FastFLUX: Pruning FLUX with Block-wise Replacement and Sandwich TrainingabstractRecent advancements in text-to-image (T2I) generation have led to the emergence of highly expressive models such as diffusion transformers (DiTs), exemplified by FLUX. However, their massive parameter sizes lead to slow inference, high memory usage, and poor deployability. Existing acceleration methods (e.g., single-step distillation and attention pruning) often suffer from significant performance degradation and incur substantial training costs. To address these limitations, we propose FastFLUX, an architecture-level pruning framework designed to enhance the inference efficiency of FLUX. At its core is the Block-wise Replacement with Linear Layers (BRLL) method, which replaces structurally complex residual branches in ResBlocks with lightweight linear layers while preserving the original shortcut connections for stability. Furthermore, we introduce Sandwich Training (ST), a localized fine-tuning strategy that leverages LoRA to supervise neighboring blocks, mitigating performance drops caused by structural replacement. Experiments show that our FastFLUX maintains high image quality under both qualitative and quantitative evaluations, while significantly improving inference speed, even with 20% of the hierarchy pruned. | 2025 | Restabilizing Diffusion Models with Predictive Noise Fusion Strategy for Image Super-ResolutionabstractDiffusion models are prominent in image generation for producing detailed and realistic images from Gaussian noises. However, they often encounter instability issues in image restoration tasks, e.g., super-resolution. Existing methods typically rely on multiple runs to find an initial noise that produces a reasonably restored image. Unfortunately, these methods are computationally expensive and time-consuming without guaranteeing stable and consistent performance. To address these challenges, we propose a novel Predictive Noise Fusion Strategy (PNFS) that predicts pixel-wise errors in the restored image and combines different noises to generate a more effective noise. Extensive experiments show that PNFS significantly improves the stability and performance of diffusion models in super-resolution, both quantitatively and qualitatively. Furthermore, PNFS can be flexibly integrated into various diffusion models to enhance their stability. Luoqian Jiang, Bingna Xu, Haolin Pan, Jiezhang Cao, Wenbo Li 0002, Jian Chen 0011

POSTA: A Go-to Framework for Customized Artistic Poster GenerationabstractPoster design is a critical medium for visual communication. Prior work has explored automatic poster design using deep learning techniques, but these approaches lack text accuracy, user customization, and aesthetic appeal, limiting their applicability in artistic domains such as movies and exhibitions, where both clear content delivery and visual impact are essential. To address these limitations, we present POSTA: a modular framework powered by diffusion models and multimodal large language models (MLLMs) for customized artistic poster generation. The framework consists of three modules. Background Diffusion creates a themed background based on user input. Design MLLM then generates layout and typography elements that align with and complement the background style. Finally, to enhance the poster’s aesthetic appeal, ArtText Diffusion applies additional stylization to key text elements. The final result is a visually cohesive and appealing poster, with a fully modular process that allows for complete customization. To train our models, we develop the PosterArt dataset, comprising high-quality artistic posters annotated with layout, typography, and pixel-level stylized text segmentation. Our comprehensive experimental analysis demonstrates POSTA’s exceptional controllability and design diversity, outperforming existing models in both text accuracy and aesthetic quality. | 2025 | QMambaBSR: Burst Image Super-Resolution with Query State Space ModelabstractBurst super-resolution (BurstSR) aims to reconstruct high-resolution images by fusing subpixel details from multiple low-resolution burst frames. The primary challenge lies in effectively extracting useful information while mitigating the impact of high-frequency noise. Most existing methods rely on frame-by-frame fusion, which often struggles to distinguish informative subpixels from noise, leading to suboptimal performance. To address these limitations, we introduce a novel Query Mamba Burst Super-Resolution (QMambaBSR) network. Specifically, we observe that sub-pixels have consistent spatial distribution while noise appears randomly. Considering the entire burst sequence during fusion allows for more reliable extraction of consistent subpixels and better suppression of noise outliers. Based on this, a Query State Space Model (QSSM) is proposed for both inter-frame querying and intra-frame scanning, enabling a more efficient fusion of useful subpixels. Additionally, to overcome the limitations of static upsampling methods that often result in over-smoothing, we propose an Adaptive Upsampling (AdaUp) module that dynamically adjusts the upsampling kernel to suit the characteristics of different burst scenes, achieving superior detail reconstruction. Extensive experiments on four benchmark datasets—spanning both synthetic and real-world images—demonstrate that QMambaBSR outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods. | 2025 | MambaIRv2: