| 2025 | Robust dq-Frame Alignment in Indirect RFOC of Induction Motors under Parameter Variations by means of a Super-Twisting Sliding Mode ObserverabstractThis paper proposes a control strategy for robust estimation of the transformation angle error despite variations in motor parameters. The method focuses on identifying and compensating angle errors in Indirect Rotor Flux-Oriented Control (IRFOC). The main objective is to correct the misalignment between the (d, q) reference frame and the actual magnetic flux. In contrast to conventional methods that depend on adaptive techniques and real-time parameter estimation, the proposed strategy avoids the need of an online identification of motor parameters. To improve the accuracy of the transformation angle error estimation, the approach operates on multiple reference frames, including (α, β) frame, (d, q) frame, and a deviated rotating frame referred as the (d′, q′). It relies on a robust Sliding-Mode observer based on the Super-Twisting algorithm. Simulation results using the IRFOC scheme are provided to validate the performance of the proposed method. | 2024 | Interleaved Dual Buck Converter for Low-Carbon Hydrogen Production: Electrolyzer Current Control and Input Capacitors Voltage BalancingabstractThis paper proposes a DC-coupled PEM electrolyzer current control scheme combined with an Input Capacitors Voltage Balancing (ICVB) strategy for a three-channel interleaved dual buck converter topology, aimed at low-carbon hydrogen production. Input capacitors voltage imbalance can lead to improper operation of the interleaved dual buck converter topology, potentially damaging the power components. To address this issue, a control scheme featuring differential operation is proposed to regulate the input voltages, alongside the current control of the electrolyzer, directly influencing the amount of hydrogen produced. By controlling 5 out of 6 inductor currents, it is possible to leave one degree of freedom to control the voltage balance of the input capacitors, indirectly controlling the remaining current due to the operating principle of the topology. Simulation results are presented to validate the proposed control scheme for the proposed system with a nominal power of 1MW. | 2024 | Active EMF Concept: A Unified Observer for AC MachinesabstractThis work proposes a unified back Active Electromotive Force (AEMF) observer for AC machines based on the SuperTwisting Algorithm (STA). This study aims to create a universal observer structure that could drive Synchronous Machines (SMs) and Induction Machines (IMs) without modifying the observer structure. It is shown that the proposed unified observer can be applied to SMs and IMs with minimum machine parameters, negating the need for machine-type knowledge, or at the very least, the rotor flux model. The active EMF, a generalized version of the original back EMF, is used to achieve this. The Lyapunov theory guarantees the convergence of the proposed observer. Finally, to confirm our theoretical results, the proposed observer was validated on a Permanent Magnet SM (PMSM) and IM using MATLAB/Simulink simulations and experimental tests conducted on a real test bench. | 2021 | A New PWM Control based on an Optimized Zero Sequence Component injection: Application in a Two-Level InverterabstractIn this paper, a new optimization problem is proposed for improvement of PWM control of an inverter that supplies a generic RLE load. Two objectives functions are studied separately: Weighted Total Harmonic Distortion (WTHD) of load voltages and total losses. The gap contribution is related to optimize the zero sequence component waveform by defining special decision variables. By doing so, the proposed PWM strategy allows to improve the WTHD and efficiency of converters by keeping a classical PWM implementation scheme. Moreover this approach has the same way of thinking than the two main different classes of PWM strategies that are Space-Vector-based PWM (SVM) methods and classic carrier-based PWM methods (CBPWM). It is well known that there is an equivalence between SVM and CBPWM through the zero sequence component injection. So, optimized zero sequences are proposed for the two objectives functions considered, and the simulation results show a significant improvement compared to classical CBPWM strategies. Moreover the proposed strategy allows an implementation on existing hardware by modifying only the modulation component software. | 2021 | On-line loss and global efficiency simulation tool for electric vehicles applicationsabstractThis paper is dedicated to control-based energy optimization tools useful for the electric vehicles (EVs) propulsion chain, which puts in interaction an electric motor and its energy source static converter. It is essential in energy optimization studies to build an accurate simulation model that takes into account all possible losses of the propulsion chain components according to the operating point. For that reason, the present work provides an accurate loss analysis solution, by studying the various elements losses of an electric traction chain motorized by an Electrically-Excited Synchronous Motor (EESM). The machine power balance is established while taking copper and iron losses into account. Moreover, the inverter and chopper losses are evaluated while using a model based on a novel technique that consists in creating a modified version of output voltages affected by the inverter and chopper losses. Finally, all losses data are gathered in order to simulate the system on-line losses distribution