Code Doppler Channel Simulation Methods and Performance Evaluation for Satellite Communication Scenarios
abstract
In satellite communication systems, the Doppler effect caused by the high-speed motion of satellites significantly impacts the stability and performance of communication links. This is especially evident in pseudo-random code modulation systems, where the Doppler effect induces a frequency offset in the pseudo-code rate, thereby degrading signal demodulation performance. Focusing on the code Doppler effect in satellite communication scenarios, this paper investigates a channel simulation method adapted to the code Doppler effect and verifies its effectiveness.

2025 Enhancing Representations Through Heterogeneous Self-Supervised Learning
abstract
Incorporating heterogeneous representations from different architectures has facilitated various vision tasks, e.g., some hybrid networks combine transformers and convolutions. However, complementarity between such heterogeneous architectures has not been well exploited in self-supervised learning. Thus, we propose Heterogeneous Self-Supervised Learning (HSSL), which enforces a base model to learn from an auxiliary head whose architecture is heterogeneous from the base model. In this process, HSSL endows the base model with new characteristics in a representation learning way without structural changes. To comprehensively understand the HSSL, we conduct experiments on various heterogeneous pairs containing a base model and an auxiliary head. We discover that the representation quality of the base model moves up as their architecture discrepancy grows. This observation motivates us to propose a search strategy that quickly determines the most suitable auxiliary head for a specific base model to learn and several simple but effective methods to enlarge the model discrepancy. The HSSL is compatible with various self-supervised methods, achieving superior performances on various downstream tasks, including image classification, semantic segmentation, instance segmentation, and object detection.

2025 Referring Camouflaged Object Detection
abstract
We consider the problem of referring camouflaged object detection (Ref-COD), a new task that aims to segment specified camouflaged objects based on a small set of referring images with salient target objects. We first assemble a large-scale dataset, called R2C7K, which consists of 7 K images covering 64 object categories in real-world scenarios. Then, we develop a simple but strong dual-branch framework, dubbed R2CNet, with a reference branch embedding the common representations of target objects from referring images and a segmentation branch identifying and segmenting camouflaged objects under the guidance of the common representations. In particular, we design a Referring Mask Generation module to generate pixel-level prior mask and a Referring Feature Enrichment module to enhance the capability of identifying specified camouflaged objects. Extensive experiments show the superiority of our Ref-COD methods over their COD counterparts in segmenting specified camouflaged objects and identifying the main body of target objects.

2024 TeMO: Towards Text-Driven 3D Stylization for Multi-Object Meshes
abstract
Recent progress in the text-driven 3D stylization of a single object has been considerably promoted by CLIP-based methods. However, the stylization of multi-object 3D scenes is still impeded in that the image-text pairs used for pre-training CLIP mostly consist of an object. Meanwhile, the local details of multiple objects may be susceptible to omission due to the existing supervision manner primarily relying on coarse-grained contrast of image-text pairs. To overcome these challenges, we present a novel framework, dubbed TeMO, to parse multi-object 3D scenes and edit their styles under the contrast supervision at multiple levels. We first propose a Decoupled Graph Attention (DGA) module to distinguishably reinforce the features of 3D surface points. Particularly, a cross-modal graph is constructed to align the object points accurately and noun phrases decoupled from the 3D mesh and textual description. Then, we develop a Cross-Grained Contrast (CGC) supervision system, where a fine-grained loss between the words in the textual description and the randomly rendered images are constructed to complement the coarse-grained loss. Extensive experiments show that our method can synthesize high-quality stylized content and outperform the existing methods over a wide range of multi-object 3D meshes.