Attentive State Space RestorationabstractThe Mamba-based image restoration backbones have recently demonstrated significant potential in balancing global reception and computational efficiency. However, the inherent causal modeling limitation of Mamba, where each token depends solely on its predecessors in the scanned sequence, restricts the full utilization of pixels across the image and thus presents new challenges in image restoration. In this work, we propose MambaIRv2, which equips Mamba with the non-causal modeling ability similar to ViTs to reach the attentive state space restoration model. Specifically, the proposed attentive state-space equation allows to attend beyond the scanned sequence and facilitate image unfolding with just one single scan. Moreover, we further introduce a semantic-guided neighboring mechanism to encourage interaction between distant but similar pixels. Extensive experiments show our MambaIRv2 outperforms SRFormer by even 0.35dB PSNR for lightweight SR even with 9.3% less parameters and suppresses HAT on classic SR by up to 0.29dB. | 2025 | MC^2: Multi-concept Guidance for Customized Multi-concept GenerationabstractCustomized text-to-image generation, which synthesizes images based on user-specified concepts, has made significant progress in handling individual concepts. However, when extended to multiple concepts, existing methods often struggle with properly integrating different models and avoiding the unintended blending of characteristics from distinct concepts. In this paper, we propose MC2, a novel approach for multi-concept customization that enhances flexibility and fidelity through inference-time optimization. MC2enables the integration of multiple single-concept models with heterogeneous architectures. By adaptively refining attention weights between visual and textual tokens, our method ensures that image regions accurately correspond to their associated concepts while minimizing interference between concepts. Extensive experiments demonstrate that MC2outperforms training-based methods in terms of prompt-reference alignment. Furthermore, MC2can be seamlessly applied to text-to-image generation, providing robust compositional capabilities. To facilitate the evaluation of multi-concept customization, we also introduce a new benchmark, MC++. The code is available at https://github.com/jiangJiaxiu/MC-2. | 2025 | JarvisIR: Elevating Autonomous Driving Perception with Intelligent Image RestorationabstractVision-centric perception systems struggle with unpredictable and coupled weather degradations in the wild. Current solutions are often limited, as they either depend on specific degradation priors or suffer from significant domain gaps. To enable robust and autonomous operation in real-world conditions, we propose JarvisIR, a VLM-powered agent that leverages the VLM as a controller to manage multiple expert restoration models. To further enhance system robustness, reduce hallucinations, and improve generalizability in real-world adverse weather, JarvisIR employs a novel two-stage framework consisting of supervised fine-tuning and human feedback alignment. Specifically, to address the lack of paired data in real-world scenarios, the human feedback alignment enables the VLM to be fine-tuned effectively on large-scale real-world data in an unsupervised manner. To support the training and evaluation of JarvisIR, we introduce CleanBench, a comprehensive dataset consisting of high-quality and large-scale instruction-responses pairs, including 150K synthetic entries and 80K real entries. Extensive experiments demonstrate that JarvisIR exhibits superior decision-making and restoration capabilities. Compared with existing methods, it achieves a 50% improvement in the average of all perception metrics on CleanBench-Real. | 2025 | PassionSR: Post-Training Quantization with Adaptive Scale in One-Step Diffusion based Image Super-ResolutionabstractDiffusion-Based image super-resolution (SR) models have shown superior performance at the cost of multiple denoising steps. However, even though the denoising step has been reduced to one, they require high computational costs and storage requirements, making it difficult for deployment on hardware devices. To address these issues, we propose a novel post-training quantization approach with adaptive scale in one-step diffusion (OSD) image SR, PassionSR. First, we simplify OSD model to two core components, UNet and Variational Autoencoder (VAE) by removing the CLIPEncoder. Secondly, we propose Learnable Boundary Quantizer (LBQ) and Learnable Equivalent Transformation (LET) to optimize the quantization process and manipulate activation distributions for better quantization. Finally, we design a Distributed Quantization Calibration (DQC) strategy that stabilizes the training of quantized parameters for rapid convergence. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that PassionSR with 8-bit and 6-bit obtains comparable visual results with full-precision model. Moreover, PassionSR achieves significant advantages over recent leading low-bit quantization SR methods. Code will be at https://github.com/libozhu03/PassionSR. | 2025 | TurboVSR: Fantastic Video Upscalers and Where to Find ThemabstractDiffusion-based generative models have demonstrated exceptional promise in the video super-resolution (VSR) task, achieving a substantial advancement in detail generation relative to prior methods. However, these approaches face significant computational efficiency challenges. For instance, current techniques may require tens of minutes to super-resolve a mere 2-second, 1080p video. In this paper, we present TurboVSR, an ultra-efficient diffusion-based video super-resolution model. Our core design comprises three key aspects: (1) We employ an autoencoder with a high compression ratio of 32$\times$32$\times$8 to reduce the number of tokens. (2) Highly compressed latents pose substantial challenges for training. We introduce factorized conditioning to mitigate the learning complexity: we first learn to super-resolve the initial frame; subsequently, we condition the super-resolution of the remaining frames on the high-resolution initial frame and the low-resolution subsequent frames. (3) We convert the pre-trained diffusion model to a shortcut model to enable fewer sampling steps, further accelerating inference. As a result, TurboVSR performs on par with state-of-the-art VSR methods, while being 100+ times faster, taking only 7 seconds to process a 2-second long 1080p video. TurboVSR also supports image resolution by considering image as a one-frame video. Our efficient design makes SR beyond 1080p possible, results on 4K (3648$\times$2048) image SR show surprising fine details. Zhongdao Wang, Guodongfang Zhao, Bailan Feng, Wenbo Li 0002

Towards Realistic Data Generation for Real-World Super-ResolutionabstractExisting image super-resolution (SR) techniques often fail to generalize effectively in complex real-world settings due to the significant divergence between training data and practical scenarios. To address this challenge, previous efforts have either manually simulated intricate physical-based degradations or utilized learning-based techniques, yet these approaches remain inadequate for producing large-scale, realistic, and diverse data simultaneously. In this paper, we introduce a novel Realistic Decoupled Data Generator (RealDGen), an unsupervised learning data generation framework designed for real-world super-resolution. We meticulously develop content and degradation extraction strategies, which are integrated into a novel content-degradation decoupled diffusion model to create realistic low-resolution images from unpaired real LR and HR images. Extensive experiments demonstrate that RealDGen excels in generating large-scale, high-quality paired data that mirrors real-world degradations, significantly advancing the performance of popular SR models on various real-world benchmarks. | 2025 | One Diffusion Step to Real-World Super-Resolution via Flow Trajectory DistillationabstractDiffusion models (DMs) have significantly advanced the development of real-world image super-resolution (Real-ISR), but the computational cost of multi-step diffusion models limits their application. One-step diffusion models generate high-quality images in a one sampling step, greatly reducing computational overhead and inference latency. However, most existing one-step diffusion methods are constrained by the performance of the teacher model, where poor teacher performance results in image artifacts. To address this limitation, we propose FluxSR, a novel one-step diffusion Real-ISR technique based on flow matching models. We use the state-of-the-art diffusion model FLUX.1-dev as both the teacher model and the base model. First, we introduce Flow Trajectory Distillation (FTD) to distill a multi-step flow matching model into a one-step Real-ISR. Second, to improve image realism and address high-frequency artifact issues in generated images, we propose TV-LPIPS as a perceptual loss and introduce Attention Diversification Loss (ADL) as a regularization term to reduce token similarity in transformer, thereby eliminating high-frequency artifacts. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms existing one-step diffusion-based Real-ISR methods. | 2025 | Directing Mamba to Complex Textures: An Efficient Texture-Aware State Space Model for Image RestorationabstractImage restoration aims to recover details and enhance contrast in degraded images. With the growing demand for high-quality imaging (e.g., 4K and 8K), achieving a balance between restoration quality and computational efficiency has become increasingly critical. Existing methods, primarily based on CNNs, Transformers, or their hybrid approaches, apply uniform deep representation extraction across the image. However, these methods often struggle to effectively model long-range dependencies and largely overlook the spatial characteristics of image degradation (regions with richer textures tend to suffer more severe damage), making it hard to achieve the best trade-off between restoration quality and efficiency. To address these issues, we propose a novel texture-aware image restoration method, TAMambaIR, which simultaneously perceives image textures and achieves a trade-off between performance and efficiency. Specifically, we introduce a novel Texture-Aware State Space Model, which enhances texture awareness and improves efficiency by modulating the transition matrix of the state-space equation and focusing on regions with complex textures. Additionally, we design a Multi-Directional Perception Block to improve multi-directional receptive fields while maintaining low computational overhead. Extensive experiments on benchmarks for image super-resolution, deraining, and low-light image enhancement demonstrate that TAMambaIR achieves state-of-the-art performance with significantly