Particle Rendering: Implicitly Aggregating Incident and Outgoing Light Fields for Novel View SynthesisabstractThis paper presents Particle Rendering (PR), a new implicit rendering approach that extends Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) by incorporating incident light along with traditional outgoing light modeling. In our framework, a 3D scene consists of a mass of particles, each offering a deeper understanding of light interactions by reflecting and emitting light in all directions. Our methodology involves a three-phase training pipeline: 1) Estimating the outgoing light field through a NeRF model; 2) Distilling the incident light field. A simple metric is introduced to assess the quality of the ray for better supervision; 3) Implicit rendering. We propose an implicit method to aggregate incident and outgoing fields that leverages Multilayer Perceptrons (MLP) to directly infer final pixel values, thus avoiding the limitation of traditional physically-based rendering techniques. The effectiveness of PR is demonstrated through state-of-the-art results in various challenging indoor and outdoor scenes, emphasizing its capability to handle complex lighting and reflective materials. | 2025 | PRM: Photometric Stereo Based Large Reconstruction ModelabstractWe propose PRM, a novel photometric stereo based large reconstruction model to reconstruct high-quality meshes with fine-grained local details. Unlike previous large reconstruction models that prepare images under fixed and simple lighting as both input and supervision, PRM renders photometric stereo images by varying materials and lighting for the purposes, which not only improves the precise local details by providing rich photometric cues but also increases the model robustness to variations in the appearance of input images. To offer enhanced flexibility of images rendering, we incorporate a real-time physically-based rendering (PBR) method and mesh rasterization for online images rendering. Moreover, in employing an explicit mesh as our 3D representation, PRM ensures the application of differentiable PBR, which supports the utilization of multiple photometric supervisions and better models the specular color for high-quality geometry optimization. Our PRM leverages photometric stereo images to achieve high-quality reconstructions with fine-grained local details, even amidst sophisticated image appearances. Extensive experiments demonstrate that PRM significantly outperforms other models. Wenhang Ge, Jiantao Lin, Guibao Shen, Tao Hu 0011, Xinli Xu, Ying-Cong Chen

| 2025 | Low-Light Video Enhancement via Spatial-Temporal Consistent DecompositionabstractLow-Light Video Enhancement (LLVE) seeks to restore dynamic or static scenes plagued by severe invisibility and noise. In this paper, we present an innovative video decomposition strategy that incorporates view-independent and view-dependent components to enhance the performance of LLVE. We leverage dynamic cross-frame correspondences for the view-independent term (which primarily captures intrinsic appearance) and impose a scene-level continuity constraint on the view-dependent term (which mainly describes the shading condition) to achieve consistent and satisfactory decomposition results. To further ensure consistent decomposition, we introduce a dual-structure enhancement network featuring a cross-frame interaction mechanism. By supervising different frames simultaneously, this network encourages them to exhibit matching decomposition features. This mechanism can seamlessly integrate with encoder-decoder single-frame networks, incurring minimal additional parameter costs. Extensive experiments are conducted on widely recognized LLVE benchmarks, covering diverse scenarios. Our framework consistently outperforms existing methods, establishing a new SOTA performance. | 2025 | HiScene: Creating Hierarchical 3D Scenes with Isometric View GenerationabstractScene-level 3D generation represents a critical frontier in multimedia and computer graphics. While existing approaches have achieved encouraging progress, they still face challenges such as constrained object diversity and limited support for interactive editing. In this paper, we present HiScene, a novel hierarchical framework that bridges the gap between 2D image generation and 3D object generation and delivers high-fidelity scenes with compositional identities and aesthetic scene content. Our key insight is treating scenes as hierarchical ''objects'' under isometric views, where a room functions as a complex object that can be further decomposed into manipulatable items. This hierarchical approach enables us to generate 3D content that aligns with 2D representations while maintaining compositional structure. To ensure completeness and spatial alignment of each