| 2026 | Less Is More: Vision Representation Compression for Efficient Video Generation with Large Language ModelsabstractVideo generation using Large Language Models (LLMs) has shown promising potential, effectively leveraging the extensive LLM infrastructure to provide a unified framework for multimodal understanding and content generation. However, these methods face critical challenges, i.e., token redundancy and inefficiencies arising from long sequences, which constrain their performance and efficiency compared to diffusion-based approaches. In this study, we investigate the impact of token redundancy in LLM-based video generation by information-theoretic analysis and propose Vision Representation Compression (VRC), a novel framework designed to achieve more in both performance and efficiency with less video token representations. VRC introduces learnable representation compressor and decompressor to compress video token representations, enabling autoregressive next-sequence prediction in a compact latent space. Our approach reduces redundancy, shortens token sequences, and improves model's ability to capture underlying video structures. Our experiments demonstrate that VRC reduces token sequence lengths by a factor of 4, achieving more than 9~14x acceleration in inference while maintaining performance comparable to state-of-the-art video generation models. VRC not only accelerates the inference but also significantly reduces memory requirements during both model training and inference. | 2023 | Motion Dynamics RRT Algorithm for Optimal TF /TA Routing PlanningabstractThe existing route planning algorithms are directly applied to the remote$\text{TF}/\text{TA}$route planning of large and medium-sized fixed wing aircraft, and cannot simultaneously meet the requirements of efficiency, route consistency, and optimality. To deal with the problem, a motion dynamics RRT*algorithm is proposed. Firstly, the characteristic of ellipses is utilized to effectively reduce the planning space in order to improve search efficiency; Next, in order to reduce the randomness of the RRT algorithm, a motion dynamics model of the aircraft is established and the state transition mode of nodes based on this model is designed; Finally, a cost function was designed to penalize the detour distance, climb altitude, and unsafe flight path. The experimental results on real DEM data show that the proposed algorithm can simultaneously meet the requirements of high efficiency, route consistency, and optimality for long-distance TF/TA route planning of large and medium-sized fixed wing aircraft. | 2022 | An adaptive direction-assisted test for microbiome compositional dataabstractMOTIVATION: Microbial communities have been shown to be associated with many complex diseases, such as cancers and cardiovascular diseases. The identification of differentially abundant taxa is clinically important. It can help understand the pathology of complex diseases, and potentially provide preventive and therapeutic strategies. Appropriate differential analyses for microbiome data are challenging due to its unique data characteristics including compositional constraint, excessive zeros and high dimensionality. Most existing approaches either ignore these data characteristics or only account for the compositional constraint by using log-ratio transformations with zero observations replaced by a pseudocount. However, there is no consensus on how to choose a pseudocount. More importantly, ignoring the characteristic of excessive zeros may result in poorly powered analyses and therefore yield misleading findings. RESULTS: We develop a novel microbiome-based direction-assisted test for the detection of overall difference in microbial relative abundances between two health conditions, which simultaneously incorporates the characteristics of relative abundance data. The proposed test (i) divides the taxa into two clusters by the directions of mean differences of relative abundances and then combines them at cluster level, in light of the compositional characteristic; and (ii) contains a burden type test, which collapses multiple taxa into a single one to account for excessive zeros. Moreover, the proposed test is an adaptive procedure, which can accommodate high-dimensional settings and yield high power against various alternative hypotheses. We perform extensive simulation studies across a wide range of scenarios to evaluate the proposed test and show its substantial power gain over some existing tests. The superiority of the proposed approach is further demonstrated with real datasets from two microbiome studies.