improved efficiency, establishing it as a robust and efficient framework for image restoration. | 2025 | PMQ-VE: Progressive Multi-Frame Quantization for Video EnhancementabstractMulti-frame video enhancement tasks aim to improve the spatial and temporal resolution and quality of video sequences by leveraging temporal information from multiple frames, which are widely used in streaming video processing, surveillance, and generation. Although numerous Transformer-based enhancement methods have achieved impressive performance, their computational and memory demands hinder deployment on edge devices. Quantization offers a practical solution by reducing the bit-width of weights and activations to improve efficiency. However, directly applying existing quantization methods to video enhancement tasks often leads to significant performance degradation and loss of fine details. This stems from two limitations: (a) inability to allocate varying representational capacity across frames, which results in suboptimal dynamic range adaptation; (b) over-reliance on full-precision teachers, which limits the learning of low-bit student models. To tackle these challenges, we propose a novel quantization method for video enhancement: Progressive Multi-Frame Quantization for Video Enhancement (PMQ-VE). This framework features a coarse-to-fine two-stage process: Backtracking-based Multi-Frame Quantization (BMFQ) and Progressive Multi-Teacher Distillation (PMTD). BMFQ utilizes a percentile-based initialization and iterative search with pruning and backtracking for robust clipping bounds. PMTD employs a progressive distillation strategy with both full-precision and multiple high-bit (INT) teachers to enhance low-bit models' capacity and quality. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms existing approaches, achieving state-of-the-art performance across multiple tasks and benchmarks. | 2025 | JarvisArt: Liberating Human Artistic Creativity via an Intelligent Photo Retouching AgentabstractPhoto retouching has become integral to contemporary visual storytelling, enabling users to capture aesthetics and express creativity. While professional tools such as Adobe Lightroom offer powerful capabilities, they demand substantial expertise and manual effort. In contrast, existing AI-based solutions provide automation but often suffer from limited adjustability and poor generalization, failing to meet diverse and personalized editing needs. To bridge this gap, we introduce JarvisArt, a multi-modal large language model (MLLM)-driven agent that understands user intent, mimics the reasoning process of professional artists, and intelligently coordinates over 200 retouching tools within Lightroom. JarvisArt undergoes a two-stage training process: an initial Chain-of-Thought supervised fine-tuning to establish basic reasoning and tool-use skills, followed by Group Relative Policy Optimization for Retouching (GRPO-R) to further enhance its decision-making and tool proficiency. We also propose the Agent-to-Lightroom Protocol to facilitate seamless integration with Lightroom. To evaluate performance, we develop MMArt-Bench, a novel benchmark constructed from real-world user edits. JarvisArt demonstrates user-friendly interaction, superior generalization, and fine-grained control over both global and local adjustments, paving a new avenue for intelligent photo retouching. | 2025 | CamEdit: Continuous Camera Parameter Control for Photorealistic Image EditingabstractRecent advances in diffusion models have substantially improved text-driven image editing. However, existing frameworks based on discrete textual tokens struggle to support continuous control over camera parameters and smooth transitions in visual effects. These limitations hinder their applications to realistic, camera-aware, and fine-grained editing tasks. In this paper, we present CamEdit, a diffusion-based framework for photorealistic image editing that enables continuous and semantically meaningful manipulation of common camera parameters such as aperture and shutter speed. CamEdit incorporates a continuous parameter prompting mechanism and a parameter-aware modulation module that guides the model in smoothly adjusting focal plane, aperture, and shutter speed, reflecting the effects of varying camera settings within the diffusion process. To support supervised learning in this setting, we introduce CamEdit50K, a dataset specifically designed for photorealistic image editing with continuous camera parameter settings. It contains over 50k image pairs combining real and synthetic data with dense camera parameter variations across diverse scenes. Extensive experiments demonstrate that CamEdit enables flexible, consistent, and high-fidelity image editing, achieving state-of-the-art performance in camera-aware visual manipulation and fine-grained photographic control. | 2025 | PocketSR: The Super-Resolution Expert in Your Pocket MobilesabstractReal-world image super-resolution (RealSR) aims to enhance the visual quality of in-the-wild images, such as those captured by mobile phones. While existing methods leveraging large generative models demonstrate impressive results, the high computational cost and latency make them impractical for edge deployment. In this paper, we introduce PocketSR, an ultra-lightweight, single-step model that brings generative modeling capabilities to RealSR while maintaining high fidelity. To achieve this, we design LiteED, a highly