and global efficiency for different operating conditions. | 2019 | Geometrical parameters influence analysis on performance and incremental inductances of a Permanent Magnet Assisted Synchronous Reluctance MotorabstractThis paper investigates the geometrical parameters effects of a Permanent Magnet Assisted Synchronous Reluctance Motor (PMA-SRM) on its electromagnetic performance and its sensorless control capability in low speed operation. The performance is meanly characterized by electromagnetic torque and power factor. The sensorless control capability is assessed by the incremental saliency level at rated current and above. The geometrical parameters analyzed are the airgap as well as the number, thickness and inclination of the flux-barriers in the rotor. The variation of some of these parameters improved incremental saliency without degrading electromagnetic performance. | 2017 | Direct control of a three-phase active filter on a disturbed networkabstractIn order to correct the power factor and limit the flow of harmonics in the source, the effectiveness of active power filters associated to control law is no longer to be demonstrated. Almost all of these methods are designed for a perfect sinusoidal source and do not produce sinusoidal current when the voltages are disturbed. The work developed here concerns active filtering on a perturbed network, that is to say the presence of voltage harmonics at the connection point in addition to a system of unbalanced voltages. A proposed method called DCAP (Direct Control for Active Power) is based on new definition of the sinusoidal active currents desired on the source and assuming a unity power factor under perturbed and polluted system voltages that leads to the DCAP control strategy for active filter. This method considers the active power and the effective value of the fundamental of the voltage is described and its results are compared with those obtained by the p-q theory, the modified p-q theory and the p-q-r method for application on a three-wire disturbed and non-linear load distribution network. The comparison concerns the harmonic distortion rate (THD) of the desired currents obtained on the source as well as Unbalance Factor (UF) of the system of these currents. Antoine F. | 2016 | Comparative evaluation of current reference extraction methods for single-phase shunt active power filtersabstractIn this paper, two current reference extraction methods for harmonic compensation in single-phase active power filters are presented and evaluated. The first method known as the ip-iq technique is based on the fundamental extraction from the load current, whereas the second strategy which is the Direct Control for Active Power (DCAP) method employs power calculation leading to a new definition for active current in case of perturbed source voltages. The comparison is carried on in terms of DC voltage regulation in case of disturbed source voltage. First, both control schemes are analyzed based on the obtained reference currents using simulation results. It is shown that the DCAP is more accurate on the reference current extraction than the ip-iq method. Next, the performance of the DCAP method in terms of current distortion and power factor in presence of a highly perturbed source voltage is demonstrated. Antoine F. | 2015 | Phase current control of a two phase synchronous reluctance machineabstractThis paper presents a direct phase current controller for a two phase synchronous machine. Firstly, the machine is modelled in three domains : the electrical domain, the electromagnetic domain and the mechanical domain. Secondly, a linearised model is deduced for the RS controller coefficient determination. The performance is enhanced with the introduction of a model observer to compensate the system variations around its nominal point Afterwards, a full order RS controller with an augmented bandwidth is tested and is proved to be an alternative to the model observer. Finally, the three controller configurations are implemented on a test bench and the experimental results proved what was found in simulation. | 2013 | MPC algorithms for parallel multicell convertersabstractThe parallel association of classical commutation cells is a good solution for increasing the output current driven by the converters while the classical semiconductors technology are used. The control strategies used with this type of connection must be able to ensure good distribution of the output current among the different legs. This paper applies two control strategies based on the Model Predictive Control (MPC) in order to handle these type of connections. A comparison between these control strategies is also carried out by experiments. Eduard Solano, Ana-Maria Llor, Thierry Meynard, Maurice Fadel, Guillaume Gateau, Marco Rivera |

| 2012 | Geometrical approach for a predictive current controller applied to a three-phase two-level four-leg inverterabstractCurrent model predictive control for a grid-connected four-leg voltage source converter application is presented in this paper. The solution of the optimum criterion defined by predictive control is considered as the reference current. This current will be applied based on projections of the different current control vectors corresponding to the switches states. Geometrical properties of the predicted current projections are used to achieve a current control strategy operating at fixed switching frequency. A laboratory model of the four-leg converter and its load has been constructed and its performance has been tested through experiments.
