1994 Field test of a CDMA system
abstract
Field tests of a CDMA based mobile radio system was conducted jointly by DeTeMobil and QUALCOMM, INC. In Munster, Germany. Tests were conducted in the 1.7 GHz frequency band, under a variety of conditions, including different terrains and vehicle speeds, as well as in both single cell and hand-off coverages. The performance of the system was evaluated both subjectively using audio parameters, as well objectively, using frame error rates. General system performance under different coverage situations are represented, together with an analysis of the performance of the system with respect to both signal strength and vehicle speed. The indoor performance and interference characteristics of the test system are also presented. Finally, the audio performance of the system is presented.>

1994 Soft handoff extends CDMA cell coverage and increases reverse link capacity
abstract
The effect of handoff techniques on cell coverage and reverse link capacity is investigated for a spread spectrum CDMA system. It is shown that soft handoff increases both parameters significantly relative to conventional hard handoff.>

1990 Increased Capacity Using CDMA for Mobile Satellite Communication
abstract
The performance of a spread-spectrum CDMA (code-division multiple access) system in a mobile satellite environment is analyzed. Comparisons to single-channel-per-carrier FDMA systems are presented which show that the CDMA approach provides greater capacity. Results from computer simulations, laboratory tests, and field tests of a prototype modem are also presented. The tests results show excellent performance of the modem in the mobile environment and also the feasibility of the spread-spectrum approach to satellite mobile communications.>