efficient alternative to the original computationally intensive VAE in SD, reducing parameters by 97.5\% while preserving high-quality encoding and decoding. Additionally, we propose online annealing pruning for the U-Net, which progressively shifts generative priors from heavy modules to lightweight counterparts, ensuring effective knowledge transfer and further optimizing efficiency. To mitigate the loss of prior knowledge during pruning, we incorporate a multi-layer feature distillation loss. Through an in-depth analysis of each design component, we provide valuable insights for future research. PocketSR, with a model size of 146M parameters, processes 4K images in just 0.8 seconds, achieving a remarkable speedup over previous methods. Notably, it delivers performance on par with state-of-the-art single-step and even multi-step RealSR models, making it a highly practical solution for edge-device applications. | 2024 | Low-Res Leads the Way: Improving Generalization for Super-Resolution by Self-Supervised LearningabstractFor image super-resolution (SR), bridging the gap between the performance on synthetic datasets and real-world degradation scenarios remains a challenge. This work introduces a novel “Low-Res Leads the Way” (LWay) training framework, merging Supervised Pre-training with Self-supervised Learning to enhance the adaptability of SR models to real-world images. Our approach utilizes a low-resolution (LR) reconstruction network to extract degradation embeddings from LR images, merging them with super-resolved outputs for LR reconstruction. Leveraging unseen LR images for self-supervised learning guides the model to adapt its modeling space to the target domain, facili-tating fine-tuning of SR models without requiring paired high-resolution (HR) images. The integration of Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT)further refines the focus on high-frequency details. Extensive evaluations show that our method significantly improves the generalization and de-tail restoration capabilities of SR models on unseen real-world datasets, outperforming existing methods. Our training regime is universally compatible, requiring no network architecture modifications, making it a practical solution for real-world SR applications. | 2024 | Video-P2P: Video Editing with Cross-Attention ControlabstractVideo-P2P is the first framework for real-world video editing with cross-attention control. While attention control has proven effective for image editing with pre-trained image generation models, there are currently no large-scale video generation models publicly available. Video-P2P addresses this limitation by adapting an image generation diffusion model to complete various video editing tasks. Specifically, we propose to first tune a Text-to-Set (T2S) model to complete an approximate inversion and then optimize a shared unconditional embedding to achieve accurate video inversion with a small memory cost. We further prove that it is crucial for consistent video editing. For attention control, we introduce a novel decoupled-guidance strategy, which uses different guidance strategies for the source and target prompts. The optimized unconditional embedding for the source prompt improves reconstruction ability, while an initialized unconditional embedding for the target prompt enhances editability. Incorporating the attention maps of these two branches enables detailed editing. These technical designs enable various text-driven editing applications, including word swap, prompt refinement, and attention re-weighting. Video-P2P works well on real-world videos for generating new characters while optimally preserving their original poses and scenes. It significantly outperforms previous approaches. | 2024 | CoSeR: Bridging Image and Language for Cognitive Super-ResolutionabstractExisting super-resolution (SR) models primarily focus on restoring local texture details, often neglecting the global semantic information within the scene. This oversight can lead to the omission of crucial semantic details or the intro-duction of inaccurate textures during the recovery process. In our work, we introduce the Cognitive Super-Resolution (CoSeR) framework, empowering SR models with the ca-pacity to comprehend low-resolution images. We achieve this by marrying image appearance and language under-standing to generate a cognitive embedding, which not only activates prior information from large text-to-image diffusion models but also facilitates the generation of high-quality reference images to optimize the SR process. | 2024 | Image Inpainting via Iteratively Decoupled Probabilistic ModelingabstractGenerative adversarial networks (GANs) have made great success in image inpainting yet still have difficulties tackling large missing regions. | 2024 | RestoreAgent: Autonomous Image Restoration Agent via Multimodal Large Language ModelsabstractNatural images captured by mobile devices often suffer from multiple types of degradation, such as noise, blur, and low light. Traditional image restoration methods require manual selection of specific tasks, algorithms, and execution sequences, which is time-consuming and may yield suboptimal results. All-in-one models, though capable of handling multiple tasks, typically support only a limited range and often produce overly smooth, low-fidelity outcomes due to their broad data distribution fitting. To address these challenges, we first define a new pipeline for