2010 Multilayer failure detection method for network services based on distributed components
abstract
Network services based on distributed components, which provide advanced network services with lower cost by assigning and reusing useful components running on remote nodes, are attracting increasing attention. In this service, when a component fails, a component that has the same function running on another node can be substituted for it. On the other hand, there are three kinds of failures in network services; a software failure at a component, a hardware failure at a node, and a failure of the physical network. We propose a new method to identify a failure in network services, which determines not only a failure at the application level but also in the network layer by collecting a small number of messages via multiple overlay networks.

2008 Architecture and Key Technologies of the Next Generation Service Platform
abstract
The divergence of people's demands and technologies has been fueling the proliferation of vertically integrated "silo type" systems. In order to maintain systematic simplicity, a common layer is necessary, which is used to quickly develop new applications. This paper discusses the requirements of the service delivery platform (SDP) as the common layer, and proposes our SDP named SPACE. The architecture of SPACE is based on the SOA concept, which provides reusable service elements and an open interface for applications. SPACE includes layered service elements and a messaging function to connect the service element and application. Other key technologies are consistency management and resource control SPACE creates new values for many players, based on information over a wide area and networking capabilities. However, sometimes the requested application processes incompletely because of the instability of the wireless communication path and the conflict of the device control Consequently, the SPACE resource will be wasted and additional delay will be caused. To overcome this issue, we propose a resource control mechanism which controls the processing order of service elements. Evaluation results show that the mechanism can reduce processing time in the entire platform system.

2007 Applying Autonomic Computing with Open Standardized Resource Interface WSDM to Managing Multi-vendor IT Systems
abstract
As IT systems grow bigger and complex, they are comprised of many resources supplied by various vendors. Also, the Internet accelerates inter-enterprise business transactions and IT systems are connected each other. Consequently enterprise application systems are becoming a kind of large business process across multiple vendors. This transformation will also bring new type of complexity and difficulties to enterprise IT system management. Having awareness of these issues, IBM and Fujitsu have been collaborating on standardization effort for various areas of autonomic computing technologies. Autonomic computing and open standard interface are an effective approach to deal with these challenges. The initial areas of collaboration are common event format and interface for action to manage IT resources. hi this presentation, we show how an autonomic manager can solve these issues with using an open standard, WSDM (Web Service Distributed Management). We demonstrate the autonomic manager that behaves based on defined policy, continuously monitors systems, handles events and takes actions through WSDM interface in Multi-vendor IT Systems.

2004 Active misconfiguration detection in Ethernet networks based on analysis of end-to-end anomalies
abstract
This paper addresses the detection of duplexity mismatch (DM) of media access devices in Ethernet networks. From the broad spectrum of sources we surveyed, including logging data from real networks, it appears that DM is surprisingly common and very severe. We show how DM introduces degenerative traffic anomalies capable of drastically reducing flow throughput. We, then, propose a novel detection algorithm based on end-to-end active probing. Our investigation is complemented by the implementation of a SW prototype. Extensive experimental evaluation is conducted in a real-world production LAN. The achieved results are encouraging and show that our prototype can be a very useful tool. Our evaluation attained a high success rate of misconfiguration detection: 99.72%. False positive and false negative rates are extremely contained: 0.00% and 0.28%, respectively. Therefore, our prototype appears to be a robust and reliable detection instrument from which network administrators and field engineers can benefit.

2000 NEPRI: Available Bandwidth Measurement in IP Networks
abstract
To provide a consistent quality of service in IP networks, it is necessary to know the current performance and available bandwidth of the network adequately. There are some ways to obtain the current available bandwidth such as management information base (MIB) analysis and RMON monitoring. The measurement methods using probing packets are studied, but they require a large number of packets to be transmitted in order to improve the measurement accuracy. They create heavy network traffic, so it is difficult to use such methods for actual networks in use. To solve the problem, we propose a new method called NEPRI. This method detects the macroscopic behaviour of the probing packets queued at the bottleneck and estimates the available bandwidth of the path. We show our method consumes less network resources and is sufficiently accurate.

1984 Traffic Analysis of Delayed Delivery Services Considering the Correlation Between Circuit Switching and Message Switching
abstract
To improve the ratio of successful calls, a new switching system permitting callers to store messages when the called party is busy or does not answer can be constructed by adding a message storing function to the conventional circuit switching system. The mutual traffic influences exerted by this combination of circuit and message switching systems have not yet been clarified. This paper considers a two-stage loss system traffic model consisting of a circuit switching system that has a message switching system connected to it. The traffic characteristics of this model are analyzed using the nonindependent state transition probability, which depends upon the interacting states of the circuit and message switching system. A method of solving the state equations by determining the state transition probabilities of the message switching system from the state probabilities of the circuit switching system is proposed. Using this method, the mutual traffic influence of the circuit and message switching systems is evaluated.

1982 Integrated Digital Switching System with Queueing Storage Facility
abstract
This paper outlines the features of a new integrated switching system for voice and data. It is composed of integrated subscriber terminals, integrated subscriber lines, an integrated digital switching system, and integrated storage facilities. This paper shows that the introduction of the integrated storage facility can create various new service utilities and improve the traffic capacity of the system.
