2014 Challenges with Transition and User Accounting in Next Generation Networks
abstract
Future networks may change the way how network administrators monitor and account their users. History shows that usually a completely new design (clean slate) is used to propose a new network architecture - e.g. Network Control Protocol to TCP/IP, IPv4 to IPv6 or IP to Recursive Inter Network Architecture. The incompatibility between these architectures changes the user accounting process as network administrators have to use different information to identify a user. The paper presents a methodology how it is possible to gather all necessary information needed for smooth transition between two incompatible architectures. The transition from IPv4 and IPv6 is used as a use case, but it should be able to use the same process with any new networking architecture.

2014 IP45: Architecture, Design, and Implementation
abstract
This dissertation outline discusses an experimental network architecture and protocol design. The aim of the work is to prove that a network architecture which follows some key principles can bring interesting build-in features. As a proof of concept, a model of architecture was designed into protocol specification which extends existing protocols. One of the interesting feature is that such protocol can regain End-to-End addressing in the NAT based architecture without laborious transition to a new protocol.

2011 Practical IPv6 monitoring-challenges and techniques
abstract
Network monitoring is an essential task of network management. Information obtained by monitoring devices gives a real picture of the network in production including transmitted data volumes, top hosts, a list of frequently used applications etc. Deep analysis of data collected by monitoring can reveal network attacks or detect misuse of network services. In addition, Data Retention Act requires each ISP to track user's activities. Protocol IPv6 puts new challenges for network administrators in the context of user identification. Unlike IPv4, an IPv6 address no longer uniquely identifies a user or PC. IPv6 address can be randomly generated and keeps changing in time. PCs with IPv6 stack can also communicate via predefined tunnels over IPv4 infrastructure. That tunneled traffic mostly bypasses network security implemented via firewalls. In this paper, we identify major monitoring and security issues of IPv6 connectivity and propose a solution based on SNMP and Netflow data that helps to uniquely identify users. The solution requires an extended set of monitoring data to be collected from network devices. We present a new data structure based on extended Netflow records. Feasibility of the approach is demonstrated on the Brno University of Technology (BUT) campus network.

2007 Safety and Security-driven Design of Networked Embedded Systems
abstract
The paper presents a safety and security-driven approach to embedded system design for an industrial class of Internet-based applications. It discusses an integrated networking framework stemming from the IEEE 1451.1 smart transducer interface standard, which is an object-based networking model supporting client-server and publish-subscribe communication patterns in group messaging, and from the IP multicast communication, ail together mediating safe and secure access to smart sensors through Internet The case study demonstrates how clients can access groups of wireless smart pressure and temperature sensors and valves effectively through Internet using developed system architecture while respecting prescribed requirements for application dependent safety and security.