restoring images with multiple degradations, and then introduce RestoreAgent, an intelligent image restoration system leveraging multimodal large language models. RestoreAgent autonomously assesses the type and extent of degradation in input images and performs restoration through (1) determining the appropriate restoration tasks, (2) optimizing the task sequence, (3) selecting the most suitable models, and (4) executing the restoration. Experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of RestoreAgent in handling complex degradation, surpassing human experts. | 2024 | UltraPixel: Advancing Ultra High-Resolution Image Synthesis to New PeaksabstractUltra-high-resolution image generation poses great challenges, such as increased semantic planning complexity and detail synthesis difficulties, alongside substantial training resource demands. We present UltraPixel, a novel architecture utilizing cascade diffusion models to generate high-quality images at multiple resolutions (\textit{e.g.}, 1K, 2K, and 4K) within a single model, while maintaining computational efficiency. UltraPixel leverages semantics-rich representations of lower-resolution images in a later denoising stage to guide the whole generation of highly detailed high-resolution images, significantly reducing complexity. | 2024 | From NeRFLiX to NeRFLiX++: A General NeRF-Agnostic Restorer ParadigmabstractNeural radiance fields (NeRF) have shown great success in novel view synthesis. However, recovering high-quality details from real-world scenes is still challenging for the existing NeRF-based approaches, due to the potential imperfect calibration information and scene representation inaccuracy. Even with high-quality training frames, the synthetic novel views produced by NeRF models still suffer from notable rendering artifacts, such as noise and blur. To address this, we propose NeRFLiX, a general NeRF-agnostic restorer paradigm that learns a degradation-driven inter-viewpoint mixer. Specially, we design a NeRF-style degradation modeling approach and construct large-scale training data, enabling the possibility of effectively removing NeRF-native rendering artifacts for deep neural networks. Moreover, beyond the degradation removal, we propose an inter-viewpoint aggregation framework that fuses highly related high-quality training images, pushing the performance of cutting-edge NeRF models to entirely new levels and producing highly photo-realistic synthetic views. Based on this paradigm, we further present NeRFLiX++ with a stronger two-stage NeRF degradation simulator and a faster inter-viewpoint mixer, achieving superior performance with significantly improved computational efficiency. Notably, NeRFLiX++ is capable of restoring photo-realistic ultra-high-resolution outputs from noisy low-resolution NeRF-rendered views. | 2023 | Exploring Motion Ambiguity and Alignment for High-Quality Video Frame InterpolationabstractFor video frame interpolation (VFI), existing deep-learning-based approaches strongly rely on the ground-truth (GT) intermediate frames, which sometimes ignore the non-unique nature of motion judging from the given adjacent frames. As a result, these methods tend to produce averaged solutions that are not clear enough. To alleviate this issue, we propose to relax the requirement of reconstructing an intermediate frame as close to the GT as possible. Towards this end, we develop a texture consistency loss (TCL) upon the assumption that the interpolated content should maintain similar structures with their counterparts in the given frames. Predictions satisfying this constraint are encouraged, though they may differ from the predefined GT. Without the bells and whistles, our plug-and-play TCL is capable of improving the performance of existing VFI frameworks consistently. On the other hand, previous methods usually adopt the cost volume or correlation map to achieve more accurate image or feature warping. However, the O (N2) (N refers to the pixel count) computational complexity makes it infeasible for high-resolution cases. In this work, we design a simple, efficient O (N) yet powerful guided cross-scale pyramid alignment (GCSPA) module, where multi-scale information is highly exploited. Extensive experiments justify the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed strategy. Kun Zhou 0001, Wenbo Li 0002, Xiaoguang Han 0001, Jiangbo Lu

Texture Generation on 3D Meshes with Point-UV DiffusionabstractIn this work, we focus on synthesizing high-quality textures on 3D meshes. We present Point-UV diffusion, a coarse-to-fine pipeline that marries the denoising diffusion model with UV mapping to generate 3D consistent and high-quality texture images in UV space. We start with introducing a point diffusion model to synthesize low-frequency texture components with our tailored style guidance to tackle the biased color distribution. The derived coarse texture offers global consistency and serves as a condition for the subsequent UV diffusion stage, aiding in regularizing the model to generate a 3D consistent UV texture image. Then, a UV diffusion model with hybrid conditions is developed to enhance the texture fidelity in the 2D UV space. Our method can process meshes of any genus, generating diversified, geometry-compatible, and high-fidelity textures. Code is available at https://cvmi-lab.github.io/Point-UV-Diffusion. | 2023 | On Efficient Transformer-Based Image Pre-training for Low-Level VisionabstractPre-training