decomposed instance, we develop a video-diffusion-based amodal completion technique that effectively handles occlusions and shadows between objects, and introduce shape prior injection to ensure spatial coherence within the scene. Experimental results demonstrate that our method produces more natural object arrangements and complete object instances suitable for interactive applications, while maintaining physical plausibility and alignment with user inputs. | 2024 | Boosting Image Restoration via Priors from Pre-Trained ModelsabstractPre-trained models with large-scale training data, such as CLIP and Stable Diffusion, have demonstrated remarkable performance in various high-level computer vision tasks such as image understanding and generation from language descriptions. Yet, their potential for low-level tasks such as image restoration remains relatively unexplored. In this paper, we explore such models to enhance image restoration. As off-the-shelf features (OSF) from pre-trained models do not directly serve image restoration, we propose to learn an additional lightweight module called Pre-Train-Guided Refinement Module (PTG-RM) to refine restoration results of a target restoration network with OSF. PTG-RM consists of two components, Pre-Train-Guided Spatial-Varying Enhancement (PTG-SVE), and Pre-Train-Guided Channel-Spatial Attention (PTG-CSA). PTG-SVE enables optimal short- and long-range neural operations, while PTG-CSA enhances spatial-channel attention for restoration-related learning. Extensive experiments demonstrate that PTG-RM, with its compact size (<1M parameters), effectively enhances restoration performance of various models across different tasks, including low-light enhancement, deraining, deblurring, and denoising. | 2024 | X-Ray: A Sequential 3D Representation For GenerationabstractWe introduce X-Ray, a novel 3D sequential representation inspired by the penetrability of x-ray scans. X-Ray transforms a 3D object into a series of surface frames at different layers, making it suitable for generating 3D models from images. Our method utilizes ray casting from the camera center to capture geometric and textured details, including depth, normal, and color, across all intersected surfaces. This process efficiently condenses the whole 3D object into a multi-frame video format, motivating the utilize of a network architecture similar to those in video diffusion models. This design ensures an efficient 3D representation by focusing solely on surface information. Also, we propose a two-stage pipeline to generate 3D objects from X-Ray Diffusion Model and Upsampler. We demonstrate the practicality and adaptability of our X-Ray representation by synthesizing the complete visible and hidden surfaces of a 3D object from a single input image. Experimental results reveal the state-of-the-art superiority of our representation in enhancing the accuracy of 3D generation, paving the way for new 3D representation research and practical applications.

Point2Pix: Photo-Realistic Point Cloud Rendering via Neural Radiance FieldsabstractSynthesizing photo-realistic images from a point cloud is challenging because of the sparsity of point cloud representation. Recent Neural Radiance Fields and extensions are proposed to synthesize realistic images from 2D input. In this paper, we present Point2Pix as a novel point renderer to link the 3D sparse point clouds with 2D dense image pixels. Taking advantage of the point cloud 3D prior and NeRF rendering pipeline, our method can synthesize high-quality images from colored point clouds, generally for novel indoor scenes. To improve the efficiency of ray sampling, we propose point-guided sampling, which focuses on valid samples. Also, we present Point Encoding to build Multiscale Radiance Fields that provide discriminative 3D point features. Finally, we propose Fusion Encoding to efficiently synthesize high-quality images. Extensive experiments on the ScanNet and ArkitScenes datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and generalization. Tao Hu 0011, Xiaogang Xu 0002, Shu Liu 0005, Jiaya Jia