2024 DFormer: Rethinking RGBD Representation Learning for Semantic Segmentation
abstract
We present DFormer, a novel RGB-D pretraining framework to learn transferable representations for RGB-D segmentation tasks. DFormer has two new key innovations: 1) Unlike previous works that encode RGB-D information with RGB pretrained backbone, we pretrain the backbone using image-depth pairs from ImageNet-1K, and thus the DFormer is endowed with the capacity to encode RGB-D representations; 2) DFormer comprises a sequence of RGB-D blocks, which are tailored for encoding both RGB and depth information through a novel building block design. DFormer avoids the mismatched encoding of the 3D geometry relationships in depth maps by RGB pretrained backbones, which widely lies in existing methods but has not been resolved. We finetune the pretrained DFormer on two popular RGB-D tasks, i.e., RGB-D semantic segmentation and RGB-D salient object detection, with a lightweight decoder head. Experimental results show that our DFormer achieves new state-of-the-art performance on these two tasks with less than half of the computational cost of the current best methods on two RGB-D semantic segmentation datasets and five RGB-D salient object detection datasets. Code will be made publicly available.

2024 CamoFormer: Masked Separable Attention for Camouflaged Object Detection
abstract
How to identify and segment camouflaged objects from the background is challenging. Inspired by the multi-head self-attention in Transformers, we present a simple masked separable attention (MSA) for camouflaged object detection. We first separate the multi-head self-attention into three parts, which are responsible for distinguishing the camouflaged objects from the background using different mask strategies. Furthermore, we propose to capture high-resolution semantic representations progressively based on a simple top-down decoder with the proposed MSA to attain precise segmentation results. These structures plus a backbone encoder form a new model, dubbed CamoFormer. Extensive experiments show that CamoFormer achieves new state-of-the-art performance on three widely-used camouflaged object detection benchmarks. To better evaluate the performance of the proposed CamoFormer around the border regions, we propose to use two new metrics, i.e., BR-M and BR-F. There are on average ∼ 5% relative improvements over previous methods in terms of S-measure and weighted F-measure.

2024 CATNet: A Cascaded and Aggregated Transformer Network for RGB-D Salient Object Detection
abstract
Salient object detection (SOD) is an important preprocessing operation for various computer vision tasks. Most of existing RGB-D SOD models employ additive or connected strategies to directly aggregate and decode multi-scale features to predict salient maps. However, due to the large differences between the features of different scales, these aggregation strategies adopted may lead to information loss or redundancy, and few methods explicitly consider how to establish connections between features at different scales in the decoding process, which consequently deteriorates the detection performance of the models. To this end, we propose a cascaded and aggregated Transformer Network (CATNet) which consists of three key modules, i.e., attention feature enhancement module (AFEM), cross-modal fusion module (CMFM) and cascaded correction decoder (CCD). Specifically, the AFEM is designed on the basis of atrous spatial pyramid pooling to obtain multi-scale semantic information and global context information in high-level features through dilated convolution and multi-head self-attention mechanism, enhancing high-level features. The role of the CMFM is to enhance and thereafter fuse the RGB features and depth features, alleviating the problem of poor-quality depth maps. The CCD is composed of two subdecoders in a cascading fashion. It is designed to suppress noise in low-level features and mitigate the differences between features at different scales. Moreover, the CCD uses a feedback mechanism to correct and repair the output of the subdecoder by exploiting supervised features, so that the problem of information loss caused by the upsampling operation during the multi-scale features aggregation process can be mitigated. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed CATNet achieves superior performance over 14 state-of-the-art RGB-D methods on 7 challenging benchmarks.

2023 Integrating topographic knowledge into point cloud simplification for terrain modelling
abstract
Terrain models are widely used to depict the shape of the Earth’s surface. With the development of photogrammetric methods, point cloud data have become one of the most popular data sources for terrain modelling. However, the obtained point clouds are of high density, which often increases redundancy rather than improving accuracy. Therefore, point cloud simplification should be a core component of terrain modelling. This paper proposes a point cloud simplification method by integrating topographic knowledge into terrain modelling (TKPCS). The method contains two steps: (1) topographic knowledge recognition and construction and (2) point cloud simplification using this topographic knowledge for terrain modelling. The proposed approach is benchmarked against improved versions of existing methods to validate its capability and accuracy in digital elevation model construction and terrain derivative extraction. The results show that the simplified points of the TKPCS method can generate finer resolution terrain models with higher accuracy and greater information entropy. The good performance of the TKPCS method is also stable at different scales. This work endeavours to transform perceptive topographic knowledge into a process of point cloud simplification and can benefit future research related to terrain modelling.
