2023 A Survey of Vectorization Methods in Topological Data Analysis
abstract
Attempts to incorporate topological information in supervised learning tasks have resulted in the creation of several techniques for vectorizing persistent homology barcodes. In this paper, we study thirteen such methods. Besides describing an organizational framework for these methods, we comprehensively benchmark them against three well-known classification tasks. Surprisingly, we discover that the best-performing method is a simple vectorization, which consists only of a few elementary summary statistics. Finally, we provide a convenient web application which has been designed to facilitate exploration and experimentation with various vectorization methods.

2022 Dist2Cycle: A Simplicial Neural Network for Homology Localization
abstract
Simplicial complexes can be viewed as high dimensional generalizations of graphs that explicitly encode multi-way ordered relations between vertices at different resolutions, all at once. This concept is central towards detection of higher dimensional topological features of data, features to which graphs, encoding only pairwise relationships, remain oblivious. While attempts have been made to extend Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) to a simplicial complex setting, the methods do not inherently exploit, or reason about, the underlying topological structure of the network. We propose a graph convolutional model for learning functions parametrized by the k-homological features of simplicial complexes. By spectrally manipulating their combinatorial k-dimensional Hodge Laplacians, the proposed model enables learning topological features of the underlying simplicial complexes, specifically, the distance of each k-simplex from the nearest "optimal" k-th homology generator, effectively providing an alternative to homology localization.

2020 Persistence Paths and Signature Features in Topological Data Analysis
abstract
We introduce a new feature map for barcodes as they arise in persistent homology computation. The main idea is to first realize each barcode as a path in a convenient vector space, and to then compute its path signature which takes values in the tensor algebra of that vector space. The composition of these two operations-barcode to path, path to tensor series-results in a feature map that has several desirable properties for statistical learning, such as universality and characteristicness, and achieves state-of-the-art results on common classification benchmarks.

2013 Geometry in the space of persistence modules
abstract
Topological persistence is, by now, an established paradigm for constructing robust topological invariants from point cloud data: the data are converted into a filtered simplicial complex, the complex gives rise to a persistence module, and the module is described by a persistence diagram. In this paper, we study the geometry of the spaces of persistence modules and diagrams, with special attention to Cech and Rips complexes. The metric structures are determined in terms of interleaving maps between modules and matchings between diagrams. We show that the relationship between the Cech and Rips complexes is governed by certain `coherence' conditions on the corresponding families of interleavings or matchings.

2005 Wire congestion and thermal aware 3D global placement
abstract
The recent popularity of 3D IC technology stems from its enhanced performance capabilities and reduced wirelength. However, wire congestion and thermal issues are exacerbated due to the compact nature of these layered technologies. In this paper, we develop techniques to reduce the maximum temperature and wire congestion of 3D circuits without compromising total wirelength and via count. Our approach consists of two phases. First, we use a multi-level min-cut placement with a modified gain function for local wire congestion and dynamic power consumption reduction. Second, we perform simulated annealing together with full-length thermal analysis and global routing for global wire congestion and maximum temperature reduction. Our experimental results show smooth tradeoff among congestion, temperature, wirelength, and via.