TriVol: Point Cloud Rendering via Triple VolumesabstractExisting learning-based methods for point cloud rendering adopt various 3D representations and feature querying mechanisms to alleviate the sparsity problem of point clouds. However, artifacts still appear in rendered images, due to the challenges in extracting continuous and discriminative 3D features from point clouds. In this paper, we present a dense while lightweight 3D representation, named TriVol, that can be combined with NeRF to render photo-realistic images from point clouds. Our TriVol consists of triple slim volumes, each of which is encoded from the point cloud. TriVol has two advantages. First, it fuses respective fields at different scales and thus extracts local and non-local features for discriminative representation. Second, since the volume size is greatly reduced, our 3D decoder can be efficiently inferred, allowing us to increase the resolution of the 3D space to render more point details. Extensive experiments on different benchmarks with varying kinds of scenes/objects demonstrate our framework's effectiveness compared with current approaches. Moreover, our framework has excellent generalization ability to render a category of scenes/objects without fine-tuning. The source code is available at https://github.com/dvlabresearch/TriVol.git. | 2023 | NeRFLiX: High-Quality Neural View Synthesis by Learning a Degradation-Driven Inter-viewpoint MiXerabstractNeural radiance fields (NeRF) show great success in novel view synthesis. However, in real-world scenes, recovering high-quality details from the source images is still challenging for the existing NeRF-based approaches, due to the potential imperfect calibration information and scene representation inaccuracy. Even with high-quality training frames, the synthetic novel views produced by NeRF models still suffer from notable rendering artifacts, such as noise, blur, etc. Towards to improve the synthesis quality of NeRF-based approaches, we propose NeRFLiX, a general NeRF-agnostic restorer paradigm by learning a degradation-driven inter-viewpoint mixer. Specially, we design a NeRF-style degradation modeling approach and construct large-scale training data, enabling the possibility of effectively removing NeRF-native rendering artifacts for existing deep neural networks. Moreover, beyond the degradation removal, we propose an inter-viewpoint aggregation framework that is able to fuse highly related high-quality training images, pushing the performance of cutting-edge NeRF models to entirely new levels and producing highly photo-realistic synthetic views. | 2023 | Ref-NeuS: Ambiguity-Reduced Neural Implicit Surface Learning for Multi-View Reconstruction with ReflectionabstractNeural implicit surface learning has shown significant progress in multi-view 3D reconstruction, where an object is represented by multilayer perceptrons that provide continuous implicit surface representation and view-dependent radiance. However, current methods often fail to accurately reconstruct reflective surfaces, leading to severe ambiguity. To overcome this issue, we propose Ref-NeuS, which aims to reduce ambiguity by attenuating the effect of reflective surfaces. Specifically, we utilize an anomaly detector to estimate an explicit reflection score with the guidance of multiview context to localize reflective surfaces. Afterward, we design a reflection-aware photometric loss that adaptively reduces ambiguity by modeling rendered color as a Gaussian distribution, with the reflection score representing the variance. We show that together with a reflection direction-dependent radiance, our model achieves high-quality surface reconstruction on reflective surfaces and outperforms the state-of-the-arts by a large margin. Besides, our model is also comparable on general surfaces. Wenhang Ge, Tao Hu 0011, Shu Liu 0005, Ying-Cong Chen

Screening prognostic markers for hepatocellular carcinoma based on pyroptosis-related lncRNA pairsabstractBACKGROUND: Pyroptosis is closely related to cancer prognosis. In this study, we tried to construct an individualized prognostic risk model for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) based on within-sample relative expression orderings (REOs) of pyroptosis-related lncRNAs (PRlncRNAs). METHODS: RNA-seq data of 343 HCC samples derived from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database were analyzed. PRlncRNAs were detected based on differentially expressed lncRNAs between sample groups clustered by 40 reported pyroptosis-related genes (PRGs). Univariate Cox regression was used to screen out prognosis-related PRlncRNA pairs. Then, based on REOs of prognosis-related PRlncRNA pairs, a risk model for HCC was constructed by combining LASSO and stepwise multivariate Cox regression analysis. Finally, a prognosis-related competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network was built based on information about lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA interactions derived from the miRNet and TargetScan databases. RESULTS: (FC)|> 1 and FDR < 5%). Among them, 83 PRlncRNA pairs showed significant associations between their REOs within HCC samples and overall survival (Univariate Cox regression, p < 0.005). An optimal 11-PRlncRNA-pair prognostic risk model was constructed for HCC. The areas under the curves (AUCs) of time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves of the risk model for 1-, 3-, and 5-year survival were 0.737, 0.705, and 0.797 in the validation set, respectively. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis showed that inflammation-related interleukin signaling pathways were upregulated in the predicted high-risk group (p < 0.05). Tumor immune infiltration analysis revealed a higher abundance of regulatory T cells (Tregs) and M2 macrophages and a lower abundance of CD8 + T cells in the high-risk group, indicating that excessive pyroptosis might occur in high-risk patients. Finally, eleven lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory axes associated with pyroptosis were established. CONCLUSION: Our risk model allowed us to determine the robustness of the REO-based PRlncRNA prognostic biomarkers in the stratification of HCC patients at high and low risk. The model is also helpful for understanding the molecular mechanisms between pyroptosis and HCC prognosis. High-risk patients may have excessive pyroptosis and thus be less sensitive to immune therapy. Tong Wu 0004, Fengyuan Luo, Tao Hu 0011, Guini Hong, Hongdong Li

EfficientNeRF - Efficient Neural Radiance FieldsabstractNeural Radiance Fields (NeRF) has been wildly applied to various tasks for its high-quality representation of 3D scenes. It takes long per-scene training time and per-image testing time. In this paper, we present EfficientNeRF as an efficient NeRF-based method to represent 3D scene and synthesize novel-view images. Although several ways exist to accelerate the training or testing process, it is still difficult to much reduce time for both phases simultaneously. We analyze the density and weight distribution of the sampled points then propose valid and pivotal sampling at the coarse and fine stage, respectively, to significantly improve sampling efficiency. In addition, we design a novel data structure to cache the whole scene during testing to accelerate the rendering speed. Overall, our method can reduce over 88% of training time, reach rendering speed of over 200 FPS, while still achieving competitive accuracy. Experiments prove that our method promotes the practicality of NeRF in the real world and enables many applications. The code is available in https://github.com/dvlabresearch/EfficientNeRF. | 2021 | Self-Supervised 3D Mesh Reconstruction From Single ImagesabstractRecent single-view 3D reconstruction methods reconstruct object’s shape and texture from a single image with only 2D image-level annotation. However, without explicit 3D attribute-level supervision, it is still difficult to achieve satisfying reconstruction accuracy. In this paper, we propose a Self-supervised Mesh Reconstruction (SMR) approach to enhance 3D mesh attribute learning process. Our approach is motivated by observations that (1) 3D attributes from interpolation and prediction should be consistent, and (2) feature representation of landmarks from all images should be consistent. By only requiring silhouette mask annotation, our SMR can be trained in an end-to- end manner and generalizes to reconstruct natural objects of birds, cows, motorbikes, etc. Experiments demonstrate that our approach improves both 2D supervised and unsupervised 3D mesh reconstruction on multiple datasets. We also show that our model can be adapted to other image synthesis tasks, e.g., novel view generation, shape transfer, and texture transfer, with promising results. | 2018 | Facial Landmarks Detection by Self-Iterative Regression Based Landmarks-Attention NetworkabstractCascaded Regression (CR) based methods have been proposed to solve facial landmarks detection problem, which learn a series of descent directions by multiple cascaded regressors separately trained in coarse and fine stages. They outperform the traditional gradient descent based methods in both accuracy and running speed. However, cascaded regression is not robust enough because each regressor's training data comes from the output of previous regressor. Moreover, training multiple regressors requires lots of computing resources, especially for deep learning based methods. In this paper, we develop a Self-Iterative Regression (SIR) framework to improve the model efficiency. Only one self-iterative regressor is trained to learn the descent directions for samples from coarse stages to fine stages, and parameters are iteratively updated by the same regressor. Specifically, we proposed Landmarks-Attention Network (LAN) as our regressor, which concurrently learns features around each landmark and obtains the holistic location increment. By doing so, not only the rest of regressors are removed to simplify the training process, but the number of model parameters is significantly decreased. The experiments demonstrate that with only 3.72M model parameters, our proposed method achieves the state-of-the-art performance. Tao Hu 0011, Honggang Qi, Jizheng Xu, Qingming Huang
