| 2026 | EDWAC: A Deadlock-Free Scheme for Compiling Whole Programs Onto Dynamically Reconfigurable Dataflow ArchitecturesabstractCoarse-grained Reconfigurable Arrays (CGRAs) have become prevailing to accelerate regular kernels coupled with a host processor. As the end-to-end applications are increasingly complex, it is necessary to consider mapping whole programs onto a monolithic CGRA, to avoid the bottleneck of host communication implied by Amdahl’s law.State-of-the-art studies have developed compiling methods that spatially pipeline the whole program over hardware with many cores. However, these methods mainly focus on static reconfigurable dataflow architectures and fail to exploit the dynamic reconfiguration potential of dataflow architectures, resulting in suboptimal performance and underutilization of hardware resources. Nevertheless, it is nontrivial to generate a performant mapping on dynamic reconfigurable dataflow architectures since instruction-level deadlocks are introduced. To address this challenge, this paper proposes EDWAC, a whole-program compiler that generates high-quality configurations for dynamic reconfigurable dataflow architectures. EDWAC resolves the deadlock problem by a two-stage deadlock-prevention mechanism, which comprises a shared-resource-constrained Place and Route (PnR) stage, and a Finite State Machine(FSM)-based resource reallocation stage. Together with a gated control flow Intermediate Representation (IR) design and throughput-oriented optimization methods, EDWAC achieves exceptional resource utilization and PnR feasibility. | 2023 | Orinoco: Ordered Issue and Unordered Commit with Non-Collapsible QueuesabstractModern out-of-order processors call for more aggressive scheduling techniques such as priority scheduling and out-of-order commit to make use of increasing core resources. Since these approaches prioritize the issue or commit of certain instructions, they face the conundrum of providing the capacity efficiency of scheduling structures while preserving the ideal ordering of instructions. Traditional collapsible queues are too expensive for today's processors, while state-of-the-art queue designs compromise with the pseudo-ordering of instructions, leading to performance degradation as well as other limitations. | 2023 | MapZero: Mapping for Coarse-grained Reconfigurable Architectures with Reinforcement Learning and Monte-Carlo Tree SearchabstractCoarse-grained reconfigurable architecture (CGRA) has become a promising candidate for data-intensive computing due to its flexibility and high energy efficiency. CGRA compilers map data flow graphs (DFGs) extracted from applications onto CGRAs, playing a fundamental role in fully exploiting hardware resources for acceleration. Yet the existing compilers are time-demanding and cannot guarantee optimal results due to the traversal search of enormous search spaces brought about by the spatio-temporal flexibility of CGRA structures and the complexity of DFGs. Inspired by the amazing progress in reinforcement learning (RL) and Monte-Carlo tree search (MCTS) for real-world problems, we consider constructing a compiler that can learn from past experiences and comprehensively understand the target DFG and CGRA. | 2023 | Feature Refinement with Masked Cascaded Network for Temporal Action LocalizationabstractDespite the great progress in temporal action localization (TAL), most existing methods directly use video encoders trained on trimmed Kinetics400 dataset to obtain clip-level visual features, ignoring the cross-dataset bias between Kinetics400 and TAL benchmarks. Such a dataset bias leads to poor visual representation, potentially hindering performance in both temporal detection and action recognition for TAL. In this paper, we propose a novel TAL method, termed feature refinement with masked cascaded network (FR-MCN), to tackle the above problem. Specifically, FR-MCN presents a new feature refinement strategy by developing clip-level feature classification task for both action and background clips to improve temporal sensitivity and enhance action semantics of visual features. Moreover, FR-MCN employs a masked cascaded paradigm for refinement to learn semantic disparities between action and background clips near boundary, enabling the starting and ending instants to be detected accurately for TAL. Extensive experimental results on THUMOS14 and ActivityNetv1.3 demonstrate that our FR-MCN, can significantly improve the action localization performance. | 2018 | A general graph based pessimism reduction framework for design optimization of timing closureabstractIn this paper, we develop a general pessimism reduction framework for design optimization of timing closure. Although the modified graph based timing analysis (mGBA) slack model can be readily formulated into a quadratic programming problem with constraints, the realistic difficulty is the size of the problem. A critical path selection scheme, a uniform sampling method with the sparse characteristics of the optimal solution, and a stochastic conjugate gradient method are proposed to accelerate the optimization solver. This modified GBA is embedded into design optimization of timing closure. Experimental results show that the proposed solver can achieve 13.82x speedup than gradient descent method with similar accuracy. With mGBA, the optimization of timing closure can achieve a better performance on area, leakage power, buffer counts. | 2011 | Efficient Approximation Algorithms for Chemical Mechanical Polishing Dummy FillabstractTo reduce chip-scale topography variation in chemical mechanical polishing process, dummy fill is widely used to improve the layout density uniformity. Previous researches formulated the density-driven dummy fill problem as a standard linear program (LP). However, solving the huge linear program formed by real-life designs is very expensive and has become the hurdle in deploying the technology. Even though there exist efficient heuristics, their performance cannot be guaranteed. Furthermore, dummy fill can also change the interconnect coupling capacitance which might lead to a significant influence on circuit delay, crosstalk, and power consumption. In this paper, we develop a dummy fill algorithm that can be applied to solve both the traditional density-driven problem and the problem considering fill-induced coupling capacitance impact. The proposed algorithm is both efficient and with provably good performance, which is based on a fully polynomial time approximation scheme by Fleischer for covering LP problems. Moreover, based on the approximation algorithm, we also propose a new greedy iterative algorithm to achieve high quality solutions more efficiently than previous Monte Carlo based heuristic methods. Final experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our algorithms. Chunyang Feng, Hai Zhou 0001, Changhao Yan, Jun Tao 0001, Xuan Zeng 0001 |