has marked numerous state of the arts in high-level computer vision, while few attempts have ever been made to investigate how pre-training acts in image processing systems. In this paper, we tailor transformer-based pre-training regimes that boost various low-level tasks. To comprehensively diagnose the influence of pre-training, we design a whole set of principled evaluation tools that uncover its effects on internal representations. The observations demonstrate that pre-training plays strikingly different roles in low-level tasks. For example, pre-training introduces more local information to intermediate layers in super-resolution (SR), yielding significant performance gains, while pre-training hardly affects internal feature representations in denoising, resulting in limited gains. Further, we explore different methods of pre-training, revealing that multi-related-task pre-training is more effective and data-efficient than other alternatives. Finally, we extend our study to varying data scales and model sizes, as well as comparisons between transformers and CNNs. Based on the study, we successfully develop state-of-the-art models for multiple low-level tasks. Wenbo Li 0002, Xin Lu 0006, Shengju Qian, Jiangbo Lu

What Makes for Good Tokenizers in Vision Transformer?abstractThe architecture of transformers, which recently witness booming applications in vision tasks, has pivoted against the widespread convolutional paradigm. Relying on the tokenization process that splits inputs into multiple tokens, transformers are capable of extracting their pairwise relationships using self-attention. While being the stemming building block of transformers, what makes for a good tokenizer has not been well understood in computer vision. In this work, we investigate this uncharted problem from an information trade-off perspective. In addition to unifying and understanding existing structural modifications, our derivation leads to better design strategies for vision tokenizers. The proposed Modulation across Tokens (MoTo) incorporates inter-token modeling capability through normalization. Furthermore, a regularization objective TokenProp is embraced in the standard training regime. Through extensive experiments on various transformer architectures, we observe both improved performance and intriguing properties of these two plug-and-play designs with negligible computational overhead. These observations further indicate the importance of the commonly-omitted designs of tokenizers in vision transformer. Shengju Qian, Yi Zhu 0001, Wenbo Li 0002, Mu Li 0003, Jiaya Jia

| 2023 | A High-Performance Accelerator for Super-Resolution Processing on Embedded GPUabstractOver the past few years, super-resolution (SR) processing has achieved astonishing progress along with the development of deep learning. Nevertheless, the rigorous requirement for real-time inference, especially for video tasks, leaves a harsh challenge for both the model architecture design and the hardware-level implementation. In this article, we propose a hardware-aware acceleration on embedded GPU devices as a full-stack SR deployment framework. The most critical stage with dictionary learning applied in SR flow was analyzed in details and optimized with a tailored dictionary slimming strategy. Moreover, we also delve into the programming architecture of hardware while analyzing the model structure to optimize the computation kernels to reduce inference latency and maximize the throughput given restricted computing power. In addition, we further accelerate the model with 8-bit integer inference by quantizing the weights in the compressed model. An adaptive 8-bit quantization flow for SR task enables the quantized model to achieve a comparable result with the full-precision baselines. With the help of our approaches, the computation and communication bottlenecks in the deep dictionary learning-based SR models can be overcome effectively. The experiments on both edge embedded device NVIDIA NX and 2080Ti prove that our framework exceeds the performance of state-of-the-art NVIDIA TensorRT significantly and can achieve real-time performance. | 2022 | Best-Buddy GANs for Highly Detailed Image Super-resolutionabstractWe consider the single image super-resolution (SISR) problem, where a high-resolution (HR) image is generated based on a low-resolution (LR) input. Recently, generative adversarial networks (GANs) become popular to hallucinate details. Most methods along this line rely on a predefined single-LR-single-HR mapping, which is not flexible enough for the ill-posed SISR task. Also, GAN-generated fake details may often undermine the realism of the whole image. We address these issues by proposing best-buddy GANs (Beby-GAN) for rich-detail SISR. Relaxing the rigid one-to-one constraint, we allow the estimated patches to dynamically seek trustworthy surrogates of supervision during training, which is beneficial to producing more reasonable details. Besides, we propose a region-aware adversarial learning strategy that directs our model to focus on generating details for textured areas adaptively. Extensive experiments justify the effectiveness of our method. An ultra-high-resolution 4K dataset is also constructed to facilitate future super-resolution research. | 2022 | Video Demoiréing with Relation-Based Temporal ConsistencyabstractMoiré patterns, appearing as color distortions, severely degrade image and video qualities when filming a