2025 Alibaba Stellar: A New Generation RDMA Network for Cloud AI
abstract
The rapid adoption of Large Language Models (LLMs) in cloud environments has intensified the demand for high-performance AI training and inference, where Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) plays a critical role. However, existing RDMA virtualization solutions, such as Single-Root Input/Output Virtualization (SR-IOV), face significant limitations in scalability, performance, and stability. These issues include lengthy container initialization times, hardware resource constraints, and inefficient traffic steering. To address these challenges, we propose Stellar, a new generation RDMA network for cloud AI. Stellar introduces three key innovations: Para-Virtualized Direct Memory Access (PVDMA) for on-demand memory pinning, extended Memory Translation Table (eMTT) for optimized GPU Direct RDMA (GDR) performance, and RDMA Packet Spray for efficient multi-path utilization. Deployed in our large-scale AI clusters, Stellar spins up virtual devices in seconds, reduces container initialization time by 15 times, and improves LLM training speed by up to 14%. Our evaluations demonstrate that Stellar significantly outperforms existing solutions, offering a scalable, stable, and high-performance RDMA network for cloud AI.

2019 A Data-Driven Approach to Client-Transparent Access Selection of Dual-Band WiFi
abstract
Dual-band WiFi which supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz has been widely deployed, aiming to expand wireless capacity, and eliminate serious interference in 2.4 GHz. As the proportion of dual-band APs and clients increase enormously, how to select which band to access to achieve considerable user experience is becoming essential in wireless network. Clients' native decisions that tend to prefer 5 GHz will consequently cause serious interference in 5 GHz and leave 2.4 GHz notably idle. Through analyzing a unique dataset in the wild, we quantitatively study the impact of various WiFi factors on the wireless delay. We propose a decision tree approach to intelligent access selection that decides which band to access dynamically according to prior learned schemes. A prototype of the access selection system named LazyAS, which only requires modification at AP side, is realized and deployed in a production WiFi network. Evaluation results demonstrate that LazyAS reduces the 90th percentile of wireless delay in the production WiFi network from 32 ms to 12 ms.

2009 iNextCube: Information Network-Enhanced Text Cube
abstract
Nowadays, most business, administration, and/or scientific databases contain both structured attributes and text attributes. We call a database that consists of both multidimensional structured data and narrative text data as multidimensional text database . Searching, OLAP, and mining such databases pose many research challenges. To enhance the power of data analysis, interesting entities and relationships can be extracted from such databases to derive heterogeneous information networks, which in turn will substantially increase the power and flexibility of data exploration in such databases. Based on our previous studies on TextCube [1], TopicCube [2], and information network analysis, such as RankClus [3] and NetClus [4], we construct iNextCube , an i nformation- N etwork- e nhanced te xt Cube . In this demo, we show the power of iNextCube in the search and analysis of two multidimensional text databases: (i) a DBLP-based CS bibliographic database, and (ii) an online news database.

2009 Patch-based image vectorization with automatic curvilinear feature alignment
abstract
Raster image vectorization is increasingly important since vector-based graphical contents have been adopted in personal computers and on the Internet. In this paper, we introduce an effective vector-based representation and its associated vectorization algorithm for full-color raster images. There are two important characteristics of our representation. First, the image plane is decomposed into nonoverlapping parametric triangular patches with curved boundaries. Such a simplicial layout supports a flexible topology and facilitates adaptive patch distribution. Second, a subset of the curved patch boundaries are dedicated to faithfully representing curvilinear features. They are automatically aligned with the features. Because of this, patches are expected to have moderate internal variations that can be well approximated using smooth functions. We have developed effective techniques for patch boundary optimization and patch color fitting to accurately and compactly approximate raster images with both smooth variations and curvilinear features. A real-time GPU-accelerated parallel algorithm based on recursive patch subdivision has also been developed for rasterizing a vectorized image. Experiments and comparisons indicate our image vectorization algorithm achieves a more accurate and compact vector-based representation than existing ones do.