screen with digital cameras. Considering the increasing demands for capturing videos, we study how to remove such undesirable moiré patterns in videos, namely video demoiréing. To this end, we introduce the first hand-held video demoiréing dataset with a dedicated data collection pipeline to ensure spatial and temporal alignments of captured data. Further, a baseline video demoiréing model with implicit feature space alignment and selective feature aggregation is developed to leverage complementary information from nearby frames to improve frame-level video demoiréing. More importantly, we propose a relation-based temporal consistency loss to encourage the model to learn temporal consistency priors directly from ground-truth reference videos, which facilitates producing temporally consistent predictions and effectively maintains frame-level qualities. Extensive experiments manifest the superiority of our model. Code is available at ht tps:// daipengwa. github.io/VDmoire_ProjectPage/. | 2022 | MAT: Mask-Aware Transformer for Large Hole Image InpaintingabstractRecent studies have shown the importance of modeling long-range interactions in the inpainting problem. To achieve this goal, existing approaches exploit either standalone attention techniques or transformers, but usually under a low resolution in consideration of computational cost. In this paper, we present a novel transformer-based model for large hole inpainting, which unifies the merits of transformers and convolutions to efficiently process high-resolution images. We carefully design each component of our framework to guarantee the high fidelity and diversity of recovered images. Specifically, we customize an inpainting-oriented transformer block, where the attention module aggregates non-local information only from partial valid tokens, indicated by a dynamic mask. Extensive experiments demonstrate the state-of-the-art performance of the new model on multiple benchmark datasets. Code is released at https://github.com/fenglinglwb/MAT. | 2022 | Revisiting Temporal Alignment for Video RestorationabstractLong-range temporal alignment is critical yet challenging for video restoration tasks. Recently, some works attempt to divide the long-range alignment into several sub-alignments and handle them progressively. Although this operation is helpful in modeling distant correspondences, error accumulation is inevitable due to the propagation mechanism. In this work, we present a novel, generic iterative alignment module which employs a gradual refinement scheme for sub-alignments, yielding more accurate motion compensation. To further enhance the alignment accuracy and temporal consistency, we develop a non-parametric re-weighting method, where the importance of each neighboring frame is adaptively evaluated in a spatial-wise way for aggregation. By virtue of the proposed strategies, our model achieves state-of-the-art performance on multiple benchmarks across a range of video restoration tasks including video super-resolution, denoising and deblurring. | 2021 | MASA-SR: Matching Acceleration and Spatial Adaptation for Reference-Based Image Super-ResolutionabstractReference-based image super-resolution (RefSR) has shown promising success in recovering high-frequency details by utilizing an external reference image (Ref). In this task, texture details are transferred from the Ref image to the low-resolution (LR) image according to their point- or patch-wise correspondence. Therefore, high-quality correspondence matching is critical. It is also desired to be computationally efficient. Besides, existing RefSR methods tend to ignore the potential large disparity in distributions between the LR and Ref images, which hurts the effectiveness of the information utilization. In this paper, we propose the MASA network for RefSR, where two novel modules are designed to address these problems. The proposed Match & Extraction Module significantly reduces the computational cost by a coarse-to-fine correspondence matching scheme. The Spatial Adaptation Module learns the difference of distribution between the LR and Ref images, and remaps the distribution of Ref features to that of LR features in a spatially adaptive way. This scheme makes the network robust to handle different reference images. Extensive quantitative and qualitative experiments validate the effectiveness of our proposed model. | 2020 | LAPAR: Linearly-Assembled Pixel-Adaptive Regression Network for Single Image Super-resolution and BeyondabstractSingle image super-resolution (SISR) deals with a fundamental problem of upsampling a low-resolution (LR) image to its high-resolution (HR) version. Last few years have witnessed impressive progress propelled by deep learning methods. However, one critical challenge faced by existing methods is to strike a sweet spot of deep model complexity and resulting SISR quality. This paper addresses this pain point by proposing a linearly-assembled pixel-adaptive regression network (LAPAR), which casts the direct LR to HR mapping learning into a linear coefficient regression task over a dictionary of multiple predefined filter bases. Such a parametric representation renders our model highly lightweight and easy to optimize while achieving state-of-the-art results on SISR benchmarks. Moreover, based on the same idea, LAPAR is extended to tackle other restoration tasks, e.g., image denoising and JPEG image deblocking, and again, yields strong performance.
